It's seems to be for the cunty kind too...

How long till someone comes along and shits all over it?

The comments on the Twatter are kinda interesting ... I'm on my phone and don't know how to copy a link from twatter.

I actually really want to go to this. Will have a read. Thanks OP.

yulet · 05/10/2019 09:19

Well that's just a klaxon call to certain men isn't it!

I love the idea though. I wish there were routinely women-only safe places.

Hey1256 · 05/10/2019 09:22

It doesn't appeal to me. Never occurred to me that mixed hotels are a problem personally but each to their own.

HumberElla · 05/10/2019 09:38

I’d love this. I often travel alone and work late. Being crammed into a lift with 5 drunk blokes who then have a shouting match outside my door is something I wouldn’t miss of an evening.

TheProdigalKittensReturn · 05/10/2019 09:41

Tempted to see if I can get my group of friends from school together and plan a trip tbh.

BernardBlacksWineIceLolly · 05/10/2019 09:50

my mum would love this. she often holidays alone and I know she'd be so much more comfortable somewhere like this

come to that so would my friends and I. we invariably have men wanting to join in when we're in a pub or bar, or making weird demands like telling us to stop showing each other pictures of our kids on our phones (?). It would be so nice to be somewhere where that 100% wasn't going to happen

FancyRibbon · 05/10/2019 09:53

Wow looks brilliant

SchoolDecision19 · 05/10/2019 09:58

I wonder how long it will be before the trans brigade book en mass and stage protests around the pool.

Jeanhatchet · 05/10/2019 15:37

I emailed them. They allow for self ID as a woman. So they allow men. As we knew they would.

Fraggling · 05/10/2019 15:42

I think it's a great idea.

Self id aside.

This is the story of thing that sends mras and actually a lot of normal men into anger

They say
It's sexist
It's not fair
One for men wouldn't be allowed
And try to shut it down

Of course one for men would be allowed. But men don't want it so there aren't any. They just don't want women to have it.

Happens over and over.

And then self id comes back because it means actually men can go after all.

This is mra tra overlap.

Fraggling · 05/10/2019 15:43

Actually they aren't quite that relaxed are they, they want an ID doc and not sure how easy to get new docs in Spain.

But just rocking up and saying I'm a woman wouldn't cut it.

LordProfFekkoThePenguinPhD · 05/10/2019 15:44

@Jeanhatchet don’t they mean like a legal ID - so not ‘I am a woman, CALL ME MA’M’ written in green crayon on a bit of loo roll as ID?

AnyOldPrion · 05/10/2019 15:52

I saw the reply on Twitter. To be fair, it might be very difficult to decide nowadays to police who is, or is not a woman. It is not the hotel’s fault that governments are stupidly handing out legal documents with untruths on them.

I thought their wording was interesting. Rather than saying “documentation that shows they are women” they use the odd phrase “stating that they are considered thus”. I conclude they know male transitioners are not female.

yulet · 05/10/2019 15:55

On the other hand the TRAs won't be remotely interested now if there's no fight to be had, so hopefully it will be an actual female resort.

StyleItOutAgain · 05/10/2019 18:15

They will be interested if it's not self id

c75kp0r · 05/10/2019 18:36

you can't seem to book a room for single occupancy if you're a billy no mates comme moi.

LordProfFekkoThePenguinPhD · 05/10/2019 18:37

That’s rubbish - it’s bad enough I have to share a room with DH!

StyleItOutAgain · 05/10/2019 18:37

Really? That's odd.

Or you mean that theres no discount for one, not that they won't take the booking!

Gingerkittykat · 05/10/2019 19:05

I love this idea, especially in a holiday resort where there will be loads of drunk men. I'm sure this hotel would be illegal in the UK but glad it exists elsewhere.

Rachelover60 · 05/10/2019 19:28

NeedChoos: It's seems to be for the cunty kind too...
........
What on earth does that mean?

DrPimplePopper · 05/10/2019 19:41

@Rachelover60 I read it to mean women who actually have a cunt as opposed to men saying they identify as women

Datun · 05/10/2019 21:50

Gosh, I'm imagining actually being able to relax.

Milanimilani · 06/10/2019 16:32

I’m concerned by the wording on the page, especially the reviews. I went to that lovely female-only holiday place in England and absolutely nothing there was “feminine”. Nor should it need to be.

Lolasaurous · 07/10/2019 07:07

Don't know what is meant by "cunty kind". Not interested in this. Women only public transport though , I 'd go for, yep. I remember a big row between Labour MPs , mainly Stella Creasy, if I recall correctly, against Chris Williamson when he suggested to have a consultation on offering women-only train carriages as a 'safe space' to protect women after big rise in reported sexual assaults on trains. Stella was very angry. So we're other women MPs, journalists and women's charities. Personally as someone who travels a lot on trains in the evening/night, and have had my own bad experiences at any time of day actually I was all for it. Also for guards to be on trains.

"“It would be worth consulting about it,” Williamsom told PoliticsHome. “It was pooh-poohed, but these statistics seem to indicate there is some merit in examining that.

“Complemented with having more guards on trains, it would be a way of combating these attacks, which have seen a very worrying increase in the past few years.”

Williamson said he was not wedded to the idea “but it may create a safe space” though he stressed women would not be obliged to use it."

Labour MP Stella Creasy also said she did not welcome the revival of the idea. “Can we make all carriages safe for all passengers rather than restricting where we can go?” she tweeted.

“Doesn’t keep women safe to restrict their movements – it normalises attacks. We need to be clear they [the attackers] are problem, not women’s seating plans.”

Jess Phillips, Labour MP for Birmingham Yardley, called the policy an “absolutely terrible idea”, : “It is essentially giving up on trying to prosecute assaults. Also, men should be incredibly annoyed by suggestion they can’t control themselves.

“Sexual violence isn’t about urges, it’s about power. If you take your feminist cues from Saudi Arabia, you’ve gone wrong.”

  • Well Stella, if you read what he said, women would not have to use it, and it's about restricting where men can go, not women. I do not think it normalises attacks or makes people think the attackers are not the problem. of course all carriages should be safe for everyone, how are you going to do this then? Hopefully you've sorted it in a couple of days before I'm on a late train? Also I disagree with Jess's assessment. It doesn't say anything about giving up on prosecution. Also, if you have to wait to prosecution to act, it's already happened. And what about things that don't merit prosecution but are still harassment? Yes it's about power, it's also about urges. www.theguardian.com/world/2017/aug/23/shadow-minister-faces-backlash-over-women-only-train-carriage-idea

They mocked and attacked him so hard over the mere suggestion of a consultation with women about the idea. www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-politics-41028234

I just want to be able to feel relaxed and not on edge on a train , and public transport in general. Everywhere actually. Not having to "monitor" what men around me are doing, without looking them of course, no eye contact. Not saying anything about walking anywhere after dark because pffft that's out of the question. Mind you a woman was killed in a random attack, disappeared off the street in broad daylight, summer afternoon, near me. Body found nearby. Random murder.

BuzzShitbagBobbly · 07/10/2019 07:11

I saw this recently in a different place. Men were whining like crazy about it. I have never seen so much butt-hurt!
