Maya Big Press Coverage in Mail

BovaryX · 20/12/2019 05:31

Maya’s verdict and JK Rowlings’ Tweet are getting major coverage in the Mail. There is also an accompanying opinion piece by Julie Bindel talking about the vitriolic abuse and intimidation of women who speak out on this issue. The Mail is read by millions, many of whom may have little idea about how this ideology is informing policy and how its proponents are trying to silence debate and compel speech. This coverage is excellent news because this agenda has advanced by stealth. It has no popular support and given the bullying antics of its most vocal supporters? It’s unlikely to gain from publicity

As I know all too well, the temperature on trans issues has a habit of reaching boiling point almost immediately, and is one in which very few people are brave enough to dip their toe

The top trends on Twitter this morning are dominated by anti JK Rowling and trans activist tweets.

BovaryX · 20/12/2019 05:51

Great! Because the relentless campaign to silence debate and control speech has just catapulted this to the forefront of mainstream media. The more vitriolic tweets, the more the unpleasant authoritarian agenda and its proponents are exposed. Not a good look.

This massive outpouring of vitriol over such a harmless statement - that no one should lose their job for believing biological sex is real - will make the fanaticism of the gender cult clear to everyone.

IsadoraQuagmire · 20/12/2019 06:45

There are loads of delusional idiots on Twitter in their sad little echo chamber.
Meanwhile, back in the real world, practically no one thinks humans can change sex and most people don't give a shit about loudly saying so either.

ImGenderfree · 20/12/2019 07:23

It’s also in The Times - includes the action against Oxford CC guidance

Looks like I’ll be buying The Times today to leave open on the coffee table for the myriad of visitors over the next few days....

FannyCann · 20/12/2019 07:42

Good plan scottishbride
One for the coffee table at work. I subtly leave copies lying around from time to time when there is a good article. It's a big department and lots of users of a big room which never gets tidied so they lie around for a while. Grin

RuffleCrow · 20/12/2019 07:45

I think a lot of people in the pile on are anime sock puppets and bots. The exact same message hundreds of times. Whereas those who tweet in support are much more individual.

I think the illusion of number is a huge part of the tra/mra/map game.

HandsOffMyRights · 20/12/2019 07:48

I agree that Twitter is an echo chamber, which makes it terrifying that in real life laws are being made and broken because of a group of mainly angry men.

The mantrums that take place on Twitter and the 'guidance' by Stonewall and co create an environment of fear and hostility, where some would rather give the red faced toddlers what they demand rather than be branded a phobe, doxxed, threatened and hounded.

We cannot give in to such bully boy behaviour. When a child is tantruming and demanding parents give him the world on a stick, or else he'll hold his breath, do most parents give in?

This has exposed the true nature of the beast.

Now come on world, let's tell them "no!"

HandsOffMyRights · 20/12/2019 07:49

And the PC Guls of the world - you have played a major role in all of this.

BovaryX · 20/12/2019 07:49

Ruffle
That’s a very interesting point. The ferocity of the social media TWAW wing has not only been effective in silencing women, but as you say, it has created a false impression about support. This is a niche lobby with a totalitarian agenda and a penchant for compelled speech. Beyond Twitter, it has zero support.

Hands
I agree. Because the virulent misogyny isn’t even lurking. It’s explicit. Some of the attitudes and actions of this lobby and their determination to forcibly silence vocal women is just staggering

I’ve just read the article in the Times while on the train. I’m leaving it open at the right page on the table for the next passenger!

Jk Rowling’s involvement will bring the debate to the forefront. And reputation-ally she’s so respectable and fair that hopefully most people will not simply jump to the conclusion that she is a so-called TERF. Until her tweet most people won’t have even been aware of Maya’s case - I only heard about it through Mumsnet. I read the judgment yesterday. It would be interesting to see Maya’s witness statement but I’m not sure if that’s publicly available.

StandUpStraight · 20/12/2019 08:30

The Telegraph also has three articles on it this morning. I don’t think they do share tokens but an extract from the Jemima Lewis article:
“So. In order to protect the dignity of those who identify as female, women must not be allowed to identify themselves as biologically distinct from males. Those who have lived all their lives in female bodies have no special insight into what it means to be a woman. Free speech must be silenced, in the name of democracy. The staircase tilts upside down, and the hands sketch themselves...Most trans people – most people – just want to be treated with respect and kindness. It should have been possible to achieve these modest aims without undermining the rights of the entire female sex. But the moment this became a zero-sum game, with the culture warriors of the trans lobby insisting that there must be no distinction, in law or in opinion, between someone who is born a woman and someone who becomes one, all hope of rational debate was lost.
And now this “progressive” movement has won its greatest victory yet: the right to get women sacked for asserting their opinions. Misogyny is hailed as justice, and nothing makes sense any more.”

coatlessinspokane · 20/12/2019 08:31

This is good news. Hats off to JKR. She’s no stranger to controversy so will hopefully be prepared for the vitriol.

The Telegraph article is great, I linked to it here.

The references to staircases and hands is because she said that looking closely at the trans vs feminism argument was like looking at an Escher drawing.

StandUpStraight · 20/12/2019 08:35

Sorry Bovary didn’t see your thread before I posted. I just subscribed to the telegraph this morning to read that article!

MedusasButterDish · 20/12/2019 08:37

I'm a bit torn about that,Ruffle. If TRAs are using T*RFblocker, they don't get a sense of GC numbers, but equally, GC users who have been blocked can't get a sense of TRA numbers, either.

Social media are great for insulating us from one another while a war is brewing....

Very glad, therefore, that this is getting out of the echo chamber and into ordinary people's lives.

BovaryX · 20/12/2019 08:38

It’s really good that they are running that opinion piece. The key issue, the threat to freedom of speech and the misogyny, is being explicitly discussed. Like many others, I have only recently discovered the extent of this lobby’s influence on policies. This has happened without public debate or media scrutiny. It’s way past time for both

Remember if you went by Twitter Clinton would have won the US election there and Remain would have won here. Twitter is a certain demographic, or rather a certain demographic tweets incessantly on these matters and uses hashtags

EnidFromGuernsey · 20/12/2019 08:53

Thanks for bringing this case to my attention! I've now pledged to help with Maya's legal costs. Let's hope it can be successfully appealed.

This attempted thought control by TRAs is getting ridiculous

Magdalen Berns told us to Be More Brave.

Guess JK, journalists and us listened to her.

Bet she'd have bloody loved to see this.
