www.cambridge-news.co.uk/news/cambridge-news/how-to-spot-terf-feminism-17183102

CambridgeshireLive seems to have been made aware of the CUSU guide www.mumsnet.com/Talk/womens_rights/3546628-Cambridge-Students-Union-Womens-Campaign-How-to-Spot-T-f-Ideology.

This form of feminism excludes transgender people

Do you know what a T* looks like and how to spot one?

Cambridge’s University Student’s Union (CUSU) has published a guide to spot T Excl Radical Feminists (T**) and their ideologies. But why, and who are they?

Transgender issues have been a hot media topic in 2019, and with it came a rise in hate crimes. In 2019 in Cambridgeshire alone, transphobic hate crimes have risen by 271% since 2015.

The guide is to ensure movements in the University are safe and inclusive for everyone - and has full endorsement from the Cambridge University Graduate Union executive committee as a stance of trans solidarity.

CUSU’s guide was written with the collaboration of the CUSU Women’s Campaign and the CUSU LGBTQ+ group in the hope to call out and combat risky arguments that can lead to real endangerment for transgender and non-binary people.

So arguments are risky now..... Hmm

Can I post the Emma Thompson Footlights College picture from The Young Ones yet, or is that too risky?

Well they can fuck off and then fuck off some more.

I wonder if they'd tell REAL women and victims of male violence that they were bigots for not wanting a man in their segregated spaces.
I am seething at this.

Wheat2Harvest · 02/11/2019 13:45

From the first article: "In 2019 in Cambridgeshire alone, transphobic hate crimes have risen by 271 per cent since 2015."

Given that just about everything other than total unwavering and unquestioning acceptance of everything trans-related falls into the 'transphobic' category, I can't say I'm surprised.

Incidentally, some minority groups have been remarkably successful in hijacking the word phobia (fear of). 'Phobic' in this context now means anyone who questions or disagrees with.

The real 'transphobics', ironically, are the very companies and organisations who are so scared of not being seen as inclusive to 'trans' that they withdraw ads from MN or allow biological males into female toilets and changing areas.

CigarsofthePharoahs · 02/11/2019 13:48

And yet any actual violence against trans people is committed by..
Men!
But somehow we hurt them merely by existing.

Interesting that you chose

you could have chosen ...

I will say I’m at least pleased they said sex is biologically determined at birth!

JellySlice · 02/11/2019 14:01

In 2019 in Cambridgeshire alone, transphobic hate crimes have risen by 271% since 2015.

Depends on what you define as a hate crime. Not only is "I don't believe in what you believe" not a hate crime, it is a position protected in law, just as the belief in transgenderism is protected in law.

or ...

The guide is to ensure movements in the University are safe and inclusive for everyone

Given that over 95% of violence is committed by males, the way to ensure safety and inclusivity for everyone is by addressing make violence, not by suppressing freedom of speech and expression.

or ...

This form of feminism excludes transgender people

How so? Transmen are included in feminism.

or ...

CUSU’s guide was written with the collaboration of the CUSU Women’s Campaign and the CUSU LGBTQ+ group

Groups that share the same faith position, with no reference to other groups, nor consultation with other groups to try and move forward together.

or ...

that can lead to real endangerment for transgender and non-binary people.

I refer you to my point about the perpetrators of the vast majority of violence. Differences of opinion are not endangerment.

What constitutes a hate crime? Are they verbal and/or physical crimes? Are these crimes committed by the same individuals against the same individuals or are they all unrelated. This is a genuine question if anyone else is able to shed any light. I'm certainly not condoning hate of any form I'm just trying to get a sense of what hate crime statistics mean.

NorthernNic · 02/11/2019 15:06

Sorry, I see Jellyslice has already put the question out there.

Whatwouldbigfatfannydo · 02/11/2019 15:24

@NorthernNic

I'm just trying to get a sense of what hate crime statistics mean

Unfortunately crime statistics no longer mean anything at all.
The violent and sexualised crimes of men are being recorded as those of women thanks to the delusion that their "feelings" make them female.
Women standing their ground to preserve their right to be safe from potentially harmhul men is also now a 'hate crime'.
Ergo, nothing has any meaning anymore.

vesuvia · 02/11/2019 15:25

I've read the CUSU guide. It is a load of rubbish and an example of reversal of reality. For example, they claim that children taking hormones and having surgery are myths invented by T**Fs. But it is CUSU's claim of these treatments being myths that is without truth. CUSU's claim transphobically denies the experience of some transgender children. CUSU's claim is also very off-message, because the dominant view in transgender activism is that children do sometimes take hormones and do have surgery and these things should become widespread and routine.

Children are taking cross-sex hormones e.g. at age 16 in the Netherlands.
(Information about lower age limits in European Union countries for "transgender hormone therapy ... to align their secondary sexual characteristics with their gender identity": fra.europa.eu/en/publication/2017/mapping-minimum-age-requirements/transgender-hormone-therapy )

Many children do not take cross-sex hormones yet but they are already on puberty blockers, which are used as pathway drugs to later cross-sex hormone use.

Children are having surgery. Examples include Jackie Green (the child of Susie Green of Mermaids) and Kim Petras (a German singer).

Icantreachthepretzels · 02/11/2019 15:26

or ...

The guide is to ensure movements in the University are safe and inclusive for everyone

...unless of course you're a woman who understands what biological sex is and believes in supporting and protecting women's sex based rights, including the right to sex segregated spaces and the right to assemble without men present (or their permission to do so).

If you're part of that group then, rather than being in a 'safe and inclusive' environment, then you are in environment where there is an actual book out on how to spot you. I can't imagine young gender critical women, probably away from home for the first time, feel very safe and included by this witch hunt publication.

ShesDressedInBlackAgain · 02/11/2019 16:09

How is it 'interesting' that someone who didn't agree with something highlighted the bit of it that sounded stupid and dangerous and not the other bits?

Is that where we are now? People who disagree aren't allowed to dissect an argument?

I'm really looking forward to PMQs with this new form of debate. 'I like this bit of your manifesto', 'thanks, there is some dodgy shit in there but luckily no-one's holding us to account!'.

Whatsnewpussyhat · 02/11/2019 16:13

In 2019 in Cambridgeshire alone, transphobic hate crimes have risen by 271% since 2015.

Can't make rhyme or reason of this.

Statistics from FOIs show 25 hate crimes in 2018/19, crime stats show 32.

For 2014/15 it was 7, for 2015/16 it was 8.

The actual increases, taking these numbers are

7-25 = 257%
7-32 = 357%
8-25 = 212%
8-32 = 300%

So the maths seems wonky to me.

As there is no hate crime without a crime, these are actual crimes committed against people who identify as trans that the police has registered as being motivated by transphobia.

Bringing up this issue in an article about radical feminist and gender critical objections to transgender ideology at the very least subtly implies but in my opinion clearly creates a causal relation between arguing against transgender ideology and legislation and the increase in actual crimes committed against people who identify as trans.

However, it is highly unlikely that the people committing these crimes are motivated by the feminist class-based analysis of the oppression of females by males and the need for females to be protected from male violence, which is of course at the root of our objections.

That's why I give no credence to this statistic being used appropriately in this article and not merely as propaganda.

This is old news, isn't it? I thought the guide came out ages ago - I'm sure I remember a thread about it.

TheProdigalKittensReturn · 02/11/2019 20:08

Speaking of privilege, because I know the guide will, how many "T*RFS" went to Oxford or Cambridge?

StrangeLookingParasite · 02/11/2019 20:11

transphobic hate crimes have risen by 271% since 2015.

Wow, that sounds really terrrible. Until I start asking 'what is a hate crime?' 'What constitutes a hate crime'?

They looked at me the wrong way, they used the wrong pronouns, they didn't agree with my every thought, word and deed.
