enforced contraception

EmmaGrundyForPM · 17/02/2020 01:20

A No 10 aide, Andrew Sabisky, has previously advocated enforced contraception by injection at puberty.
Presumably of girls as there's no equivalent for boys. Hes also come up with some frightening theories about OW and ethnicity.

These are the sort of peopl now advising the government.

Calls for Tory aide to be sacked over 'enforced contraception' remarks

He holds some pretty obnoxious views, which I would guess are not a million miles removed from those of Boris Johnson himself, and that twat Dominic Cummings.

Of course unplanned pregnancy in teenagers is a problem, but the state should never have the right to impose medical processes on anyone. What would they do? Stick coils and implants into all teenage girls without their consent? Horrendous idea.

Then there are his comments on women's sports and on black Americans.

AutumnCrow · 17/02/2020 02:05

He's a racist, sexist arsehole in a bad suit.

Goosefoot · 17/02/2020 03:32

I think at this point an idea like this won't be able to gain much traction. But I know quite a few people who, for example, are quite sure it is a good idea to have state enforced vaccination, and don't seem to consider what the implications might be in other areas.

RiddleyW · 17/02/2020 03:36

State enforced vaccination is also terrible - who are these people you know who want it Goose? How would they imagine it would work in practice?

EmmaGrundyForPM · 17/02/2020 07:52

I'm aware that some people think the MMR vaccine ought to be mandatory but this is different.

I know his ideas are very unlikely to gain traction but it's the fact that peopl like this are being encouraged into positions of influence that is so scary. Not so long ago if it was revealed that an adviser or MP had written stuff like this people would be demanding apologies and resignations. Now its seen as "a bit off the wall but nothing to make a fuss about".

Not sure how long he'll last. He's a complete idiot. What exactly are his credentials as a superforecaster anyway? Isn't this the new normal, saying the most extreme thing you can think of to get noticed.

Mockersisrightasusual · 17/02/2020 10:07

Ironically, this plank is a very persuasive argument for compulsory contraception.

His idea won't gain traction now but we've all seen how quickly the Overton window can shift and how little power women still have to resist it. I agree that the idea of enforced vaccinations is one step too far down that path. What was it Harry said in his triggernometry interview? "dance with the devil because you like his tune today..."

noblegiraffe · 17/02/2020 11:14

I’ve been following Sabisky for years on twitter, he mainly tweets about technical details of the Anglican Church. Cassocks, order of service, theological debates and so on. So worth knowing that his views come with a side-order of religion.

I started following him as an anti-echo chamber thing, he talked at an education conference in 2014 (not sure what about) then there was something about race and IQ he wrote that was repeated by a prominent education author and there was a massive row about racism.

Goosefoot · 17/02/2020 12:52

State enforced vaccination is also terrible - who are these people you know who want it Goose? How would they imagine it would work in practice?

Mainly they are people who see themselves as pro-science, wanting to halt the force of the anti-vaxx movement. They often see themselves as intensely rational and are involved with the Skeptic movement, New Atheism, etc. They also seem very casual about wanting to ban anti-vaxx information like films or websites.

It's become surprisingly big since there have been some larger outbreaks, but the ones I talk to say "Yes, but this is true, it's SCIENCE". No sense that even science is not that straightforward, or the implications for rights relating to the body, speech issues, freedom of thought or belief.

There has been a shift IMO toward this kind of thinking, more authoritarianism but accompanied by a sense that there is this possibility of a lot of very objective knowledge and that it is good to make sure everyone accepts it. There was a thread on the No Outsiders program the other day, and you could see the same split, those who had an issue with the whole thing really, and those who objected only to the gender ideology parts and thought other parts of it were fine because what it was teaching the kids was true, even if some families have other perspective - they just need re-education.

ToeStubber · 17/02/2020 13:08

Forced contraception is a ridiculous idea. So is forced vaccinations and I say this as someone who is very much for vaccines. It’s a slippery slope to start forcing these things.

CaptainKirksSpikeyGhost · 17/02/2020 13:10

Presumably this will make "queering the classroom" have less consequences.
unfortunately I can see it coming in.

MagnificentDelurker · 17/02/2020 14:06

It is very telling that this issue has not created as much outrage in Mumsnet’s feminist corner. Labour was torn to pieces over transgender issue but the right wing government just gets a light “you naughty boy!”. Labour was accused of fascism and now we have actual fascists in the government. For what’s its worth I do agree with the main arguments.

Goosefoot · 17/02/2020 16:45

I think it's not created as much outrage because it's just one guys opinion, and doesn't seem in any danger of becoming legislation at the moment. But everyone sees it as something that could be concerning, could be related to other issues.

Not quite the same as the official opposition leaders supporting widespread expulsions from the party, or groups giving questionable interpretations of the law, or regulatory capture of institutions.

MrsDoylesTeaBags · 17/02/2020 19:02

This is not a new idea, and last time the final result was pretty shocking, you'd think we could learn from history but obviously not. www.history.com/topics/germany/eugenics

AutumnCrow · 17/02/2020 19:16

I think at the moment it's perceived as the stupidity of a lone consultant 'weirdo' (quoting Cummings and the newspapers there, not my term) who is on borrowed time.

His views are abhorrent on FGM, too.

GinUnicorn · 17/02/2020 19:39

This man is disgusting. I do wonder how such obviously sexist and racist individuals get into high positions. Definition of white male privilege I guess

DidoLamenting · 17/02/2020 20:01

Sabisky, who describes himself as a political forecaster, has also deleted tweets calling Labour MPs Angela Rayner, Rebecca Long-Bailey and Yvette Cooper “dim”.

To be fair many posters on here have said the same about Long- Bailey and Rayner.

DidoLamenting · 17/02/2020 20:11

He has resigned.

AutumnCrow · 17/02/2020 20:39

Yvette Cooper is highly intelligent and that was a ridiculous thing for anyone to say.

Long Bailey and Rayner have been spouting nonsense. Still not sure whether they are dim per se or they've opportunistically latched onto to bonkers extreme views.

Topseyt · 17/02/2020 20:41

Good riddance to him. It must be one of the shortest tenures ever in any government job.

AutumnCrow · 17/02/2020 20:48

Guardian leading with it

What a sorry and pathetic saga

Imnobody4 · 17/02/2020 23:01

Well that was quicker than I thought it would be.
