C4tintherug · 21/02/2020 21:47

I wonder what the Green Party candidate in Surrey heath said that she had to be re-educated.
The comments are interesting as one person asks her if she will meet with LGB alliance / Woman’s place and she is told to stop it

This stuff is insidious and terrifying. It’s almost as if she’s been ‘reprogrammed’.

DickKerrLadies · 21/02/2020 22:41

"Do it to Julia"

littlbrowndog · 21/02/2020 22:41

Well she don’t have to do. She’s just a candidate.

No need to put up with this shite.

and don’t let the bullies bully you

This is bullying.

VortexofBloggery · 21/02/2020 22:41

When someone doesn't want you to talk about safeguarding children, or ask serious questions about an organisation promoting harmful ideologies to children, they are showing you who they are. Sharon's instincts were spot on.

TheGreatWave · 21/02/2020 23:15

That is quite a claim that 1:3 try to take their own lives. If that is really true that why the hell are they not campaigning for better mental health support? If one of my dc tried to take their own life I wouldn't be looking to internet groups to help them. There is seldom one factor in the decision to try to end a life, so bloody hell lets make sure that these children get all the support they need in case lots of others things are going on.

ElBandito · 21/02/2020 23:32

She's actually already member of the local parish council and a candidate for County council. I voted for her for parish council but if she is this easily swayed I won't be voting for her again.

pombear · 21/02/2020 23:33

Firstly Surrey pride it's affected

Secondly, go look at Samaritans guidelines for talking about suicide. And what the fuck is your TRY in bold about suicide? The 'it might be higher' is even more reckless given Samaritan's guidance about talking about suicide. You're off the fucking page.

You invitation to 'educate' Sharon is sinister.

Your segue into dunking biscuits in Starbucks in the same post that rails against Sharon and includes your language about suicide pretty much seals the deal that shows you have no idea what you're talking about.

Strangerthantruth · 21/02/2020 23:40

Fat Richard rushed in first as usual. He will be here shortly no doubt.

DidoLamenting · 21/02/2020 23:55

Firstly Surrey pride it'saffected

Secondly - the sentence starting Additionally we stand with Mermaids.... makes no sense.

Thirdly- Mermaids is singular. Mermaids is a charity; a single corporate body- not an actual group of fictional creatures.

Fourthly- there should be a full stop after alone and do in the first paragraph.

Fifthy- I can't be bothered correcting the various hanging commas or the garbled sentence about views not that of those

teawamutu · 21/02/2020 23:56

Have they shaved her head and made her do the walk of shame yet?

For. Fuck. Sake.

Sharon, if you're reading: I'm really sorry to see how you've been treated. And ditch these wankers. Honestly. They don't give a fuck about the environment any more, it's all about the purity spiral.

R0wantrees · 22/02/2020 00:06

Maybe Surrey Hubris would be more apt?

SawingForTeens · 22/02/2020 00:11

Sharon, just stand up to this shit, honestly. Stand up. It's happening, people are waking up. No apologies, really Sharon. Magdalen would be proud.

unwashedanddazed · 22/02/2020 00:36

The catastrophising language her detractors are using is absolutely batshit crazy. On Twitter people are calling her comments horrific, disgusting, indefensible, and she should 'renounce' (who says this isn't a cult?). Then that ridiculous hyperbole in the pride statement, reaching out to those 'effected' (sic) and all the suicides and anguish.

FFS she was only asking for robust mental health support for young people experiencing distress!

Of course criticising Mermaids was the crucial error, if she'd left that out she might have got away with it after a bit of grovelling. There's no hope for her now, she might as well get her head out from under the duvet and come on over and join us.

Talking of those who must not be criticised, does anyone know if there's been any news from the Mermaids data leak fiasco? I know they put a lie out about no personal info having been leaked (false, I saw it with my own eyes), and referred themselves to the ICO, but not heard anything else.

RuffleCrow · 22/02/2020 07:12

I have huge sympathy for Sharon, as a former GP member myself. It's not as easy as 'telling them to fuck off'. She will likely have been threatened with deselection, expulsion and most chillingly, (as with most cults) with being cut off from all the friends and acquaintainces she's spent years cultivating (probably to the detriment of her non-GP connections, such is the pressure to be constantly campaigning and attending meetings).

And yes, the 'not in my name' (lol) comments were all from young mc white males looking for a way to exert some control over mummy, but those individuals hold a disproportionate sway in the party.

Pollyputthepizzaon · 22/02/2020 07:18

Does anyone have a share token for the times article?

Qcng · 22/02/2020 07:33

Green Party people (members of and voters of) are batshit.
The GP has been completely infiltrated by identity ideologues and any deviation away from total capitulation gets you clobbered.

Her original comment was completely reasonable. Mermaids are not to be trusted. Now she is grovelling and actually meeting Mermaids? What, so they can giver her sweeties and let her stroke a puppy too?

EverardDigby · 22/02/2020 07:33

I'm pretty sure Sharon has been offered some GC support, but things in the Green Party are still a mess. Maybe they'll learn something from Labour, maybe not....

Daca · 22/02/2020 07:37

‘We love the Mermaids cookies, especially dunked in a flat white.’ Says it all, really: consumerism, lifestyle branding, woke-washing, late-stage capitalism. Funny if it weren’t so sinister. And the 1 in 3 suicide statistic is based on an online survey with 27 participants, IIRC.

BovaryX · 22/02/2020 07:42

There are some very serious questions to be asked about the rampant promotion of transgenderism in young children

What is wrong with asking serious questions? The Green party politician shouldn't apologise. The people attacking her are bullies who don't believe in freedom of speech, don't believe in public scrutiny or debate and don't seem to understand the concept of safeguarding.

Bingo. I wonder if they realise the recurrent 1984 theme isn't a selling point?

Xanthangum · 22/02/2020 08:54

I'm confused - Surrey Pride appears to be asking people to report 'horrid things' that they dont like in the newspapers to the police as hate crimes?

Did they miss the Hsrry the Owl ruling?

Lordfrontpaw · 22/02/2020 08:57

If you bully people into ‘being good’ then they do realise that the simmering resentment will bubbly away under the surface and the eventual backlash will be marvellous.

NotAGirl · 22/02/2020 09:16

Sharon love, thank-you for looking out for children Flowers

Mermaids and their supporters will never forgive you for that.

Come over here and join us, child safeguarding is front and centre of our concerns here
