March of the thought police Harry Miller

There is a great article in the DM about Harry Miller's case. The article describes the CPS' pivotal role in pursuing hate incidents which are not crimes. It questions whether these investigations are a legitimate use of police resources when police are failing to investigate crimes like burglary and rape cases rarely reach prosecution. It discusses the inherently problematic nature of the subjective interpretation of non crime incidents and identifies the fact that police guidelines were influenced by transgender lobby groups. The fact that the police are spending time pursuing individuals on Twitter for crime non crimes should concern everyone concerned with freedom of speech and how it is being threatened by the new totalitarians.

^I have broad shoulders, but this fight is hard. If ordinary people like myself don't stand up against what I see as over-reaching authority by the police,
who will?^

Wow! That is a really clear and informative article. Like it or love it, the DM is really covering this issue well.

boatyardblues · 01/02/2020 07:31

Does this mean the judgement is imminent? It feels like scene-setting so readers will know what’s going on when it is released.

Umyeahnah · 01/02/2020 08:16

That's an excellent article.

I was ShockShockShock at this

Scotland Yard, which now has a staggering 900 hate crime officers

SparkleTwinkleShine · 01/02/2020 08:19

How??? Just how???

SarahTancredi · 01/02/2020 08:32

I'm puzzled. They used Him for miranda yardley Shock

MMHQ thats the article not me before you delete or strike.

TheProdigalKittensReturn · 01/02/2020 08:47

Scotland Yard, which now has a staggering 900 hate crime officers

And how many covering actual crimes that don't take place in people's heads only?

FFS, people, Minority Report wasn't meant to be a how to guide.

Mockers2020Vision · 01/02/2020 08:48

Daily Mail approvingly quotes Strasbourg judges and the ECHR.

World's Gone Mad: Official.

BernardBlackMissesLangCleg · 01/02/2020 09:02

the College of Policing stoutly defended its hate-crime guidelines, saying that Harry Miller had 'engaged in regular tweeting relating to transgender people'

this is mad. it implies the CoP's problem with Harry includes him even tweeting about transgender people, regardless of what he says.

what the actual fuck?

HandsOffMyLangCleg · 01/02/2020 09:03

Excellent article. Unsurprisingly, comments in favour of Harry.

boatyardblues · 01/02/2020 09:04

Lang’s sacred caste post comes to mind.

Ameanstreakamilewide · 01/02/2020 09:04

Sarah, I think Miranda uses male pronouns.

But I could be mistaken, obviously.

Ameanstreakamilewide · 01/02/2020 09:08

boaty is that article of Lang's still searchable on here, please, cos i had no joy with Google?

It sounds like dynamite.

Doyoumind · 01/02/2020 09:09

Yes, I think Miranda does use male pronouns. Will read the piece in a bit.

Binterested · 01/02/2020 09:09

He wasn’t intending to be kind to trans people. He was intending to use clear and ordinary speech to draw attention to the truth behind this ideology.

I didn’t get the police memo that said I always had to be kind and to forget about the truthful bit.

This is where we are being let down so much. Where is the Humanist Society and Amesty - surely their job is to uphold people’s rights not to be believers and to tell the truth? I know the answer by the way Angry

SarahTancredi · 01/02/2020 09:12

Thanks. I didnt know that.

calllaaalllaaammma · 01/02/2020 09:35

900 hate crime officers just at Scotland Yard? I wonder how many there are across the whole uk?
So you could work for years as a police officer and not arrest one person that’s crazy.

HandsOffMyLangCleg · 01/02/2020 09:41

He wasn’t intending to be kind
This! What is this obsession with kindness?

As a 46 year old woman, I might be hurt that my fertile days are coming to an end, so if somebody talks about the menopause in factual, biological terms, should I be offended because that isn't 'kind', should I demand that nobody mentions the menopause, or ask people to pretend that it doesn't exist or that nobody talks about pregancy?

It's ridiculous is what it is. This intergenerational kindness bollocks, spearheaded by the silly student on GMB this week.

langclegflavoredbananamush · 01/02/2020 09:43

When I saw the thread title, I had a chilling moment where I thought the judgment had come out and it was bad...
The suspense is getting to me...

ScapaFlo · 01/02/2020 09:47

Me too bananamush! I thought it would be delivered before Christmas.

boatyardblues · 01/02/2020 09:49

This intergenerational kindness bollocks, spearheaded by the silly student on GMB this week.

It’s bollocks too. Older women are more likely to have had children and be living with the consequences of birth injuries or adverse experiences of giving birth (eg PTSD). How can women campaign for better maternity care and treatment for birth injuries if they can’t discuss their biological reality and experiences? Is that not intergenerational unkindness by young people with limited experiences? Should these women suffer in silence and further generations of women suffer similar injuries to spare other people’s feelings? What about their needs?

Melioration · 01/02/2020 09:53

It was first going to be out early January or even before Christmas. I read early February in a recent Harry the owl article.
I thought it might have slipped out yesterday with all the brexit stuff going on. I don’t think it is going to be buried though.

Excellent, informative article.

Binterested · 01/02/2020 10:01

Yes I do always wonder why nobody feels the need to be kind to me.

Seems like my ego is just supposed to get on with life as best it can whereas other egos need very careful looking after and protecting by the rest of us. We used to have names for the bodies in which those two sorts of egos typically reside but I’ve forgotten what they were.

Al1Langdownthecleghole · 01/02/2020 10:08

Clever article. It knows it’s readers. Comparing low clear-up rates of burglary and violent crime to zealous pursuit of those-what-tell-the-truth will hit home.

JellySlice · 01/02/2020 10:09

It is unkind to lie to people.

We worry about people whose sense of self and self-esteem is tied up with, entirely dependent upon, how many 'likes' or 'follows' they get. We know it's unhealthy, we know it's unsustainable. So why are we being forced to lie to people whose entire sense of self is dependent upon other people's behaviour?
