Please access the podcast on the Fair Cop website - right hand corner menu has podcasts - I’m having a little trouble with the link . Sarah and Anna explain the significance of the JR and how unusual it is to be granted one . So someone, somewhere can see this is important to our democracy . Also clear that the JR is costing around 200k - please donate if you see this as our major chance to turn this around .
Enjoy the podcast , it’s calm and professional . Also it is fascinating .

Already contributed 😊

Thanks! I am glad you found it useful - link is hopefullly here www.faircop.org.uk/podcasts

Really pleased to see a lot of people now seem to be waking up to just how significant this is - goes far beyond the whole trans debate, but of course is encapsulated by it.

Halfway through.

This is an excellent podcast for anyone who wants to understand the general nature of a judicial review and the specifics of the Fair Cop case.

Thanks for drawing my attention, OP!

People really need to understand the nitty gritty of what's happening.

OhHolyJesus · 07/11/2019 13:34

Will have a listen later. Thanks for posting.

BouquetOfRoses · 07/11/2019 13:40

I'm on the podcast page on their website (on iPhone) but cannot see the link to actually listen to the podcast?

Uncompromisingwoman · 07/11/2019 13:41

Out of all the legal cases happening this is the most critical. If the police continue with their current bias - enforcing the beliefs of a tiny group on everyone else, acting as a private enforcement arm for lobby groups, insisting that people use compelled speech and intimidating the population with threats of convictions for expressing opinions and facts, then we may as well all pack up and go home. Really hoping that the fund raising picks up.

LangCleg · 07/11/2019 13:47

Really hoping that the fund raising picks up.

Total costs upwards of £200k. We're so lucky that people are giving time for little or no cost and that Harry is prepared to underwrite the rest.

I'd suggest everyone give up 45 minutes of their time to understand just how wide the ramifications are.

AlwaysTawnyOwl · 07/11/2019 13:58

Thanks have contributed and will try to be there on the 20th

LoveCompost · 07/11/2019 14:01

Just finished listening. It's really well explained and very important for everyone to understand whatever your views on certain subjects.

GrinitchSpinach · 07/11/2019 17:17

Great to hear you out loud, Sarah! Thank you for the reminder to dig with my little spade a bit, and for the clear explanation of judicial review.

All the best to you & your colleagues. This is so important.

WorkingItOutAsIGo · 07/11/2019 17:21

What is the timing on the 20th? I might be able to come along to the RCJ to lend support.

Spero · 07/11/2019 19:04

Plans for 20th is to meet at Temple Tube about 9am I think for 9.30 meet at RCJ. If its really crowded we will work out some rota for people who want to be in the court, hopefully some will be happy to wave a placard outside! Then we have a nearby venue for drinks and nibbles from about 4pm with some short speeches.

glad the podcast was informative! It was great fun, I wish I could give up my day job and just podcast all day long.

CriticalCondition · 07/11/2019 19:15

I've just listened. It is excellent

A very clear explanation of how this case will not be a judgement on trans issues but on whether the police were lawful, rational and reasonable in the way they acted.

Because this is a democracy and it matters for everyone, trans or not, that the police should not be able to 'make it up as they go along.'

CaptainKirksSpikeyGhost · 07/11/2019 20:25

Thanks for all the work you’re putting into this, and the reminder Brew

Siameasy · 07/11/2019 21:42

Just watched the Julia Long video.

Outrageous.

I think for police officers one of the hardest things is that sometimes situations arise which are a civil matter (this was one, based on that video) and there is pressure from the public (in this case a big company, Accenture) to act. However, officers must be resilient, have integrity and knowledge of the law enough to say “we have no powers here and cannot act”.
It’s a huge ego dent for officers to admit they “have no powers”.

Similarly with reported incidents “yes that’s upsetting for you but it’s not a crime to be upset”. And it should end there.

My 10 cents

LangCleg · 07/11/2019 22:24

glad the podcast was informative!

Spero - it was really, really, really good. Do more!
