Did anyone hear the segment on non-binary passports on R4 PM just now? Evan Davis introduced the segment: "Christie Elan-Cane brought the case blah blah... I spoke to her earlier - " and then he realised what he'd said and literally stopped and spluttered for ages. Must try to clip it and share - it was so hilarious that DD came into the kitchen to find out what I was laughing at!

We were FFSing at the radio - I commented to DH 'I wonder how many other households are yelling at the radio" at that nonsense.

I noticed that the non-binary person claimed it was discriminatory not to be allowed an X option, but given that every single person on the planet can be categorised* as M or F I wasn't sure who was being discriminated against?

(*some rare intersex conditions may make categorisation less straightforward)

It goes to show that this business of it being easy to change out something like pronouns is false, it's completely different than changing a personal name.

Per is the unisex pronoun in one of my all time favourite novels (Woman on the Edge of Time) and I have a huge soft spot for it. But I would never ever ever ever ask anyone to address me by it

I got dogs’ toenails too . Just going back to listen to the right clip now.

On the upside - no one I know is buying this now. Had a lunch with an old colleague today and we didn’t even really have unpack the issues. I said a few words and she said a few words and we were of one accord. Everyone who is a grownup knows this is nonsense.

Oh good grief. Per says that per has no choice but to continue campaigning. How about NOT campaigning and doing something useful instead? You can't control how other people perceive you anyway. Evan's reaction just completely underlined how impossible it is to refer to people with these pronouns.
