Maya Big Press Coverage in Mail

BovaryX · 20/12/2019 05:31

Maya’s verdict and JK Rowlings’ Tweet are getting major coverage in the Mail. There is also an accompanying opinion piece by Julie Bindel talking about the vitriolic abuse and intimidation of women who speak out on this issue. The Mail is read by millions, many of whom may have little idea about how this ideology is informing policy and how its proponents are trying to silence debate and compel speech. This coverage is excellent news because this agenda has advanced by stealth. It has no popular support and given the bullying antics of its most vocal supporters? It’s unlikely to gain from publicity

As I know all too well, the temperature on trans issues has a habit of reaching boiling point almost immediately, and is one in which very few people are brave enough to dip their toe

I hope Maya is bearing up. This story has now got actual legs (not "our world vs their world" legs). It's a good, fantastic thing! But I can't imagine anything worse than being the personal centre of a media storm.

refusetobeasheep · 20/12/2019 09:11

So glad this is being picked up in mainstream media. A huge thank you to all the wonderful ladies on here who have been plugging away with minimal media support until now.

koshkat · 20/12/2019 09:30

Nick Ferrari covered this again this morning. SUNLIGHT!

Ereshkigal · 20/12/2019 09:44

It would be interesting to see Maya’s witness statement but I’m not sure if that’s publicly available.

It is. If no one posts a link in the meantime I'll post a bit later.

^Magdalen Berns told us to Be More Brave
Bet she'd have bloody loved to see this^

Vivarium
I googled Magdalen Berns after reading about her on this forum. A brave woman, a nonconformist, a feminist who died so young. What kind of person celebrates the death of a young woman? Reading some of those comments made me furious and it confirms the radioactive misogyny which characterises so much of the rhetoric and actions of this lobby.

That’s a good point. In both The Telegraph and The Mail, the coverage focuses on the threat to freedom of speech and the catastrophic consequences of speaking out. I hope Maya is holding up, her case has amplified this way beyond the narrow confines of Twitter and I am very grateful to her for that alone. Like many of the denizens of this board, I was really shocked by the verdict, but now I think the media coverage alone has its advantages. One tactic of the lobby has been to present opponents as ‘extremists.’ Everyone can see the real extremists now

Yes they can.

I was pretty down after hearing about the result of the tribunal It was such a setback and seemed such a bad decision. However the publicity it has generated is huge and is highlighting the issue. The Times article has over 300 comments the majority of which are supportive.

Well done to the Daily Mail! Smile

I think one of the dangers is that twitter is an echo chamber of in fact a very small number of people.

But for whatever reason (laziness or looking for extreme headlines or .. ) many mainstream journalists use it as thought it were a proper source of news, ie factual reporting.

It is the MSM that in amplifying the tiny % of people on twitter that are distorting the debate / failing to cover it properly.

Wouldn't it be something if say they gave as much credence to spinster posts as though they were a source of actual news.

KatvonHostileExtremist · 21/12/2019 15:40

I hope mark hamill starts his peak journey with the hysterical response to him liking a tweet about biological sex.

They don't forgive Mark.

They might, he's a man and they have different rules.

Stumbled. This is absolutely part of the problem. People like Owen Jones do not merit the moniker ‘journalist’ They require smelling salts to venture North of Watford or South of Victoria and spend their days trawling Twitter and playing its cliches in an endless feedback loop. When was the last time any of these clowns got on a plane and reported from a war zone?

They might, he's a man and they have different rules.

But according to them, biological sex doesn't exist.

Geordie
It’s great that it’s giving this a lot of coverage. I reckon most people really don’t have a clue this lobby even exists

bovary off topic but the reference to Owen Jones reminded me of the excellent laugh this gave me earlier.

I think that’s a dumb move. He’s a raging egotist and will present himself as a victim whilst once more the story is about him. This circle jerk with alleged journalists reporting on what someone said to them on Twitter is one of the reasons I stopped reading OJ’s paper
