Prince Andrew 'let the side down'

Here's a clip from Prince Andrew's interview where he regrets remaining friends with Epstein after his conviction because he let the royal family down. Not a single mention of Epstein's victims and how they were let down.

He also does not recall meeting Virginia Giuffre, despite the photos saying otherwise.

I can't believe he did any interview in the first place, but surely he is digging an even bigger hole for himself here.

I just saw this clip on the news and it's just repugnant - the way he chuckles...

He knows.

Gingerkittykat · 16/11/2019 04:18

He definitely knows.

I don't think he can weather this storm, I think his reputation is irreversibly ruined now. He will never have to face legal consequences for his actions but the public hate him and it doesn't matter how often Fergie tweets about how great he is we all know he is a sexual predator.

Tim Shipman tweeted asking why he's worded his denial in a way that is usually taken to be a tacit admission that you did it, but aren't going to say so directly. I had thought the same.

My guess is that he's aware there is other evidence out there, and wants to avoid the outright lie in case it surfaces. But the damage will be done now in most people's eyes. Lots of tweets in reply pointing out the photograph of him with her.

Powergower · 16/11/2019 05:07

He's vile. Nothing he says will make any difference. Even after epstein was convicted he was enjoying free jaunts to meet him. Disguising and shameful that he escaped justice.

GiveHerHellFromUs · 16/11/2019 05:10

I have no idea why he did the interview because he's just made it even more obvious.

On BBC news last night the palace had denied all the claims but only 'strongly denied' the orgy.

zanahoria · 16/11/2019 07:04

I hope Emily asks him if he considers himself a fit and proper person to work with children's charities.

God, the chuckle, followed by the apology for "letting the side down" - just stomach churning.

Agree that is incredibly carefully phrased -"I have no recollection of" my arse.

ballsdeep · 16/11/2019 07:37

I haven't seen /read the interview but he makes my skin crawl. With two young daughters himself and he definitely knew what was going on.

Milanimilani · 16/11/2019 07:43

He’s only doing this because he has been told to. I guess he got shouted at because he got caught, rather than because he did it.

TheOnlyLivingBoyInNewCross · 16/11/2019 07:50

Can anyone explain what he thinks he means by saying that staying with Epstein was the "honourable thing to do"? I don't understand the way he's interpreting honour there Confused

And then when he said that that was his problem - he was too honourable Hmm What a crock of shit.

HotCrossPun1 · 16/11/2019 07:55

I just can’t understand why the police aren’t doing more to investigate all of this including Epstein’s death which seems to have raised questions. Or maybe they are 🤷‍♀️ but everything about this seems to be left hanging.

lilypoppet · 16/11/2019 07:59

Just in case more solid evidence emerges, he has to say "l have no recollection". Also, the photograph is damming. He is.lying. He knows what he did.

HotCrossPun1 · 16/11/2019 08:02

Whether he has recollection or not...the photograph is as lily says damming.

Is the photo mentioned in the interview does anyone know? How does he explain that away?

Coldwatershock · 16/11/2019 08:07

The royal family are immune; he is not going to subject to the usual scrutiny and process, and will get away with this. His public role is relatively minor, and he will continue to benefit financially from his status. It's outrageous. (I'm a republican and this just shows how the normal rules don't apply, as per Prince Charles' political meddling)...

SophoclesTheFox · 16/11/2019 08:14

“Let the side down”, FFS.

That’s not quite how I would describe hanging out with a convicted sex offender (they stayed friends after Epstein’s 2008 conviction for paying a 14 year old girl to be allowed to rape her) and his stable of exploited young women and girls.

Honour, for actual fucks sake. He thought it was honourable to back his sex offender friend. You only think that if you yourself don’t think there’s anything wrong with what Epstein did.

Sick.

atankofskunks · 16/11/2019 08:18

Just watched it too and it turned my stomach. He would have been better off not doing the interview at all. He comes across like a total sleaze and I agree 100% that he is guilty as charged. Not that he ever will be. The best bet now for the royals is to distance themselves from him completely.

HotCrossPun1 · 16/11/2019 08:27

Are royals really above the law? It’s outrageous if it’s true.

Windygate · 16/11/2019 08:46

The Queen and Prince Philip have produced four very disfunctional children. I can't see the Royal Family surviving in its current set up once the Queen has died.

OutwiththeOutCrowd · 16/11/2019 08:49

Even if he is telling the truth and has no recollection of the girl in question, the lack of an outright denial suggests that he feels he can't deny that his lifestyle around that time means that there is at least a possibility that the girl's story is true.

In the circumstances his response was probably the least damning answer he could muster.

The careful phrasing and 'honest Joe' good eye contact stare - perhaps practised in the mirror - reminded me of Bill Clinton and his infamous 'I did not have sexual relations with that woman' moment.

pinkprosseco · 16/11/2019 08:52

If Prince Andrew wants to set the record straight there's a way of doing this, called the criminal justice system.
He should not be abusing his privileged position to access national media to circumvent a proper investigation. Not many other people have this opportunity.
He should face justice like anyone else.

MockersthefeMANist · 16/11/2019 09:27

The word is he'd be toast but no one dares raising it with Queenie, so he hangs on.

Anyway, so many trafficked girls in Maxwell's flat, he can't be expected to remember them all.

SophoclesTheFox · 16/11/2019 09:59

Exactly what I thought, mockers

There’s an obvious end to the sentence “I have no recollection of that”...and that is “because, honestly, it happened so often, I can’t possibly remember any one specific young woman I used my power and position to exploit”.

Terfnserf · 16/11/2019 10:00

I think he is an odious little creep but that photo does look odd, as if they were both in different locations when it was taken.

koshkat · 16/11/2019 10:14

He actually makes my skin crawl. And the way he laughs...WTAF? There is much more to come and he is trying to get ahead of it through this interview where he cannot even deny it convincingly.

Sickening example of arrogance, privilege and entitlement to whatever he wants.
