Harry Miller on Politics North this morning

The marvellous hero that is Harry Miller has just been on our local BBC politics programme . Jane Fae was also a guest...

I just wanted to express support and gratitude to HM if he ever peruses MN.

Did anyone else in the north see the programme? He made fantastic points about debate and being silenced or having your thinking checked in an Orwellian style. He also quite clearly stated that 'woman means adult human female'.

Oh Harry..... I agree, but that post will prob get deleted for misgendering tho. What was with JF sitting weirdly sideways to the camera - was that explained? Like JF was posing for an 80’s school photo?

(At least you can say arse here tho)

WorkingItOutAsIGo · 01/03/2020 14:59

I think JF thought is was a coquettish pose.

PurpleCrowbarWhereIsLangCleg · 01/03/2020 15:01

That'll go 'poof!' in minutes I reckon, Harry. The Monitors will be all over you ah, using unkindly accurate pronouns.

Good show today - thank you x. Smile

Caaarrrl · 01/03/2020 15:04

Thanks Harry. Your post will be deleted though I've no doubt.

Murraygoldberg · 01/03/2020 15:05

Thanks Harry, your post will be deleted but doesn't mean that it's wrong

Datun · 01/03/2020 15:05

Harry, don't misgender on here. You will be deleted. And then you will be banned.

Caaarrrl · 01/03/2020 15:06

That woman on the sofa with you was incredibly rude! She wouldn't even look at you.

TedsFederationRep · 01/03/2020 15:07

I think we all owe you a big vote of thanks, Harry.

As soon as your court case was determined, I wrote to my MP about the importance of free speech. She is the Universities Minister.

refusetobeasheep · 01/03/2020 15:18

Enjoyed that - thanks Harry and for continuing the fight!

Strangerthantruth · 01/03/2020 15:20

I think that angle probably flatters a receding hairline..

RuffleCrow · 01/03/2020 15:23

I hope your comment stands @HazzaTheOwl. Pronouns reference sex. End of.

Catting · 01/03/2020 15:26

Hazza can't be deleted because @MNHQ have said that we can use sex based language now. It is 'civility' that they will use as an excuse to delete posts.

But seeing as Hazza is a man, I expect his posts will stay, only women have to be kind all the time.

Imnobody4 · 01/03/2020 15:30

I've never got this argument that to protect minorities you have to attack freedom. Don't minorities have an interest in protecting freedom of speech too. One thing I did agree with JF about is if you try and stifle specific speech it just morphs into something else. You can't out legislate human ingenuity.

Cwenthryth · 01/03/2020 16:05

Wait, what? We can use sex-based pronouns now? When did that happen? I mean, yay, free speech....!

thelikelylass · 01/03/2020 16:28

I've just watched this. I have been trying to calmly explain this argument to people when they seem to be at a loss to understand the issues here.. thanks to Harry I can now simply sent them this link in a message. You were great Harry, thanks.

HotSauceCommittee · 01/03/2020 16:37

I went to a diversity day in my organisation (police). I spoke up about the Equality Act of 2010 and how we, in the criminal justice system, have a duty of care to protect...male pattern offending .....It was quite embarrassing and I had to say it, but the Stonewall Guy (gay male, wait til they come for him if he’s only attracted to penis) dismissed it as the “bathroom myth.”
The superintendent shook his head at me and the LGBT lead asked to speak to me after. So fair play, Harry. Some of us in the police do understand, but most of us are afraid of losing our jobs. I probably will at some point.
I was so cheering you when you won your case and was wishing our Chief would comment on the need for debate. He didn’t.

Catting · 01/03/2020 16:52

@Cwenthryth, on the Femicide thread they say we can use correct sex for talking about male crimes, violence etc, but we have to be 'civil' about it.

I don't consider using sex based words to be an un-civil thing to do, and as such I will call men 'he'.

Thisismytimetoshine · 01/03/2020 16:57

Thanks, Harry. You rock.

Glenthebattleostrich · 01/03/2020 16:59

Well done Harry.

Strangerthantruth · 01/03/2020 17:01

Hotsauce the regurgitation of this americanism "bathroom myth" by men in the UK about women's facilities in the UK is infuriating. Gay men are even less likely to be aware of their sexism than straight men considering their disengagement from women's lives but it seems like they don't let that stop them from believing they know more than us about us, and that we need our lives explaining to us by them.

Cwenthryth · 01/03/2020 17:05

Oh right. (Sadly) being a total nob isn’t a crime, though.

FloralBunting · 01/03/2020 17:11

Imma just gonna leave a Dark Crystal reference hanging because it's just something I do when I see some porn advocates. Don't mind me Wink

Catting · 01/03/2020 17:28

@Cwenthryth , yes, but when discussing male people who are campaigning to remove women's rights, it's massively disingenuous to say about Jane Fae (for example) that 'she' said blah blah about the situation when in fact, it is a male saying it.
This confusing language makes people believe things that aren't true; the amount of people who wrongly think Caster Semenya is an XX female (albeit a very masculine one) are staggering.

Cwenthryth · 01/03/2020 17:32

I agree 100% Catting, I’m just sceptical that the MN moderation policy has suddenly changed so drastically as to permit correct sex-based pronouns when discussing JF’s appearance on telly. Sadly.

Harry’s post is still up so far though!

Catting · 01/03/2020 17:43

From MNHQ:

"Just one thing we'd like to stress, in terms of what we 'allow' (or not); moderating decisions are always contextual, and the tone of posts is really important. Civility isn't just in individual words, it can be an attitude that shines off a post, and when it does it makes us that bit more minded to leave that post alone."

So, I'm assuming that as long as I am polite, I can say that as a man, Jane Fae has no place talking the way he does about women's rights. He has no skin in the game, and I do say that respectfully, but I can't say my thoughts on it if I have to pretend that I'm talking about a woman!
