I just seen this on Twitter which is apparently going to be in the Mail on Sunday tomorrow

Self id to be kicked into the long grass

Part of me wonders if the Tory party were kite-flying with the MOS piece to see which way the wind is blowing...

BelleHathor · 06/10/2019 15:29

I always suspected that the delayed release of the consultation was because a majority of the replies were against self-id and there was no way to spin it. I imagine they got a shock that all the TWAW activists were a small but loud minority and most ordinary people were like nope.

boatyardblues · 06/10/2019 15:39

I’m sure I wasn’t the only one who asked tricky questions like how society would police offences like indecent exposure if a man could self-ID and expose himself in women’s changing rooms under the pretense of getting changed. No need to stand by a quiet footpath and frighten women and children any more when the law would give you carte blanche to go anywhere women and children are vulnerable in a state of undress. NB for the monitors: there would be no way of testing the sincerity of someone’s subjective beliefs or motivation under the proposed changes. This would only be evident once they’d already committed offences - harder to prove with self-ID protections in place - and done harm.

I always suspected that the delayed release of the consultation was because a majority of the replies were against self-id and there was no way to spin it. I imagine they got a shock that all the TWAW activists were a small but loud minority and most ordinary people were like nope.

And yet they are pushing ahead regardless.

ArnoldWhatshisknickers · 06/10/2019 15:51

I not only asked awkward questions, I flat out stated that transing children is eugenics and that I was keeping a copy of my response so they couldn't pretend they 'didn't know' in the future.

TheProdigalKittensReturn · 06/10/2019 15:59

Unless every TRA submitted hundreds of entries then I'm sure the consultation yielded a mostly against self ID and concerned that things have gone too far already response. Take a look at Twitter for a sense of how the general public really feels about this, or the comments section on any media article where there isn't intensive moderation.

The public is not on board with this, and the political parties must know that by now. But most are still pushing for it. Why? Sorry to repeat myself but that really is the key question. Can't stop it until we figure out why they're doing it in the face of clear public opposition.

CaptainKirksSpikeyGhost · 06/10/2019 16:04

Because the actual goal is breaking down privacy and boundaries.

happydappy2 · 06/10/2019 16:05

There’s money to be made by brainwashing kids that they are trans & need pharma products.....

thatwouldbeanecumenicalmatter · 06/10/2019 16:21

Thank you for posting Campervan69. A step forward, even if it's direction is uncertain, draws attention.

More daylight please 🌤️

So it didn't take long for this story to be denied.

Personally I think it's neither here nor there given that there is going to be an election.

OJ is already crowing how we are aligned with Cummings, Truss and Johnson.

And the i paper thinks that the equality act protects on the basis of gender identity so it's as though the reforms have already happened anyway.

Still a mountain to climb.

CaptainKirksSpikeyGhost · 06/10/2019 16:36

To be fair this isn't back peddling, it's always been delayed rather than abandoned.

CaptainKirksSpikeyGhost · 06/10/2019 16:38

Still a mountain to climb.

It's going to take many many years for a power shift to happen, decades even.

Sarcelle · 06/10/2019 16:47

The Mail group seem to have a campaign going around all sorts of gender issues at the moment which is no bad thing. The more exposure some of the more ludicrous ideas get, the more people push back.

There was an article yesterday about a transgender male who had lived for 10 years as a man, but who has now reverted back to a woman. She was based in Newcastle and is involved with a group about detransitioning. She said that lots of people had been in contact with her about the mistakes they had made by transitioning. A lot of the cases realised that they were suffering from body dysmorphia and transitioning was not the fix.

Ive noticed that Liz Truss has gained twitter followers today.
I checked this morning and she had 70.1K which has risen to 70.2K. Not a huge leap but surely not a coincidence?!

Waterl00 · 06/10/2019 18:53

The only denial in that i report is in the headline:

However, a source close to Ms Truss, who is also International Trade Secretary, told PA news agency she is committed to releasing the results of the consultation.

This is just the results of the consultation. They have all been "commited" to that. It means very little other than a report on the data

"The Secretary of State is committed to following through with the consultation in due course," the source told PA.

Again, as above, the consultation data ...long grass

A Government Equalities Office (GEO) spokesperson said: "The Secretary of State has only recently taken on this brief and will be carefully considering all responses and the next steps. These will be announced in due course.

Grass growing in the "due course."

"It is vital that the next steps on any potential reform of the Gender Recognition Act are carefully planned, and have the right backing so they can have a positive impact on the trans community in the UK.

The right backing? So that is a carefully worded get out clause. The consultation would have told them if they had the right backing ...

"We had more than 100,000 responses to our consultation and have met with 140 organisations to ensure that we have taken into account views and concerns from all sides of the debate."

We are hoping our arses are covered.

Popchyk · 06/10/2019 20:05

Owen Jones having his say.

twitter.com/OwenJones84/status/1180855435076755457

"Hi anti-trans brigade, congratulations! Your political allies - which is who they are - Dominic Cummings, Liz Truss and Boris Johnson have scrapped moves to reform the bureaucratic, medicalised, demeaning Gender Recognition Act.

You must be so proud!"

EmpressLesbianInChair · 06/10/2019 20:09

Ahhhh. He must think it’s a win for us or he wouldn’t be saying that.

Excellent.

Waterl00 · 06/10/2019 20:12

Thanks Owen. We may not be a brigade of anything other than equal citizens of this country but we are proud to have responded to the consultation truthfully and honestly and we will take your congratulations, despite them only being offered to show your derision of us.

HandsOffMyRights · 06/10/2019 20:12

Hi, anti-women brigade, Owen.
Cages are well and truly rattled this weekend.

Popchyk · 06/10/2019 20:18

Meanwhile, Labour is taking time out to appropriate the suffragette colours and claim that they are the party that fights for women's rights.

"Labour is a party that proudly stands with women and fights with them for their rights. With us? Pass this on".

twitter.com/UKLabour/status/1180544430136123393

The comments on Twitter not going great for them. Predictably.

HandsOffMyRights · 06/10/2019 20:19

I think he's still bitter about Stickerwoman visiting my local Waterstones to place some special bookmarks in his patronising collection of pontifications about the working class.

TheProdigalKittensReturn · 06/10/2019 20:22

I've noticed that Owen is often a bit petulant. Emotional maturity clearly isn't a strong point.

CaptainKirksSpikeyGhost · 06/10/2019 20:27

Emotional maturity clearly isn't a strong point.

Neither is reading comprehension nobody has scraped anything.

EmpressLesbianInChair · 06/10/2019 20:44

I think he's still bitter about Stickerwoman visiting my local Waterstones to place some special bookmarks in his patronising collection of pontifications about the working class.

Ohhh. I wonder if she'd visit my local branch too?
