www.cambridge-news.co.uk/news/cambridge-news/how-to-spot-terf-feminism-17183102

CambridgeshireLive seems to have been made aware of the CUSU guide www.mumsnet.com/Talk/womens_rights/3546628-Cambridge-Students-Union-Womens-Campaign-How-to-Spot-T-f-Ideology.

This form of feminism excludes transgender people

Do you know what a T* looks like and how to spot one?

Cambridge’s University Student’s Union (CUSU) has published a guide to spot T Excl Radical Feminists (T**) and their ideologies. But why, and who are they?

Transgender issues have been a hot media topic in 2019, and with it came a rise in hate crimes. In 2019 in Cambridgeshire alone, transphobic hate crimes have risen by 271% since 2015.

The guide is to ensure movements in the University are safe and inclusive for everyone - and has full endorsement from the Cambridge University Graduate Union executive committee as a stance of trans solidarity.

CUSU’s guide was written with the collaboration of the CUSU Women’s Campaign and the CUSU LGBTQ+ group in the hope to call out and combat risky arguments that can lead to real endangerment for transgender and non-binary people.

So arguments are risky now..... Hmm

Mentioning trans people is a hate crime, and so is failing to mention them.

MoobaaMoobaa · 02/11/2019 20:21

Nice. So they have published their equivalent of the The Discovery of Witches.

How can no body at Cambridge pull them up on what they are doing?

TheProdigalKittensReturn · 02/11/2019 20:23

They'll be checking us for extra nipples next.

CranberriesChoccy · 02/11/2019 20:50

@StrangeLookingParasite

Mentioning the penises constitutes high treason.

andyoldlabour · 02/11/2019 20:53

You have to ask - what is a hate crime?
To be a crime, has it got to be reported or investigated?
Is a hate crime - receiving a "dodgy" look from someone, misgendering because you really do not look like the gender you say you represent?
Is it because you have reported a sticker on a bus shelter saying - "Woman = Human Female"?
Is it because as a male bodied person, you have invaded a female place, such as a changing room and disrobed deliberately, revealing your obvious male body, and then been asked to leave because a human female has complained about you?
I suspect that many of the above are counted as "Hate" crimes.

When I was at Cambridge in the early 2000s, the CUSU Women's Group took a minibus to London, to (playfully!) protest the Miss World competition. We were on the front page of the Metro, in sashes and feather boas and fake tiaras. It felt very much like a safe space for women.

So sad that it has come to this. Championing the needs of transwomen naturally causes conflict with the needs of non transwomen, especially those women who belong to certain religions. How is that feminism?

FrackOff · 02/11/2019 21:13

'Children' in the uk don't qualify for surgery.
I agree it's not transphobia though. It's not phobia. It's just stereotyping, hatred and prejudice.

Whatwouldbigfatfannydo · 03/11/2019 08:48

@FrackOff

It's just stereotyping, hatred and prejudice.

Women refusing to centre men in feminsm isn't any of the things you accuse us of. Feminism is inclusive of all biological women, including those who identify as men so not trans exclusionary at all, only exclusionary of men (and for good reason).

There is no hatred or prejudice in biological fact.

Although, I daresay, Karen White had hatred for the vulnerable women and children he sexually assaulted (a convicted paedophile and on remand for grievous bodily harm, burglary, multiple rapes and other sexual offences against women quote from the guardian).
Do you not have any hatred for him?! Or is he undeserving of that because he is has a dick but wears a bad wig and make-up?

Ironic that you say stereotyping though. This is exactly what men are doing when 'identifying as women'. Their only experience of womanhood is their observance of the stereotypical female tropes, they have no idea what womanhood actually entails so they resort to a mansplained parody which is bastardised beyond recognition (see Lily Madigan, Rachael McKinnon and Jessica Yaniv for more very clear examples of this).

You really should think before you attempt to preach anything. But points for an attempt at a witty post Biscuit

FrackOff · 03/11/2019 08:53

Bla bla bla biology, bla bla bla one bad person representing a whole class

The biology supports the range of sex expressions.

Karen White is a terrible person, but doesn't represent trans people just as Baby P's mum doesnt represent mothers

MockersthefeMANist · 03/11/2019 09:07

What is a hate-crime?

It is not a specific offence. A hate-crime is any other crime that would still be a crime even if it wasn't a hate-crime, in which the expressed hate is an aggravating factor.

This is not to be confused with a 'hate incident' which is absolutely anything absolutely anyone says it is, and which must be accepted as such even in the absence of any evidence.

Muststopfaffing · 03/11/2019 09:13

Frack
You undermine anyone taking your point seriously by the use of bla bla bla. It’s almost as though you’re not interested in a coherent, evidence based discussion of your point of view but are here to troll instead. Hmm

Whatwouldbigfatfannydo · 03/11/2019 09:15

@FrackOff

Quite, therein lies the issue. You cherry picked which bits to answer (judging by your reply, I assume you had no retort for the rest). Reasonable arguments are silenced through attempted ridicule. It says much more about you than me (and the women who agree with feminism being about females). I wonder if you'd give such an insulting, disparaging answer to victims of male violence?

Karen White perfectly demonstrates the consequences of men accessing women's spaces. A single woman who suffers due to the woke brigade's appeasement of these delusions is one too many. Men already rape and kill women without access being made even easier.

I also think you'll find it's far more than one bad person. Men kill women at an average of 2-3 per week.

No, she doesn't represent all mothers, but the difference here is that particular case resulted in legislation, policy and practice changes which meant babies have more protection from unfit parents. People were held responsible and punished.
Even after Karen White sexually assaulted 2 female inmates, men continue to be given unfettered access to sex segregated spaces and women's facilities are being actively removed in order to accommodate men. This is placing even more women at risk.

Your comparison is irrelevant here as is your wharaboutery and NAMALT trope.

Also, sex is binary and biology in no way supports a 'range' (don't embarrass yourself using the intersex argument, it is an entirely different entity altogether). Did you confuse it with gender, perhaps?

HandsOffMyRights · 03/11/2019 10:02

Inclusive Cambridge, where female councillor Ann Sinnot was forced to resign because the council
'failed to recognise female-only facilities needed by women as generality.'

A council that 'insidiously dismantled' women's rights'

And how did the Lib Dems respond (see screenshot).

This is a place that doesn't like women. No wonder students are showing such misogyny.

What are T***s and why has Cambridge's Student's Union publishes a guide to spotting them?
HandsOffMyRights · 03/11/2019 10:04

Oh and Fanny great post, sorry for derailing. I await Frack's response.

Whatwouldbigfatfannydo · 03/11/2019 10:14

@HandsOffMyRights

Thank you, I despair that the wellbeing and safety of women is a worthless cause compared to validating the feelings of men. Haven't they had enough privilege? They demand more and more at the expense of the other 51% of the population.
It seems we've been reduced to a commodity based solely on our ability to gestate children, we've no other place or purpose.

emerencemaybehopeful · 03/11/2019 10:34

Another way that the stats about trans hate crimes are meaningless - there are so many more people identifying as trans since 2015 that an increase in incidents could actually reflect a decrease in the probability any individual trans person was targeted.

Witch hunting is back in style and I'm worried for the young women living in Cambridge who are likely to be too scared to think clearly. It took till 1947 for Cambridge University to reluctantly grant degrees to women, and it seems that many wish to go back to the good old days.

NumberblockNo1 · 03/11/2019 10:39

Wow. And these are the people who will go on to be in positions of power.

I feel for my girls going to uni if they will feel the need to hide their beliefs about women. Not complain about men in their spaces. Surely freshers week used to include safety talks for women etc.

EmpressLesbianInChair · 03/11/2019 10:42

It doesn’t sound at all inclusive for young lesbians who are just discovering their orientation & want to be told it’s fine to only be attracted to their own sex.

Bezalelle · 03/11/2019 11:29

I've said it before but I'll say it again: if TWAW and TMAM then there is surely no such thing as transgender and therefore no such thing as trans hate crime. Either transpeople ARE the sex they're identifying into, or they're not. Can't have it both ways.

Ereshkigal · 03/11/2019 12:18

You undermine anyone taking your point seriously by the use of bla bla bla. It’s almost as though you’re not interested in a coherent, evidence based discussion of your point of view but are here to troll instead.

Yes, I know it must be frustrating to not have a single decent argument, but come now.

Coldwatershock · 03/11/2019 12:22

Spot on Bez. Isn't it interesting that TW aren't just called women? Hence the crappy made-up 'cis'.. somewhere deep down everyone knows. Why else the prefix?

PencilsInSpace · 03/11/2019 18:14

Rather good review of this publication Grin

FrackOff · 03/11/2019 21:19

Content warning/trigger warning: sexual assault, child abuse. Scroll down for post.

Policy changes did follow the terrible Karen White situation.
Look, I just think it's a bit weird to focus all campaigning on this one tiny group.
My old primary school teacher is in prison now. He sexually assaulted 56 of his girl pupils, including me, over a period of at least 6 years. A man in a primary school, with access to all those vulnerable kids. And this isn't a one-off. Men are statistically more likely to sexually assault children than women are. But we don't prevent male teachers from taking up their positions, do we? We aren't campaigning to remove men from primary schools. And nor should we. Bad people will do bad things, but it shouldn't stop us trusting people as a whole.

PencilsInSpace · 03/11/2019 21:40

Teaching is not sex segregated.

If your primary school teacher said he was a woman should he be permitted to move to the women's estate?

FrackOff · 03/11/2019 21:57

No of course not, but similar concerns arise.
