M&S men's changing rooms this weekend?

Anyone fancy trying on some bras in the men's changing rooms this weekend?

M&S have invited all customers to use whatever changing room they 'feel most comfortable using'.

I think I will find it most comfortable to try bras on in the men's changing rooms this weekend. I may talk loudly about 'lady things' and do normal stuff like ask panicking men which one looks best.

Anyone else up for this?

I'm in the Surrey/Hampshire area. Maybe we can form some little groups...?

I love this idea! Perhaps we could have a 'desire' for men to catch us naked, so don't forget to thank the assistant for helping with your sexual fantasy!
Not sure I can get into an M and S this weekend though.

wheresmymojo · 06/11/2019 17:39

Well I will promise to do it this weekend whether with others or alone and report back!

Was hoping to rope others in for a snicker about it over coffee in the cafe beforehand Grin

Great idea. I'm in and will do so in my neck of the woods on Sunday. I wonder if StickerWoman and her helpers will be paying any visits to M&S over the coming weeks Grin.

wheresmymojo · 06/11/2019 17:40

Might look a bit mad talking about lady things to myself but I can pop out in my bra and ask the male attendant to get me a different bra size verrrrry loudly.

I will link to the Twitter post that inspired this (will totally out me as I commented on the thread but meh - I'm not that interesting!)

You will probably be asked to move. I was in M&S today and heard the changing room assistant ask a woman to come out of the men’s side changing rooms because a man was waiting to try something on (not sure if there was a cubicle free on the women’s side when she turned up) The assistant said she had to ask because there was a man using the woman’s cubicles at the weekend and all the women were up in arms about it.

Guessing that it was just a man using an empty cubicle rather than a man identifying as a woman using a woman’s cubicle.

wheresmymojo · 06/11/2019 17:58

I will remind them of their own policy (and then get head office to clarify).

I'm personally not bothered about sharing spaces with trans-women but feel that M&S have gone waaaaaaay beyond that to say anyone can use whichever changing room they feel most comfortable in. Which is bonkers IMO.

sorry, have you not all been banging on for days about the horror of a man being in your changing rooms as you wouldn’t feel comfortable trying on underwear etc?

how on earth is trying on bras in the men’s fitting rooms the best way to protest this?

genuinely confused.

pictish · 06/11/2019 18:08

Good point exwife - yes, how do you square that circle?

lydiamajora · 06/11/2019 18:10

That's the point, beginsagain - women complaining can be safely ignored (apparently), but men complaining actually get listened to.

TheCountessofFitzdotterel · 06/11/2019 18:13

Umm...because not everybody is the same and feminists fight for the rights of all women not just themselves?
I personally have had a horrible experience in a unisex changing room and am not about to volunteer to go to the men's. But if other women are willing and able to protest that way I am grateful to them and wish them luck.

wheresmymojo · 06/11/2019 18:19

I'm pretty sure a lot of protesting involves doing things you wouldn't otherwise choose for yourself.

Ooh look one of those phrases that make my teeth itch Envy

This is just a further nail in the coffin for the high street. Women will choose to avoid changing rooms altogether and just order online and try on in the safety of their own homes.

pictish · 06/11/2019 18:24

Choosing to do something you otherwise wouldn’t isn’t the point though is it?

It’s the illogical nature of protesting men being in the ladies’ changing room making you feel uncomfortable and unsafe...by going into the men’s’ changing room to try on underwear. It’s stupid.

wheresmymojo · 06/11/2019 18:25

I don't think...for example that the suffragettes were totally up for throwing themselves in front of horses or force feeding of a normal Sunday.

This is a form of protest, it's my personal choice to do this to bring attention to the issue. I will be talking to the attendant about bra sizes, etc so I'm not in a vulnerable position.

I'm assuming none of the men in there will be randomly fully prepared and able to put a camera under the door (would be quite a coincidence).

For other women who have men (who could be sex offenders) walk into the changing rooms it is not their choice, they are not prepared, there may be no attendant or other people around, those men may be entering expressly to put cameras under the doors or for other purposes.

The point is that when men are inconvenienced and complain companies tend to listen.

When women do it we are called difficult and ignored.

Dangerfloof · 06/11/2019 18:27

Said it before, am in Leeds am feisty and up for baring all in the mens.
If this makes m and s change their bloody mind then fab, if not I will hasten the end by telling all very loudly whats going on.

pictish · 06/11/2019 18:31

I agree. But sorry, it’s a daft idea because it flies in the face of what you’re trying to convey. No one will take you seriously.

getoutofthatgarden202 · 06/11/2019 18:31

Yeah the men would hate that.... 🙄

They wouldn't give a shit - do that if you want ! But it will prove literally nothing!

The queues were too big the other day while I waited to use the girls toilet at a pub so i said fuck this and went in the men's - nobody cared,

I was bloody delighted to queue skip tbh! - do you think I shouldn't have done that?

This fight is ridiculous tbh - most people are gonna use the right changing room - it's a public place with loads of people around - do you seriously think someone looking to attack woman or something is gonna do it in a marks and Spencer?? Lols 😆 Il

aliasundercover · 06/11/2019 18:33

Yes.

Thanks wheresmymojo, you’re brave. That’s proper brave rather than ‘stunning and brave’.

CriticalCondition · 06/11/2019 18:44

It’s the illogical nature of protesting men being in the ladies’ changing room making you feel uncomfortable and unsafe...by going into the men’s’ changing room to try on underwear. It’s stupid.

It's not illogical.

It's the men who are 'insistent' on using the women's changing rooms that M&S allow in there. They've told me so, personally. They are exactly the kind of men I don't want to get undressed next to.

The men in the men's changing room are the non-insistent kind.

Seeing as M&S are giving me the choice I know which I prefer.

Stayawayfromitsmouth · 06/11/2019 18:48

Maybe just burn some bras in the changing rooms instead? Grin

joolzfromyork · 06/11/2019 18:51

@exWifebeginsAgainat46

how on earth is trying on bras in the men’s fitting rooms the best way to protest this?

In short ... it isn't

But if people want to encourage M&S to change their ways

I think it might be surprisingly easy ...

Take a look at M&S online
pick out something nice that costs at least £50
(S'alright, you're gonna get your money back)
Have it delivered (Over £50 = Free Delivery)
Open the goods
re-wrap the goods
Fill in returns form (making sure to explain you ordered online because you didn't fancy sharing a changing room with men)
Send goods back
Claim refund

Rinse & repeat (until M&S either see sense or Ban you from their online site)

Trying on a Bra may seem like a 'wizard wheeze' but when the reasonable men have left the room there will remain a couple of sleazebags guys with folded arms leering at you ...

at this point you may feel that perhaps that idea wasn't one of the best...

M&S Will change their mind when a few thousand women are costing them money ...
