Call to support women MPs in face of abuse and death threats to family

Could I ask people on this board tonight to look in at the Westministenders threads on the Brexit boards, regarding the death threats as the op states. Jo Swinson's child has been threatened, Anna Soubry's mother has been threatened. We have a Prime minister who is using inflammatory language appearing to support and enable such threats. Women need to stand together against this upsurge of threats against our representatives.

I don't often start threads on Mumsnet and I don't think I'll be able to keep a close eye on this one, but the current events in Parliament are truly shocking me. The Prime Minister today, after that use of language, openly stated that he would not abide by legislation passed by the House of Commons.

I agree it's a time to stand together for women's rights. I disagree that the best way to do that is to pretend the Tories are worse than every other party. Or to pretend that Jess Phillips, etc, are spearheading a campaign against emotive language/violence against women when they have allowed this culture to flourish by their attitude to the TRA threats.
It feels a bit like when the WEP used to come on MN because they needed mums to turn up for photo calls but they didn't actually want to listen to our concerns or to define women. They wanted us to turn up and shut up. I'd have a lot more respect if Labour, the LibDems, the Greens and the Tories were all apologising for the way they have enabled this toxicity rather than pretending it's always someone else's problem to fix.

They might not be interested in protecting the rights of women in sense of GRA but when it comes to things like this I don't care. I don't care what party they belong to. It's completely unacceptable and it's entirely driven by BJ and cronies. Brexit party people can do one too. This inflammatory language is putting people in real danger.

It won't be Boris on the receiving end. He has armed guards, huge amounts of personal protection, he doesn't even read his own mail FFS. It's your average MP, and women are much softer targets.

I don't care what your views on Brexit are, no right minded person should be able to sit back and let this pass.

Like Arnold, I too was reminded of the late Rev Ian Paisley at his ranting, shitstirring worst.
Except big Ian did have some sort of conviction.
Johnston is just cynically running the clock down by keeping everyone at each other's throats.

Any woman who has ever been on the receiving end of emotional abuse from a man would recognise the tactics BJ has used. It is somewhat triggering; verbally abusive, lying, gaslighting, the smirking, the flying monkeys. He has the whole range of tools

^ Yes absolutely.

"the labour benches need to take a good hard look at themselves before they start quibbling over words."

Heavens! I had no idea Anna Soubry was now a Labour party member! And Jo Swinson, too! When did they join?

Amber Rudd agrees that the language used by the PM is a problem. She's also disappointed with the dismissal of MPs fears.
"The sort of language I'm afraid we've seen more and more of coming out from Number 10 does incite violence."
"It's the sort of language people think legitimises a more aggressive approach and sometimes violence."

Antoinette Sandbach was just on BBC news talking about the harassment she has received, despite the fact that she voted for the WA three times. The goalposts have shifted so much now that a deal of any sort is being portrayed as betrayal or capitulation or surrender.
