CYCLING CHAMPIONSHIPS - Manchester

Sicario · 10/10/2019 10:00

Heads up - cycling championships in Manchester this weekend, which I hope will be televised so everyone can see that there is a male competing in the female category.

The male competitor has been bragging about setting new records and personal bests in the female category.

I am going to get as many men to watch this as possible, to shed as much light on this as I can. I will be asking local pubs to play it on their TVs. (No pun intended.)

I also hope that no woman will be forced to smile on a podium with a cheat.

When is it? Not that I want to give this individual the attention they love. I know it's invasive but is this person on hormones and are testosterone checks done? I know it's not just testosterone that is the issue here and that males have various biological advantages apart from that and that are not altered by that.

AugustL · 12/10/2019 20:34

I see the name on the entry list but can't see when the race, maybe iits my device www.cyclingmasters.com/site/

Amy of the British competitors likely to complain? British tabloids attending? Hope so.

2Rebecca · 13/10/2019 19:59

I've been following it on twitter. Really hope all other women competing except Mckinnon are female but the current laws make me doubt all women's medal sadly. Sports organisations need to clarify the fact that people competing as women should not have a Y chromosome (and have a testosterone below 5). I don't want to be looking suspiciously at women on the podium, I want to know that they are female and have not had a male puberty and male pelvis and physiology.

SlowasaSnail · 13/10/2019 20:33

I’m afraid both the UCI and British Cycling both subscribe to IOC trans rules so we cannot be certain all competitors in the women’s events are actually women.

Here is the timetable. It looks as though the "lump" will be appearing tomorrow in the 500m TT (late in the day, and then Friday in the sprint qualifying Early start).

Wow GirlDown, that is quite some fawning.

Wonder if RM is very charming in person.

Not if footage of them lecturing is anything to go by.

MrGHardy · 14/10/2019 12:31

500m TT and sprint. Both disciplines where his male muscular advantage is greatest. What a surprise.

I'm not remotely involved with sport and I'm barely interested in it, but does anyone feel like a feminist uprising is required?

Tennis clubs didn't recognise women for ages and it was a fight to have women included, obviously that fight continues...but wasn't it Billy Jean King who threatened to go off and start her own women's tournament?

I'm under no illusion, the Olympics is huge and historical and amazing etc but if women's races includes men and that isn't going to change beyond Tokyo next year then maybe we need to start again.

I'm daydreaming I suppose...

ForeverFaff · 14/10/2019 13:58

As soon as a thing is put up as purely for women, men will attack it, infiltrate it, ridicule and demean it until it's all but ruined.

OhHolyJesus · 14/10/2019 14:41

You're probably right forever we can't have anything for ourselves, at least not for long. It was a pipe dream, it's worth fighting for the space we already have in existing competitions. We need to hang onto that and not reinvent the wheel. I hope Tokyo (and other tournaments) does something to roll back the ridiculousness on this.

I think when males start winning women's medals in numbers, which they will unless the rules are changed there will be a backlash. It's just horrible for the current cohort of female athletes to lose out until the sporting bodies see sense. Surprised the protrans lobbies aren't more cautious about TW in elite sport as it is likely to scupper their progress

I get the impression some of them live in a bubble where they have convinced themselves they have right on their side and that their campaign only needs to demonstrate this and everything will follow. The situation in Scotland where they led with self-ID in prisons on the grounds that when it worked there, everyone would see it was fine is equally (even more?) breathtaking in its naivety.

THE FUTURE OF SPORT Transgender athletes – the controversy that could bring down women’s sport

This is the Sun which I know a lot of people have a problem with, but it's still important this story gets to every audience possible

There are copious amounts of Kinnon photos in this.

SnowyZ · 15/10/2019 00:08

Oh God! I used to follow a lot of cycling events as a keen cyclist myself, but not so much the last few years since having a child. I had no idea about this!! I'm absolutely gutted for the female cyclists. Professional cycling still has a long way to go for sex equality, yet now males are allowed to compete in the female category. Great. Dreading tomorrow's result now Sad

andyoldlabour · 15/10/2019 09:27

SnowyZ

Welcome to the madness, it has been happening for a while now, but only really became public last October. Here are some links to other "lumps" who have invaded women's cycling.

It looks as though it starts around 5pm today.

Here is some of yesterday's action, if anyone is interested.

andyoldlabour · 15/10/2019 22:42

Youtube are deleting a lot of well known feminist comments at the moment, including Louise Moody's.

2Rebecca · 15/10/2019 23:54

McKinnnon was second in the time trial sadly a Brit was 3rd

DrLouiseMoody · 16/10/2019 01:21

This is what my YouTube looked like before I was banned! The event organizer (s) came on to ask us not to make "derogatory comments" (i.e. to point out that a biological man was competing against women) and then I was LITERALLY ERASED. Nevermind, I have something like 5 Gmail accounts (more than Mckinnon's genders!) for these sorts of purposes.

... and Kirsten Herup – the third-fastest woman – didn’t make it to the podium.

Big Mac gets her flowers: the victory ceremony (at 3.55.30)

After the medals the two women and their supporters hang around together to celebrate, whilst Big Mac seems to get the cold shoulder … goes off alone and ignored … rather sad.

3.55.30 ?
