Look at this. Now there’s a genuine health crisis, all the nonsense has been pushed aside.

Pregnant women, pregnant mothers.

Good. Now is not the time to be pissing about with gender neutral wankery and confusing people.

OhHolyJesus · 17/03/2020 20:30

It's funny how biology comes into sharp focus during a global health crisis innit?

Ok, not funny, but you know what I mean.

Socrates11 · 17/03/2020 20:52

Reality bites

SisyphusLangClegRocks · 17/03/2020 20:57

Priorities have shifted and like Cheri said, there isn't time to be pissing about with woke shite.

I've already seen certain groups trying to make this about them and how they'll need special 'queer' measures. Boy, are they in for a surprise.

Binterested · 17/03/2020 22:11

Will we come to miss Ben Hunte, do you think?

(PS, no obviously)

Qcng · 17/03/2020 23:11

I'm surprised about how lifted I feel by the term "pregnant women" it's been such a long time since the BBC have used such a term!
Obviously coronovirus is bad and the information in the article should be taken seriously.

T0tallyFuckedUpFamily · 17/03/2020 23:20

Pregnant women/mothers was mentioned no less than 15 times in that article! You mean the BBC are actually admitting that only women can get pregnant? Well flabber my gast!

Aesopfable · 18/03/2020 01:04

When it gets so serious even the BBC realise putting wokery before clear communication would be considered bad taste.

AnyOldSpartabix · 18/03/2020 07:12

I know, I was too. It feels like something has returned to rational normality in the face of all the terrifying changes that are happening right now. Odd how good it felt to read it.

Ben Hunte self-isolating?

WrathofFaeKlopp · 18/03/2020 08:21

This is one for women and GC allies to use the complaints procedure even though the BBC have seemingly got it right.

They need to know that people noticed the change

borntobequiet · 18/03/2020 08:39

I’ve complained enough in the past so was very pleased to be able to leave an appreciative comment via their phone line.

thatwouldbeanecumenicalmatter · 18/03/2020 08:45

Yes, DH and I noticed too.

WrathofFaeKlopp · 18/03/2020 08:53

Yes borntobequiet
It's good to let the BBC know when they get it biologically and morally correct but they can't just do it when it suits.

I will be watching them closely.

AnyOldSpartabix · 18/03/2020 09:14

I dpn’t get the impression this is «when it suits». I don’t think this is necessarily a conscious decision. I’m hoping there will be an unparalleled reassessment of priorities, and the recognition that those in power have been manipulated into prioritising things that have no genuine value and are, in the grand scheme of things, wholly unimportant.

Yep, coronavirus doesn't give a shit what your pronouns are.

CheriLittlebottom · 18/03/2020 09:19

My guess is that the writer went with what seemed right (and IS right) and the editorial team are so bloody busy no-one had time to get their rainbow coloured corrective pen out to change all the mean woman-y words.

Lamahaha · 18/03/2020 10:48

We can only hope they don't cave and apologise once the woke posse attacks. As it will.
This is surely too serious to get into language arguments.

Datun · 18/03/2020 11:03

What, you mean somebody didn't jump down their throats and insist that this would be upsetting and marginalising to a handful of people so they can't say it?

Why can't they be called pregnant people? Could it possibly be because it would actually endanger women and their unborn children? And a whole load more people would be looking at the term pregnant people and thinking what the fuck are you talking about?

It would be interesting now to see those committed to 'pregnant people', answering their critics as to why it was important not to specify sex.

Doobigetta · 18/03/2020 11:08

I’ve noticed that every single reference has been to “pregnant women” rather than “pregnant people”. Presumably they’ve rediscovered the benefits of a clear and straightforward message as opposed to word salad, when it matters.

littlbrowndog · 18/03/2020 13:27

Yeah imagine they squid pregnant people. The whole nation would be like wtaf are they on about

littlbrowndog · 18/03/2020 13:28

Ok if the nation saw squid that would be bad also 🤦‍♀️

JellyfishandShells · 18/03/2020 13:35

I heard ‘pregnant people ‘ used several times on Woman’s Hour yesterday, during a discussion on pregnancy and childbirth during this current crisis :(

pachyderm · 18/03/2020 13:42

www.abortionrightscampaign.ie/2020/03/17/letter-to-rt-hon-brandon-lewis-mp-secretary-of-state-for-northern-ireland/

Not in Ireland. The ACI can't bear to use the word "woman" even now. Fucking idiots.

MarDhea · 19/03/2020 11:04

ACI aren't an official body, though.

The proper HSE page on coronavirus and pregnancy is "pregnant women" all the way 👍
