Apparently she’d wanted to write about the trans issue for ages but had been specifically told not too...she sounds very bruised by it all

but for some God forsaken reason the Labour leadership hopefuls thought they might endear themselves to their lost 'red wall' voters by signing pledges calling Women's Place and LGB Alliance 'trans exclusionary hate groups. I was appalled to see the signatories included Lisa Nandy, who is bright and Rebecca Long Bailey, who isn't

Funny article. Blimey, that trip to Amsterdam sounds utterly horrific....

RoyalCorgi · 12/03/2020 09:21

I'm not surprised she's feeling bruised. It's pretty shitty of her own colleagues to turn on her like that, most of them anonymously.

BovaryX · 12/03/2020 09:24

It's pretty incredible that 344 alleged journalists can denounce a colleague for questioning the claims and tactics of an aggressive lobby. But such is the dire state of the Guardian.

SonicVersusGynaephobia · 12/03/2020 09:27

Poor Suzanne. People have been shit to her.

StillWeRise · 12/03/2020 09:31

maybe not the point but I applaud her view on plinky plonky massage music

GCGayDad · 12/03/2020 09:34

But what does she mean by "I like freaks. I like fluidity."? Genuine question.

She is gonna get lots of flak over this phrasing and it might distract from the good points she's making. Who knows, they could even use that wording as reason to fire her.

BovaryX · 12/03/2020 09:39

Anyhow, having been asked not to write about this subject for months

Once again, the insidious 'self censorship' promoted by alleged newspapers like the Guardian on explicit display. The Guardian refuses to print news which conflicts with its blinkered ideology. The list of 'uncomfortable' topics continues to expand. Dire paper.

Melioration · 12/03/2020 09:48

She has a novel style Grin but the guardian sounds an awful place to work at the moment.

There is also an article by Julie Bindel about a , Claudia, which was very moving.

Melioration · 12/03/2020 09:52

Sorry, that should say a transwoman, Claudia but the iPad edited it out for me Hmm

TheProdigalKittensReturn · 12/03/2020 10:21

The Guardian doesn't have so many talented columnists that they can afford to lose one, but hey, what about the 300+ talentless hacks who might throw a tantrum if they don't get rid of her? Those navel gazing articles about who the hell knows nobody reads the whole thing anyway won't write themselves, after all! I wonder how many of the signatories are American.

The thing about the writings of the Woke on this issue is that it's very boring, because nobody Woke has sufficient courage to ask any difficult questions, ie. to actually do journalism. For a paper that's bleeding money already pushing out people who're actually interesting to read is not a wise decision, but it's what they'll most likely do rather than having the courage to remind the rest of their staff that they're a newspaper, not a propaganda outlet for Pfizer or the Beaumont Society.

VortexofBloggery · 12/03/2020 10:33

Solidarity Suzanne. I liked her follow up article too.

zanahoria · 12/03/2020 10:42

at least Germaine Greer is supporting her now

mindtheclegs · 12/03/2020 11:23

I too was wondering about that 'I like freaks' comment. Wondering if the drugs are still rattling. I took something similar (ibogaine), stupidly, many moons ago and it took ages to leave my head.

Beamur · 12/03/2020 11:57

Hats off to her continued tenacity and integrity.

PhilODox · 12/03/2020 12:02

I do like Suzanne Moore, birds nest hair and all. Her eulogy for Deborah Orr was very touching and refreshingly candid.

Justhadathought · 12/03/2020 12:03

Is there such a thing as a share token for The Spectator? Can't see the whole piece.

BovaryX · 12/03/2020 12:05

justhadathought
Unfortunately there doesn't seem to be and they have just made it impossible to copy paste from articles. Very annoying....

tiktok · 12/03/2020 12:34

The way she has been treated by the Guardian is very poor. No wonder she is hurt by it.

zanahoria · 12/03/2020 13:08

Lineker scores

just a tap in but they all count

Haworthia · 12/03/2020 13:13

That description of the shrooms retreat sounds bizarre beyond words. Bit of a rambly way to express her upset with her Guardian colleagues (I liked the line about the trans woman resigning, then resigning again) but I think mindtheclegs might be onto something.

Floisme · 12/03/2020 13:20

Wowsers at Gary Lineker. He always had great timing.

Al1Langdownthecleghole · 12/03/2020 13:43

The Guardian doesn't have so many talented columnists that they can afford to lose* one.

I'm reminded of go woke, go broke Prodigal,^^ though I can't think of a witty phrase.

Go woke and get the stupid working for you.

mindtheclegs · 12/03/2020 13:50

Should say I did like that article though - and like a PP said 'resigned and then resigned again' 😂😂 Oh the narcissism is blinding!

CharlieParley · 12/03/2020 14:22

That was well funny. Thanks for posting.

The mushroom thing sounds like the opposite of what I would have expected (and totally awful), but interesting to read about all the same.

I get the "I like freaks, I like fluidity" comment. The word freak has been used in a positive context for more than fifty years, I think there was a whole music scene, too. For me that's a reference to those who flamboyantly play with, subvert or break gender norms. I like that and from her comment I guess Suzanne does, too.
