If this is true, how many votes may selling women out have cost her?

Yes, he's probably right (eyes up the local conservatives Shock ) What else is going to happen in the next 5 years.

theflushedzebra · 13/12/2019 02:25

With the woke stuff going on, I do find myself nodding with agreement at Conservative Woman articles more and more.

I'm just hoping this election puts an end to the Momentum bollocks and talk of sending people to Gulag fr their opinions Hmm

SingingLily · 13/12/2019 02:26

Although I suspect the Libdem losses are more to do with Brexit.

Not in Chippenham. We voted Leave 52/48, same as the rest of the country.

Helen Belcher and HB's "Choose Change" policy was a change too far for the farmers and Forces folk around here. HB lost vote share in 2017 and - all fingers crossed - I'm hoping will be trounced tonight.

CharlieParley · 13/12/2019 02:27

Jo's opponent said to be looking quite happy indeed. Now that would be quite something wouldn't it?

In all fairness I should add though that in six hours standing outside of local polling stations yesterday, the one thing unionists and independence supporters, Remain and Brexit voters all seemed to agree on was a wholesale rejection of the LibDem plan to revoke Article 50. Loads of people from opposing sides pointing out that that is neither liberal nor democratic.

I don't think Helen B has a hope in hell. SingingLily Thank goodness.

SingingLily · 13/12/2019 02:31

🤞

theflushedzebra · 13/12/2019 02:35

Nor has that Halifax LibDem guy that said Labour were "pandering to Terfs and transphobes" (they're so NOT!) and then acted in faux hock when told "terf" was used as a form of abuse, but did not delete his tweet. Watching Halifax closely - but not a hope in hell.

theflushedzebra · 13/12/2019 02:35

*shock

This maybe a discussion for another day, but just wanted to say that's not quite right but not quite wrong either. What the EU said was that as there is no waiting list to join the EU and Scotland already met all membership conditions, it could apply to join and could do so without delay, but there is no automatically joining the EU.

I always thought Spain would veto Scotland ever joining because of Catalan separatism. If members continue to have a veto like that Scotland could never join.
Also indyref was 55.3% No Vs 44.7% Yes, it wasn't as close as Brexit.

Looks like a Tory majority for the morning, personally I'm just sad it's Boris who benefits as I think he's a vile person but I can't blame Leave constituencies voting the way they seem to have.
I'd be grateful if the posters who are joining the Tory party keep us posted!

paniquer · 13/12/2019 02:58

Spain has been quite clear that they would not block Scotland joining the EU.

Bearing in mind he was sacked for speaking out of turn, I dont think it's that clear cut. Personally I think Yes would get fewer votes in a second indyref, even post Brexit. But that's just my opinion.

paniquer · 13/12/2019 03:10

She looked very strained

paniquer · 13/12/2019 03:21

He was sacked for making the remarks as it was not in his remit. Not for the remarks themselves. Same reason Kim Darroch had to resign. What he said was true but made his position untenable in the White House.

FlyingOink · 13/12/2019 03:25

Bye Jo!

paniquer ok fair enough, I am not convinced Spain won't block it but you seem better informed than me

CharlieParley · 13/12/2019 03:41

The Catalan issue is precisely why Spain wouldn't automatically veto Scotland joining (but as I said membership of EFTA may well be a better option and would circumvent this issue in any case).

Spain (various politicians) stated if Scotland gains its independence by following internal UK rules in doing so, there would be no Spanish veto.

This is of course a decisive blow across the bows of Catalonia, which Spain cares a heck of a lot more about keeping than it does about preserving the UK. That's because Spain has a constitution which imposes conditions on the Catalans gaining independence which make it all but impossible to achieve by any constitutional means and it reinforces that point by saying you can have indy if you follow Spanish rules.

So, if Scotland does it legally, ie by agreement with the UK government, Spain would struggle to justify a veto precisely because of the way it has responded to Catalonia's UDI.

And bear in mind that this was prior to the UK damaging the EU with its Brexit shenanigans. Spain's veto in 2014 was a favour to the UK. The UK has not returned the favour over Gibraltar. Spain is currently well pissed off with the UK, So I wouldn't count on that veto just yet.

Do you think they are delaying to go live after Boris?
