Looking for kids letter to Santa and found this

I'm not going mad, am I? This isn't ok, is it?

Amidst the list of Santa letter kits on Amazon this appeared. Either I need to give my head a wobble or things are just continuing to get worse for women. The suggested recipient list included wife, girlfriend, sister, aunt, cousin.

Help me make sense of why I feel so angry about this

Good grief !
Even if it’s intended for an American market where fanny is another word for “butt” (also yuck ) it’s still awful . Now going to look it up as want to read the reviews ........

There are several companies that make these kind of cards. It’s not your thing, it’s not my thing, but someone’s buying them and actually that’s fine. Other people are allowed to find things funny that I dont.

It’s unfortunate they’re showing up on a ‘letters to santa’ search, but that’s the way the internet works ‍🤷🏻‍♀️

& yes, there will be an almost identical card for men. They’re an equally offensive, maximum profit type deal, not a sexist one.

CranberriesChoccy · 23/11/2019 17:36

Does Frankie Boyle write for them?

headshoulderskneesandtoe · 23/11/2019 17:37

@Majorcollywobble I've just reported your post as it shows your name and post code in the amazon screenshot

FlamingoAndJohn · 23/11/2019 17:43

Saying what? Men’s personal grooming is not policed like it is for women.

Artesia · 23/11/2019 18:08

Think this is the worst bit of all. Who the fuck would send that to their aunt. Or sister? The mind truly boggles

TooLateThePhalarope · 23/11/2019 19:09

I took one for the team and viewed their site- there's nothing of comparable offensiveness. Athough I suppose the plethora of "you're a wanker" cards are probably aimed at men.

wafflyversatile · 23/11/2019 19:19

Apart whatever other opinions I have on it I dont understand the joke. Can the pp who said it was funny explain.

If having pubic hair was considered 'naughty' then I guess it would at least work as a joke but it isn't and if you were being flirty you would use a flirty innuendo not 'hairy fanny' which is not sexy.

FlamingoAndJohn · 23/11/2019 19:30

@wafflyversatile yes. Not removing all the hair that nature saw fit to put in your public area is very naughty if you are a women.
Your job is to make sure your vulva is all neat and clean and up to standard.

wafflyversatile · 23/11/2019 19:50

That's what I'm saying it isn't a saucy postcard naughty so I can't even see where the joke bit is but someone said it was funny. Its sexist and probably would be even if hairy fanny was considered saucy postcard material.

To be clear I'm not saying saucy postcard humour is not sexist.

Majorcollywobble · 23/11/2019 21:49

@headshoulderskneesandtoe
Thanks so much !

Hopingtobeamum · 23/11/2019 22:11

@PeterRouseTheFleshofMankind stuff like this doesn't phase or bother me. Appreciate some have different levels of humour. I guess it's because us ladies are meant to be 'perfect' and keep ourselves trimmed and neat and tidy. I say bollocks to that, every woman should do as they dammed well please. There is a plethora of similar cards aimed at men (before anyone pipes up).

I simply take jokes such as this for in the way they're intended. Light hearted humour, it's really no drama.

It shouldn't be in a child domain though

ExchangedCat · 24/11/2019 10:52

I guess I just don't see why it's a joke - it's still based in the idea that women have to conform to a someone else's idea of what they should look like. Isn't it just another way of shaming? Why is it ok to dress that up as humour? It just doesn't make logical sense to me.

Are there? I'm not seeing them? Have you got any examples.

HorseWithNoFucksToGive · 24/11/2019 11:34

I'd like to see examples too.

I'll hold my breath, yeah?

deydododatdodontdeydo · 24/11/2019 11:50

They are crude and, in my opinion, unfunny, but I really don't think it is about policing the grooming habits of women given the rest of the site content, it's just about being as offensive as possible.

Hirsutefirs · 24/11/2019 11:54

I think they’ll be delighted to get complaints from feminists.

Fraggling · 24/11/2019 12:02

Just thought. I can think bollocks and move on as I'm an adult.

What are children supposed to make of this? Amazon is a site that many parents let kids look through when choosing presents etc.

My DD both started puberty at 8.5 so this card will be advising them that it's wrong to have public hair from a very young age. At 10 and 12 they look through Amazon sometimes. No doubt the answer from some posters will be that it's wrong to let children look at Amazon ... Which is getting silly tbh it's a shopping site not a porn site.

I suppose the possible result of going girls possibly sneaking a razor and trying to save their pubes off is something they would be keen on seeing as pubic hair on girls is bad.

They get these messages from enough places ffs do they really need to on a 'letter to Santa' Amazon search?

Hadn't thought of that earlier.

Also waiting for examples of cards telling men that they are disgusting if they have pubic hair.

Hirsutefirs · 24/11/2019 12:14

Re. equivalent cards about men-

Why look for fairness and balance in bad taste jokes?

Fraggling · 24/11/2019 12:20

Because some posters on here have said they have seen cards like that for men and others have said let's see them then.

Is it fair that girls and women are strongly encouraged to remove body hair which takes time and money, and to understand that some/ many people will see them as dirty/ not groomed/ bad if they do not.

Men are not under the impression that their pubic hair must be removed from when they are boys in order to meet expected grooming/ cleanliness standards.

In fact it's not healthy to remove pubes they are there for a reason.

Hirsutefirs · 24/11/2019 12:29

Yes, none of it is fair.

I'm puzzled how the OP found that card on an Amazon or a Google search. I searched "letter to Santa" on Amazon and Google and nothing remotely like this appeared. There were 1000s of results and obviously I can't check all of them but the ones I did check were innocuous letters to Santa

I found the website of the seller searching the description of the card in the OP's picture "alternative awkward christmas cards"

Fraggling · 24/11/2019 13:02

You think op is lying?

TooLateThePhalarope · 24/11/2019 13:22

I'm puzzled how searching "letter to Santa" or "Santa Letter" or similar on Amazon brought up this card.
