Jo Swinson told to wear a low cut top

Jo Swinson was just on this morning (I'm not a fan but do try and watch /listen to interviews from all parties to make up my own mind).

She was apparently given advice from someone in her OWN PARTY that she should wear a lower cut top to gain votes. Horrendous. She was trying to make a point to Holly about how bad this is, but then just seemed to laugh off the fact it came from someone in her party, that she's supposed to be leading!

She should have simply told her party that she was identifying as a bloke that morning. Problem solved! Smile

SarahTancredi · 10/12/2019 11:06

Something they would only tell a ___

Answers on a post card.

Get it yet Jo?

Glentherednosedbattleostrich · 10/12/2019 11:08

Lib Dems hating women. Who'd have thunked it!

LangCleg · 10/12/2019 11:10

I think we need to concentrate more on the repeated lesbophobia she displayed, frankly. How many times can she accuse lesbians of being as involved in DV and VAWG as men are in one election campaign?

Funny she didn't tell them they weren't welcome in the party like GC women.
She's useless.

TheProdigalKittensReturn · 10/12/2019 11:13

Does she think anyone would ask a certain young Labour Party former women's officer to wear low cut tops to get out the vote? If not, why not?

Anyone who knows Jo irl who's the slightest bit GC must be banging their head against the wall in frustration. There's not quite getting it and then there's actively refusing to do so.

BovaryX · 10/12/2019 11:15

Grin

TheProdigalKittensReturn · 10/12/2019 11:16

Also granted that she was older when she took power, but can you imagine if anyone had been stupid enough to ask Thatcher to flash some cleavage how she'd have reacted? You're supposed to be the leader, Jo. Tell them to go f*cuk themselves.

MockersFactCheckMN · 10/12/2019 11:17

Sounds like just the sort of advice Lord Renard would offer the aspiring young female candidates as he bounced them on his knee.

(Now where was JoJo when all this was going on? ....What's that you say, Sooty? .....She was Minister for Women and Equlaities!!!)

BarbaraStrozzi · 10/12/2019 11:25

Sarah I think I love you. "Answers on a postcard" Grin.

Bluntness100 · 10/12/2019 11:30

but can you imagine if anyone had been stupid enough to ask Thatcher to flash some cleavage how she'd have reacted

Or even Teresa May. I doubt they'd have lasted more than two mins. But you'd have to have been very brave or very stupid to make the comment to either.

The fact even her own party member thinks it's ok to say that to her, shows just how little leadership she commands.

Mishfit0819 · 10/12/2019 11:30

@TheProdigalKittensReturn exactly!

At least she was able to admit she's not going to be PM, I just dread a Bo & Jo coalition come Friday though Xmas Angry Xmas Sad

OP posts:
TheProdigalKittensReturn · 10/12/2019 11:35

Well that's a disturbing thought - the coalition of the smugly woke and the smugly posh.

ThePurported · 10/12/2019 11:45

Never mind Jo. Your cleavage could secretly identify as a pair of moobs, that'll teach them sexist bastards, right?

And Jo, could you please stop comparing lesbian women to men, thanks.

andyoldlabour · 10/12/2019 11:55

Anyone who thinks blokes like myself would be swayed by Jo Swinson wearing a low cut top have no idea.
She simply comes across as someone who doesn't have a clue and her voting record in Parliament is appalling.

Melroses · 10/12/2019 12:05

You're right. I don't think it would help.

Birdsfoottrefoil · 10/12/2019 12:05

It is really worrying who is advising her. Do they think her radio interviews didn’t go well because she didn’t have enough cleavage on show?

TheProdigalKittensReturn · 10/12/2019 12:09

Precisely. Surely a debating coach would be a better investment.

TheProdigalKittensReturn · 10/12/2019 12:10

Or, you know, better policies, but that's just crazy talk.

zanahoria · 10/12/2019 12:14

" I get lots and lots of unsolicited advice,” Swinson says. “I’m not short of people telling me that I should speak differently or wear different shoes or wear different earrings. Or in one case, somebody suggested that I should wear lower cut tops."

“Not in my election team, but as I say, I do get these gems of advice that come to me,”

so just some random comment on twitter

LangCleg · 10/12/2019 12:16

I just dread a Bo & Jo coalition come Friday though

I dread a Jo, Nicola and Jeremy coalition more. What would Jeremy give away in coalition bargaining, I wonder?

Could it be women's rights?

TheProdigalKittensReturn · 10/12/2019 12:17

What would Jeremy give away in coalition bargaining

Honestly? Anything other than his own position at the top or near to it. Don't trust him as far as I could throw him.

RedToothBrush · 10/12/2019 12:31

She laughed it off, instead of making an official complaint about sexism. You know this leading by example shit.

Everyday sexism is a laughing matter rather than something that a party leader should be tackling head on and taking seriously.

The party has a massive sexism problem. Swinson only serves as leader to enable it.

Its been my feeling from the moment her name came up as prospective leader. Some bloke saying "we need to look modern and progress and to appeal to women. Get a northern woman in and we'll have it nailed and all sown up".

The problem is it doesn't work like that. For it to work it has to be a woman, who isn't placed as leader as part of a party's image and pr drive but because they actually stand for feminist issue and a women's agenda. Thats what women are looking for.

It has to be meaningful and more than skin deep.

Don't worry though, its not just the LDs who are playing this game. The next Labour Leader will be female and will do the same, because its all about image rather than substance.

And it will harm female MPs a whole in the process.

RedToothBrush · 10/12/2019 12:32

I'm hoping for all three of them to lose their seats tbh.

I will be very disappointed come friday of course, but until then I can dream.
