Barnados - Gender Identity Training

I’m a trainee teacher and university have had Barnados in twice now to deliver their Gender Identity training to us all.

The first time it was about the Genderbread person and how we should look at people’s gender as opposed to sex.

The second time it was a bit of the same. They also read out some statements and had us moving across the room as to whether we agreed or disagreed with the statement. If you were on the “wrong” side then you were asked to explain your opinion. Things like “should children be allowed hormone blockers”. We’ve been told that women have to be called ciswomen and to be perfectly honest, I felt very uncomfortable with what was being said. I can’t quite put my finger on why - I think it’s because I’m an adult and I have my own experiences and knowledge about it all, but if they’re doing this presentation to kids then surely it’s brainwashing them? I just want to be a woman not cis anything.

Has anyone else had this Barnados training? I thought they helped abused children.

I have worked with children at high risk of sexual abuse, ones expelled from school, extremely low levels of education and often taking drugs.

Barnados worked with them on boundaries and keeping themselves safe.

How can they do that work if they won't question girls showing high levels of dissociation from their bodies? It's an indication of possible sexual abuse which they will just ignore, and they are telling teachers to ignore as well.

We’ve been told that women have to be called ciswomen

Why? That is compelled speech. Why are women being forced to meekly accept an ugly, redundant prefix?

BovaryX · 25/02/2020 07:43

This forcible gender indoctrination in schools is profoundly sinister.

hokolo · 25/02/2020 08:03

It's really difficult to deal with. The sector I work in is full woke and because I am fairly obviously gender non conforming (always have been! just came this way!) I am a target now. I never raise the subject at work but of course it comes up over and over.

If I don't agree I am really a man I am a fascist and a bigot. I don't know what to do. I've had to start growing my hair to try to shut it down, which I last did aged 13...

I can't believe Barnardos still exist. That they still don't believe in safeguarding is no real surprise.

Lordfrontpaw · 25/02/2020 08:10

Children’s homes and safeguarding. 🤔

Apollo440 · 25/02/2020 08:40

Hokolo
That's ludicrous. Raise a bullying complaint. If they are that woke they'll have a grievance procedure. You really don't have to put up with this shit.

Sorry, am I understanding this correctly? Your colleagues in your place of work call you a man because you have/had short hair and are trying to force you to call yourself a man even though you’re not?

Lordfrontpaw · 25/02/2020 10:11

I’d ask for a promotion and a raise then. And the day off to go for a prostate check.

hokolo · 25/02/2020 11:56

It sounds worse when you say it. They don't mean it that way. They are trying to be kind, but it's done in a way that if you don't agree with what they assume you think, based on what you look like, it all just goes wrong.

DodoPatrol · 25/02/2020 13:41

Oh for goodness sake, Hokolo. Can't they see that they are being sexist, not woke, PC, transfriendly or whatever they think they're being?

LaneBoy · 25/02/2020 14:05

Ugh I’m normally not bothered about permission for photos I’m in as a group but from that organisation under that context? No.

The clash between saving children from abuse and this shit is terrifying

ArranUpsideDown · 25/02/2020 14:10

I have to admit that the 'wrong side' and photography made me wonder how much longer it will be until we have an exaggerated version of Catch 22 and its loyalty pledges.

Or this - where injured protesters are compelled to sing something that is antithetical to them:

Just out of interest, Richard Simpson the Assistant director of Safeguarding at Banardos is also the "independent' chair of the Oxfordshire Safeguarding Board who oversaw the review into their Transgender Toolkit.

How interesting.

Languishingfemale · 28/02/2020 00:29

I expect Barnados make a lot of money from their training. As we know with all this - follow the money & look for the gravy train.
