@JustineMumsnet

We the undersigned would like to ask you to consider reinstating LangCleg after a temporary suspension, as you have done with others.

Or perhaps, consider reinstating her for a three-month trial period and then reviewing.

We know you will have realised, from the two other LangCleg threads, how much her wisdom and constant voice in support of robust safeguarding is welcomed by so many on this board. It is truly a great loss to us, and to the depth of discussion about such important matters.

We hope Justine that you might do two things:

  • Review what actually happened with LangCleg and decide whether it really was so dire that she deserves permanent expulsion, or whether perhaps there was an element of misunderstanding on your moderators' part (which Michaeel's post indicates may have happened) and, that perhaps she was being held to an inappropriately high standard compared to others
  • Review the process, so that strong voices on here are able to continue to be heard for the benefit of all Mumsnet users

Or perhaps do neither of those things, and just reinstate her because you recognise how important your other Mumsnet users find her.... I guess the equivalent of a Royal Pardon,

Please hear our voice.

And everyone on here, please do sign if you want LangCleg back - just that, a signature with any discussion continuing on the LangCleg 2 thread. A signature to say you want her back and hope that @JustineMumsnet will consider this.

Thank you - both my fellow mums netters and Justine

I just read this: I'm confident we've been doing this for long enough to know if someone's maliciously abusing the system and rest assured we do and would ban anyone we considered to be vexatiously reporting in this way.

Can you say intern doxxing scandal? I thought you could.

I run my own business too. It’s in a complex regulated space. I have lots of employees and clients and it’s a really successful enterprise - built by two partners and me over a similar timeframe to Mumsnet. So I recognise how Justine is feeling.

Like MN we don’t get everything right. We’ve made lots of mistakes and sometimes our clients tell us this and sometimes our employees do. Sometimes they make points that we cannot resolve because of the regulatory landscape or for commercial reasons. And sometimes we just have a difference of opinion. But I hope we always remember that sometimes a tipping point is reached and things have to change. If this was my business I’d be thinking this might be one of those times.

Problem is that if the mods reinstate a banned member, where will it end? Too many posters seem to act territorially on FWR and the moderators have issued a reminder that they are the rule makers and nobody is 'above the rules'. If they back down then posters will just continue to flaunt the rules.

They’ve done it plenty of times before. There’s even examples on the MN subreddit - some prominent posters who were banned were then emailed a few weeks later with offers to return.

Jargoyle · 25/01/2020 01:59

I don't see it happening this time. I think it be like when they banned that other poster - Bewilderment or something.

TheBewildernessisWeetabix · 25/01/2020 02:14

I was not banned. I was asked to leave and I did. For a while.

BettyFloop · 25/01/2020 02:51

tbw - I've known you for a long time and that just reminded me of how much I love you. Grin

For the rest of us: it would be really, really useful to know exactly what rule Lang broke.

Lang was/is the most erudite poster talking and sharing expertise about the safeguarding of children from harm. Don't we all have a responsibility, a duty, to do that - safeguard children from harm? And it's bloody obvious that, by banning Lang, MN have created a suspicion about how seriously they take their responsibility in that regard. Yes - they make the rules....but "territory" here is the safety and well-being of children - minors; those who are deemed to have no agency in law because of their minor status.

So how safe do MN members feel now? Those abused as children, those who fear their children are vulnerable to abuse or actually being abused? I don't know. All I know is that Lang was a huge support, the voice of clarity and reason and an asset to this board.
Lang is sorely missed - and her loss is to the detriment of MN. People like Lang make this site.
