I wonder what the Green Party candidate in Surrey heath said that she had to be re-educated.
The comments are interesting as one person asks her if she will meet with LGB alliance / Woman’s place and she is told to stop it

Yes @Lordfrontpaw it's the JK Rowling effect.

Freespeecher · 22/02/2020 09:21

In a couple of years' time people like Sharon will be used as examples of how the Greens could have turned themselves around if only they'd listened.

Also, Sharon needs to realise that these people aren't really her friends.

Lordfrontpaw · 22/02/2020 09:21

Yup. It’s all part of what I call ‘the knicker elastic effect’. You can only pull something so far one way before it snaps back and whacks you in the eye.

FrogsFrogs · 22/02/2020 10:51

Wrote a long post and it vanished, bugger.

That Surrey Pride post is incredibly irresponsible. Telling children and young people that at least 1 in 3 who feel like them try to kill themselves, wtf are they thinking. Well they aren't, are they.

Strangerthantruth · 22/02/2020 20:12

Them's some big knickers Lordfrontpaw.

Sharon. Get your big girl pants on.

mement0mori · 23/02/2020 09:55

She's actually already member of the local parish council and a candidate for County council. I voted for her for parish council but if she is this easily swayed I won't be voting for her again

She might just need a bit of positive encouragement from local people. She is obviously concerned about children being manipulated and safeguarding. It's always shocking when you are on the receiving end of a backlash and sometimes the first reaction is to retreat.

I sent her a supportive email in the hope that she might realise that not all Green Party voters are of the woke variety. I think the original post was on facebook wasn't it? (as is the retraction). There are only a couple of replies that are backing up her original position. Everyone else is "so great that you have apologised, we all make mistakes".

As an aside, Ive just been reminded that it was Surrey Police who partnered with Mumsnet & Women's Aid for the 2018 campaign to raise awareness of Coersive Control, 'Walking on Eggshells'

Tanith · 23/02/2020 20:44

Surrey Pride and Stephen Ireland were calling for the criminalisation of LGB Alliance not so long ago, I seem to remember.

WanderinWomb · 24/02/2020 11:18

She needs support. We need to let her know she is not alone .
Is terrifying to face all that abuse and not have party seniors protect you.

I'm off to find her and bolster her up. Let's do it. Alone in the gulag is a scary place.

andyoldlabour · 24/02/2020 11:26

Pride in Surrey wish to "educate" Sharon. This seems to be very much the thing nowadays, re-education for those people who dare to "wrongthink".

Arthritica · 24/02/2020 11:32

Sharon, mate, nothing but capitulation and self-abasement will satisfy the narcissim in that movement. Save yourself the bother.

WeBuiltCisCityOnSexistRoles · 24/02/2020 11:47

Fuck sake. Some of these people would love to bring back scold's bridles wouldn't they.

Michelleoftheresistance · 24/02/2020 13:09

Query: If I devote an hour or two to educating Surrey Pride in GC views, will they be GC at the end of it?

Because if their answer to that is 'fuck, no', they might want to think about how arrogant and paternalistic they sound insisting that anyone with other view points is merely ignorant and hasn't yet had the good fortune to have been instructed by them.

OhHolyJesus · 24/02/2020 14:29

There aren't many supportive comments in that Twitter feed Andy , only 4 replies and all GC so I hope Sharon finds that interesting. Whatever comments Pride in Surrey received, as they claim, in support of their position haven't transferred to their social media, they are much more GC.

(I hope Lost Boys Liberation got help for their family.)

littlbrowndog · 26/02/2020 10:38

“There was a fundamental failure to see the problem and a lack of moral courage to confront it.”

The “desire to... ‘push at the boundaries of what was considered appropriate’ had ’blinded them to the danger and led to some seriously flawed thinking’.“

In the absence of an openness and capacity to scrutinise and critique, to ask difficult questions and hear uncomfortable challenge, acceptance is at best misguided, at worst, dangerous.

Surrey Police in the article about the weirdly-painted "Pride Car"

How much Surrey Police's Pride car is costing taxpayers
9 Aug 2019

www.getsurrey.co.uk/news/surrey-news/surrey-police-pride-car-cost-16727062

"Due to the discontent among some, SurreyLive approached Surrey Police to reveal the true cost to taxpayers - which comes to a grand total of ZERO .

That is because the Jaguar I-Pace is a demonstration car which is loaned to both Surrey and Sussex Police forces at no cost. The wrapping too came at no expense as it was paid in full by Bluelite - a vehicle livery company - that uses the images for its own publicity and sales.

A Surrey police spokesman said: " Surrey Police will play a large role in the policing of Pride this weekend. Pride is an event which attracts thousands of people, so it is policed in order to ensure the safety of those attending. There will also be a number of police officers taking part in the parade, but those who do so are participating in their own free time."

"Just last week Surrey Police was forced to defend a video it posted on its Facebook page that had gone viral of two officers dancing during Brighton Pride last weekend.

It attracted more than 300 comments with some complaining of officers dancing on the job, with Surrey Police writing in response:

"While we absolutely take crime seriously and would prioritise addressing any ongoing incidents at the event if they were to occur, Pride is intended to celebrate diversity and bring communities together, and as such, we encourage officers to support that spirit of celebration and unity provided it does not interfere with them carrying out their duties.

"Any officers who takes part in the Pride parade itself does so in their own time."

Excuse me . . .
how does dancing around in the parade while wearing uniform = in their own time??

Lordfrontpaw · 26/02/2020 13:41

Weren't the officers who were filmed dancing and skateboarding with the XR protestors on the bridges told off?

Lordfrontpaw · 26/02/2020 13:43

'bring communities together' - unless you are a woman of course. I didn't see any dancing or decorates coppers at the last women's march I wandered into. In fact, I just was a couple of bored-looking motorcycle policemen making jokes about who was doing the washing up... (no this wasn't 1978, this was 2018)
