@JustineMumsnet

We the undersigned would like to ask you to consider reinstating LangCleg after a temporary suspension, as you have done with others.

Or perhaps, consider reinstating her for a three-month trial period and then reviewing.

We know you will have realised, from the two other LangCleg threads, how much her wisdom and constant voice in support of robust safeguarding is welcomed by so many on this board. It is truly a great loss to us, and to the depth of discussion about such important matters.

We hope Justine that you might do two things:

  • Review what actually happened with LangCleg and decide whether it really was so dire that she deserves permanent expulsion, or whether perhaps there was an element of misunderstanding on your moderators' part (which Michaeel's post indicates may have happened) and, that perhaps she was being held to an inappropriately high standard compared to others
  • Review the process, so that strong voices on here are able to continue to be heard for the benefit of all Mumsnet users

Or perhaps do neither of those things, and just reinstate her because you recognise how important your other Mumsnet users find her.... I guess the equivalent of a Royal Pardon,

Please hear our voice.

And everyone on here, please do sign if you want LangCleg back - just that, a signature with any discussion continuing on the LangCleg 2 thread. A signature to say you want her back and hope that @JustineMumsnet will consider this.

Thank you - both my fellow mums netters and Justine

heath I know you meant well, but it came across badly. That type of post will only reinforce their decision.

I read “I’m afraid..” as a polite English phrase which means “I know you won’t like this but [insert decision].” Quite definitive.

It’s not about training, it is about two fundamentally different belief systems. Imagine a GC feminist trying to moderate a reddit trans board - it would be hard for both sides.

Lang if you’re reading, please consider setting up your own blog with a Patreon! I would be glad to set up a monthly transfer as I’m sure others would too.

We need your content, please Smile

2BthatUnnoticed · 07/02/2020 02:43

And if this was in any way viable, the GBP 100s heath mentioned (which I agree could be found, no problem) could help kickstart it all... could this be a big win/win for all concerned??

This is very disappointing. A huge loss to the board.

I don't really know what else to say. I'm upset on behalf of Lang and all the women here.

BigWholeBean · 07/02/2020 03:39

This is very disappointing

TheBewildernessisWeetabix · 07/02/2020 04:07

It is disappointing.
The admin team wanting there to be room for "both sides" of the issue of safeguarding our children is even more disappointing.
Betty Bowers: An absence of ethics is exhibited by calling the absence of ethics "controversies" instead of an absence of ethics.

2BthatUnnoticed · 07/02/2020 05:18

Take heart all.. I’m deeply hoping Lang might do a blog we can all support.. safeguarding is something all mums care about, there would surely be a market for it!

(although whether Lang has the time or inclination is another matter of course!)

MonsteraCheeseplant · 07/02/2020 07:16

Is the aim to block everyone who represents the radfem perspective until there is no controversy?

2BthatUnnoticed · 07/02/2020 07:38

I don’t think radfems in general are being moderated out.

Only those who believe that enforcing TWAW as a societal policy creates a safeguarding issue.

This belief has become taboo for the Left. It is becoming taboo here, and in most online spaces.

Tombakersscarf · 07/02/2020 08:04

But TWAW is not a "societal policy," it is a lie. At times a lie mean to be kind, but a lie all the same.

MonsteraCheeseplant · 07/02/2020 08:11

So MN are banning radfems for wrongthink. Good to know.

Floisme · 07/02/2020 08:13

I'm disappointed but not surprised.
I think the best response now is to talk about safeguarding more than ever.

2BthatUnnoticed · 07/02/2020 08:23

Many things promoted as “societal policies” are based on lies

Yes I agree. Keep talking but be careful (and perhaps consider, maybe, keeping interactions with hq to a minimum? Only as that is what lead to Lang getting banned!)

SirVixofVixHall · 07/02/2020 08:46

I am surprised they have banned her. Lang was such a force for good on these pages. I am shocked actually, that someone who cares so deeply about women and children, should be banned from a site primarily for women, most of them also mothers.
It is very depressing indeed to think that speaking out leads to this.

Yes, SirVix, indeed.

heathspeedwell · 07/02/2020 15:26

I didn't suggest training in the Freedom Programme to be negative to the Mods, I think it's a great idea.

Having an insight into how to help survivors of violence would be helpful on a forum where women discuss our families, relationships and safeguarding.

It's no criticism of the Mods to suggest this would offer new insights.

When my work offered me free First Aid training I jumped at the chance because I could see it would be helpful.

I didn't take it as a passive aggressive criticism that I didn't already know how to perform CPR.

WotchaTalkinBoutWillis · 07/02/2020 15:30

It's insinuating they don't know their own minds though, telling them that they're being abused....very patronising, and honestly, how do you think that's going to go down?!

heathspeedwell · 07/02/2020 15:34

Where have I suggested that anyone doesn't know their own minds or is being abused? Are you mixing me up with someone else Willis?

WotchaTalkinBoutWillis · 07/02/2020 15:40

Telling people they need retraining and to go on the freedom programme to spot abuse - can you really not see how that comes across?

TrollTheRespawnJeremy · 07/02/2020 15:43

So do we go to reddit then?

What’s the point in mumsnet if it only wants to support vapid bitchiness rather than any real conversation?

Tombakersscarf · 07/02/2020 15:43

Teachers have training in those things 🤷‍♂️ Not an insult

WotchaTalkinBoutWillis · 07/02/2020 15:46

Where have they supported vapid bitchiness on here?
Unless you mean the sleb and Insta threads, as they definitely are full of vapid bitchiness sometimes lol

Willis I haven't told anyone they need 'retraining', I really don't know what you're on about. I happened to mention training because I've just done some via my work and I found it really interesting and useful.

We are now at an impasse with regards getting Lang back so I thought it would be sensible to ask Justine directly if there is anything we can do to help.

Clearly I'm not in the best position to suggest the form that help takes - I'm sure other people will be able to come up with much better ideas than me.

But I want to start a dialogue with Justine. It's possible that if she discusses it with the Mods there might be something we can all work out together to help get Lang back.

I also want to make it clear that I for one would be delighted to donate to any ideas that might help.
