Evan Davis misgenders a non-binary activist

Did anyone hear the segment on non-binary passports on R4 PM just now? Evan Davis introduced the segment: "Christie Elan-Cane brought the case blah blah... I spoke to her earlier - " and then he realised what he'd said and literally stopped and spluttered for ages. Must try to clip it and share - it was so hilarious that DD came into the kitchen to find out what I was laughing at!

Got it - thanks.

😂 Listened just now. The dogs’ toenails were a more sensible topic of discussion.

As for Pur Passport, it sounds like Paw Passport and then we are back to dog toenails Grin

Whatever happened to just laughing at the delusion and self importance ? As I said on another thread I don’t want to laugh at people who are sad but this purperson (I’m guessing woman but I suppose I’m supposed to say Non-gendered entity) is just being pandered to and getting everyone to tiptoe round their delusion and that’s not healthy.

Chiochan · 10/03/2020 20:37

I do hope he genuflected sufficently.

PreseaCombatir · 10/03/2020 20:50

He said her, tried to correct himself, and then said her a second time. Brilliant 🤦‍♀️😂

Binterested · 10/03/2020 20:54

Because she is a her isn’t she? His brain knew the truth. I’m taking a bet here that even MNHQ won’t make me say pur.

Sorry if I can’t, MNHQ, genuinely. But pur ?

PreseaCombatir · 10/03/2020 20:57

It’s amazing how, because ‘purr’ Lol is so confusing, how his brain went straight to ‘her’ and not ‘him’ isn’t it? Odd that...

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 10/03/2020 20:58

If I went on PM and insisted that the earth is flat, I would hope that Evan Davis would give me pretty short shrift. Balance doesn't mean everybody gets to say what they think unchallenged, no matter how batshit their views are. The BBC has got this wrong for years and years with climate change. Now this. Lord Reith must be revolving in his grave.

HopeClearwater · 10/03/2020 21:07

Thanks for the link. Great to hear ED make such a balls of that. Phrase used advisedly 😉

TinselAngel · 10/03/2020 21:10

If "pur"is "her", what is "she"?

1984in2019 · 10/03/2020 21:18

I love ED and I love that he has completely by accident shone a light on how utterly ridiculous this is.
Two very different interviewers today, ED and Piers M highlighted the sheer stupidity of gender identity ideology.

GrumpyMiddleAgedWoman · 10/03/2020 21:35

I thought that the point of a passport wasn't to affirm your identity but to let someone else check that you are who you claim to be. Hence the nice clear photo and so on.

But if someone else can have 'purr', am I allowed 'woof'?

EmmaGrundyForPM · 10/03/2020 22:03

I'm presuming 'per' is short for person?

It's just bollocks. Or should that be ovaries?

theflushedzebra · 10/03/2020 22:04

Just listened - it was inadvertently hilarious, wasn't it?

Poor Evan Davies - woker than woke and messed up the preferred pronouns. He committed literal violence live on national radio Grin

Guess what your subconscious was telling you Evan? That she's a female human.

Binterested · 10/03/2020 22:05

If per means person then we are all pers. per se pers actually Grin

Polynerd · 10/03/2020 22:05

@1984in2019 I used to like Evan until I heard a piece on PM about incarcerated mothers last year. Evan's first line of questioning was "what about incarcerated fathers?"

Goddess, what's per pronoun for 'she' ? No misgendering intended above - I genuinely don't know.

Per/ Pis/ Pe ?

WrathofFaeKlopp · 10/03/2020 22:13

TinselAngel

If "pur"is "her", what is "she"?

She is Pee and His is Pis.

Of course, duhGrin

WrathofFaeKlopp · 10/03/2020 22:17

But then...
If She is Pee, then He is also Pee.

And I'm not having that, I tell thee,
I'm not having it.

theflushedzebra · 10/03/2020 22:22

Well I suppose both he and she both being pee is at least genuinely gender neutral Grin

OhHolyJesus · 10/03/2020 22:47

Yes Christie 'per' is part of the word person and you can shorten it further to 'pr' if you chose but no one knows what you're talking about.

Evan knows you're a woman. All the listeners hearing your voice know you're a woman. If your passport says 'X' you're unlikely to be let in in most countries.

I really don't see what any of this achieves.

The BBC web story quotes UN figures of intersex people being estimated at 1.7% globally, the same as red haired people. Who are also either male or female. We don't have hair colour on our passports.

Honestly, what is the point?

MangoHat · 10/03/2020 22:59

I heard this and loved Evan tying himself in terrible knots. What a ridiculous issue to spend 30 years campaigning for.

I would also ask, if you have an X on your passport and you need to be intimately searched at customs, do you want a man or a woman to do that search? What if the person conducting the search has an X on their passport? How do I know if I would permit that person to conduct an intimate search on me?

definitelygc · 10/03/2020 23:01

I was sat in a bar/restaurant (can't remember which) with per and per partner in London on the next table once. This was before I knew who they (sp?) were but I remember them (sp?) because they looked like they were from the Matrix and just sat and stared in silence for the entire evening. I feel sorry for per that per has fought for 30 years only to lose but, as someone else said, I'd be fascinated to understand why.

SarahTancredi · 10/03/2020 23:02
Grin

What indulgent bollocks...

Voice0fReason · 10/03/2020 23:16

Per?
Oh FFS!

As for X on a passport - no. You are male or female, regardless of how you choose yo identify.

MrsWooster · 10/03/2020 23:29

That was a deeply satisfying listen.
