M&S men's changing rooms this weekend?

wheresmymojo · 06/11/2019 17:29

Anyone fancy trying on some bras in the men's changing rooms this weekend?

M&S have invited all customers to use whatever changing room they 'feel most comfortable using'.

I think I will find it most comfortable to try bras on in the men's changing rooms this weekend. I may talk loudly about 'lady things' and do normal stuff like ask panicking men which one looks best.

Anyone else up for this?

I'm in the Surrey/Hampshire area. Maybe we can form some little groups...?

Has everyone forgotten about Man Friday?!

The press didn't know how to tackle Self ID and were largely ignoring it until some MNers (mostly) called themselves Man Friday, identified as men and invaded Hampstead Health Men's Pond.

When males had invaded the women's the women had been told to STFU.

When the women invaded the men's, the police were called, and it hit the news.

(There is a mixed pond that's perfectly adequate there, the TW didn't need to be in the women's).

This story opened the floodgates for the press reporting on Self ID.

Invading the men's is a perfectly legitimate protest!

And, as posters have said above, it's largely as men can't see what the problem is until it affects them.

Redshoeblueshoe · 06/11/2019 23:34

Placemarking I'm more than happy to go into the men's changing rooms.

Redshoeblueshoe · 06/11/2019 23:35

Men are soooo happy to give our spaces away. Not prepared to give their own away

Destinysdaughter, that is brilliant!

Horrible, but also brilliant!

Datun · 07/11/2019 02:49

I can't this weekend, but I will absolutely be doing this.

And I shall inform the assistants that the CEO has said that men can change wherever they 'feel most comfortable'. And will show them the email to prove it. As, of course, can women. And I will tell them where I feel most comfortable is in the men's, because marks & Spencer's policy is to allow men, who absolutely insist, go in the women's. And I do not want to be in the women's if insistent, bullying men can enter at any moment. I mean, how uncomfortable is that?!

And, of course, as a means of protest, it's been proven to be exceptionally effective. Which is why it's so interesting when people go way out of their way to tell you not to do it, because it won't work. 🤣

sashh · 07/11/2019 03:50

Can I point out you don't need to try bras on if you join this protest, you could try on shoes or a coat or just sit there.

Or just leave loads of women's clothes in the changing rooms. And if you have a print out of an email with the signature of the chairman - well who are the shop floor assistants to override that?

sashh · 07/11/2019 03:53

Wow I literally just clicked on to twitter and @ChiefBrody19 has done exactly what you are planning OP

TimeLady · 07/11/2019 06:10

Great idea about taking a copy of the email from HO.

If it doesn't say Men's fitting rooms on the signage in store, the bit about how you identify yourself is nonsense anyway.

BuzzShitbagBobbly · 07/11/2019 06:14

Fuckit. I am travelling this weekend or I would so so up for this!

Make sure to take printouts of the policy so you can wave them at complainers. Perhaps also something to give the men to pass to female relatives?

BuzzShitbagBobbly · 07/11/2019 06:16

...They wouldn't give a shit - do that if you want ! But it will prove literally nothing!....

Etc

That's a lot of words just to tell someone nobody cares. Why even bother posting if it is so irrelevant?

AlwaysColdHands · 07/11/2019 07:02

@joolzfromyork
Great idea, I shall make some repeated M & S orders over the next few weeks to do this

peachescariad · 14/11/2019 15:48

joolzfromyork - love it! 'add to basket' happy atm Grin

NamechangeWhatFor · 14/11/2019 15:56

This was a week ago. How did it go @wheresmymojo?

Adogwithabone · 14/11/2019 16:13

Will definitely be doing this!

slipperywhensparticus · 14/11/2019 16:27

Great idea while all the perverts use the ladies we can use the mens because only men who have no interest in spying or emulating women will be in there just regular men trying on shirts or whatever it is they do

mollymandyandypandy · 14/11/2019 16:52

I've been into my local M&S this week and went into all the changing rooms no problem. Results are below but I also spoke to the assistant on Lingerie. I asked if anyone can use any changing room and if men can use the womens. She looked shocked and said that men aren't allowed in the womens or the lingerie. The mens changing room can be used by women and children (there are no changing facilities in the childrens area). She said they never put a man on the womens and check who is going into the changing rooms. In a quiet voice she did say that if a man came in dressed as a woman they have to let them into the changing rooms but she didn't agree with it. I really felt that whilst M&S are saying this is policy, there are shop floor staff like this lady who are policing it which I think is unfair. They are also putting their staff in an uncomfortable position by insisting men dressed as women can use the lingerie changing room and presumably get measured. That said given the press they've had I would like to see what would happen if a man came in and made a fuss about getting into the womens/lingerie.

Mens - no staff member at the door. Cubicles with lockable door, from floor to about 2.5m, approx 15cm gap under door. Large disabled changing area with curtain.
Womens - lady staff member checking all who were going in. Cubicles with lockable door, from floor to about 2.5m, approx 5 cm gap under door. Large disabled changing area with curtain.
Lingerie - 2 lady staff members were there when I went in but none when I came out. Cubicles with lockable door, from floor to about 2.5m, approx 15cm gap under door. Large disabled changing area with curtain.

Thethiniceofanewday · 14/11/2019 23:35

For the PP who said “who’s ever going to get assaulted in M&S” - this lady was assaulted in the loos.

www.strayfm.com/news/local-news/2641960/man-jailed-after-sexual-assaulting-disabled-woman-in-harrogate-ms/

If you do a search for ‘man exposes himself m&s’ there’s a truly heinous number of results including one manager who regularly flashed the staff.

WrathofSIxFootSlxEIf · 14/11/2019 23:41

If I had a 'Call me Bubbles suit' from Little Britain I would use that.

youkiddingme · 15/11/2019 05:39

I am in awe of you brave women and can't wait for your feedback!

Jeanhatchet · 15/11/2019 06:01

I did this last weekend. In both Marks and Spencer and John Lewis.

In Marks and Spencer I went to the men's and asked if I could try on my bras and the assistant said "unfortunately not". When I said I was a man "oh ok then" when I queried whether he knew the difference between a man and a woman he said "I haven't had the training yet"

The. Training.

FairyBatman · 15/11/2019 10:21

I went on Saturday, meant to take some photos but forgot. I asked if O could try underwear on and they said very sorry but no. I said I identify as a man today and the lovely lady gave me a double thumbs up and waved me in. Unfortunately there was no-one there, but I know it will get raised
at their commercial meeting.

Have just ordered half a dozen bras online to return, and will try the changing rooms again either this week-end or next, whenever I take the bras back.

NamechangeWhatFor · 15/11/2019 11:55

@Jeanhatchet I think I read your thread on Twitter, it was brilliant.
Love the double thumbs up, the staff get it.

SuperSleepyBaby · 15/11/2019 13:16

Do female staff have to help men with bra fittings if requested?

I would not be comfortable if I had to do this - feeling I was being forced to be very close to a man in a closed cubicle as part of my job when I didn’t sign up for anything like that when I took the job.
