I’m sitting watching a report on sky news about the Tavistock clinic and the impact of identification of trans on children. Finally a mainstream report giving a balanced view.

Out of the 20 psychologists contacted, 6 responded expressing concern with giving children hormonal treatments. news.sky.com/story/nhs-over-diagnosing-children-having-transgender-treatment-former-staff-warn-11875624 Only one clinician agreed to be interviewed and asked for their voice to be changed.

The full report is on sky news another 6 times today.

Sorry for bombarding the thread!

The Marcus Evans interview is here for anyone interested:

Brilliant. Thanks for the link rodgmum. No need to apologise. This thread is for anyone and everyone to comment on. I’ve now block recorded the news and will be watching the interviews with interest.

talking about the child’s future sex life is met with revulsion

I have a real issue with this. Any sniff of such discussion brings out puritanical views on sex and insinuations of paedophilia. Yet meanwhile children are being abused and mutilated seemingly unchecked....

The same goes for young adults attending adult GID clinics - except there is ZERO attempt to find out why they want to transition, no attempt to explore what else is going on in their lives, how their autism may have a bearing on their emotional maturity, their other difficulties, or how transition is or isn't going to alleviate those. Just referral on for hormones.

Shameful.

AnneShirleyBlythe · 12/12/2019 19:34

It's on again now!

ItsNearlyMorning · 12/12/2019 19:40

Sky are really pushing this.
I hope this is the start of some logical discussions and this small minority of people not being able to hound and bully others for not having the same ideals.

People interested in learning more about Stella O Malley and Debbie Hayton should watch Stella's great documentary here:

www.channel4.com/programmes/trans-kids-its-time-to-talk

There's a particularly informative section featuring Debbie's poor wife and family.

NeurotrashWarrior · 12/12/2019 20:35

Sorry (doh) same as in OP.

NeurotrashWarrior · 12/12/2019 20:37

I'm not sure if this segment is on the thread?

This was the interview with the young people.

ItsNearlyMorning · 12/12/2019 20:37

Thanks for that @TinselAngel I will watch that tonight

TinselAngel · 12/12/2019 20:39

It's done more for the cause of trans widows than anything else I can think of ItsNearlyMorning

ItsNearlyMorning · 12/12/2019 20:47

Absolutely @TinselAngel , it's good to be informed fully.
They came across so well on sky but if they have left a family in ruins people should see every aspect before praising them.
Myself included

Mummyoflittledragon · 12/12/2019 21:12

Thanks for the links. I will watch them later.

I hope this is the start of some logical discussions and this small minority of people not being able to hound and bully others for not having the same ideals.
Yes, let’s hope so.

TinselAngel - yes, I can imagine that affects you... I found that bit excruciating if I'm honest - even though I appreciate Debbie's voice in the debate.

The Trans Kids doc was fascinating and balanced. I'll never forget seeing the young Bristol masked TRAS trying to burst into the room that Posie & Venice were in before the event, and then trying to burst into the event itself to set off smoke bombs/set the fire alarms off. And then being dragged out by the police, kicking and screaming. And blocking Heather & Julie Bindel on the stairs. I'm not sure they realise how intimidating they are to women - if they do, their behaviour is unforgivable. Although I understand one of them has since come forward and apologised for their behaviour.

Mummyoflittledragon · 13/12/2019 02:51

I think the average male struggles to conceive just how intimidated women feel simply because they never feel vulnerable on a regular basis. Being mainly young, I expect a lot of TRA’s don’t have the insight or experience to even contemplate this. Perhaps lacking even the empathetic capacity due to age.

It is refreshing to see that one person apologised retrospectively. The police should hang their heads in shame at what happened on the stairs that day.

Thanks for posting - this coverage seems very important. Thanks Sky.

somebrightmorning · 13/12/2019 17:42

Because I am a mother and have seen my children grow in their beautiful bodies and come to terms with their own bodies, I think it's this idea of a child doing harm to their body and the mother being prevented from action that hits me hardest.

ItsNearlyMorning · 13/12/2019 20:43

@TinselAngel thank you for the link to the trans kids documentary.
Poor Debbies wife looks like a person going through a lot of grief in her life.
Very eye opening piece.
I really don't watch tv much at all and I'm grateful to have been able to see this.
Very emotional and informative ( and infuriating) in equal measure.

ChattyLion · 13/12/2019 22:25

Thanks for the link to the Sky News clip Neuro. It’s shocking. Clinicians quoted as saying ‘therapy is not an option in this service’. Children with pre-existing trauma that they knew about, simply being medicated for gender dysphoria without further support.
Awful. When is this going to be investigated by the NHS, the medical regulators, or (ideally) a committee of the new Parliament so that they can put in some new protective legislation to stop gender non conforming children being exposed to this.
