Are they mad? Even people who believe that Yaniv is a woman give McK a wide berth.

MrGHardy · 12/09/2019 19:56

Fucking motherfucking fuckers.

MrGHardy · 12/09/2019 20:00

Ok but the replies on Twitter are amazing. Basically everyone who is into sports gets this.

JustTurtlesAllTheWayDown · 12/09/2019 20:09

If you delete an app does the company know?

Yes. They'd get stats on installs, uninstalls etc from the Play Store. If they got a lot of uninstalls at once, they'd know or they should if they had basic reporting on their own app performance.
Same for account deletions, both premium and free, which would be different data.
If there's been a financial/user reduction from this, they'd be able to see it.

LordProfFekkoThePenguinPhD · 12/09/2019 20:13

Mwahahaha. Good. I hope people are voting in droves with their feet/fingers.

SlipperyLizard · 12/09/2019 22:02

I haven’t had the email but just saw this on Twitter - can’t believe they would think this is a good idea! The Twitter replies are heartening, but will they listen?

LordProfFekkoThePenguinPhD · 12/09/2019 22:28

Doubt it - their sponsors didn’t back off did they?

Goldrill · 12/09/2019 22:35

Madness. Of all places; let's get rid of queens of the mountains and merge the lists then, shall we, and see how many of us still pay for summit...

TheCountessofFitzdotterel · 13/09/2019 07:21

The twitter replies are still coming thick and fast. I have never seen a thread on there so united.

Prawnofthepatriarchy · 13/09/2019 07:24

I was particularly amused by

Here's an idea. Why don't the sporting authorities introduce a new category for grown men in dresses competing against each other? I'd certainly watch the boxing.

GingerCake2018 · 13/09/2019 07:27

Can we find all the segments mcK is fastest on a drive them in a car with Strava running as a protest!! Self ID your car as a bike!

Fuck em'

Beerincomechampagnetastes · 13/09/2019 07:41

I’m really enjoying the twitter thread. Grin

Why do companies insist on towing this line when nobody supports it Confused

I suppose publicity is publicity 🤷‍♀️

deydododatdodontdeydo · 13/09/2019 08:57

I've only just installed Strava!
I won't be uninstalling it based on this, but I won't be giving them any money either.

TheShoesa · 13/09/2019 09:03

prawn my eye was caught by:

I didn't even think I was good at card games, but recently I've been playing snap against my four your old and I very rarely lose, so I know how awesome you feel

LordProfFekkoThePenguinPhD · 13/09/2019 09:06

Megan Megan Megan... what an idiot. Well I suspected she was a dingbat but now she has nailed her colours to the mast. Surely under the stonewall umbrella she can play in the men’s league?

AuntieStella · 13/09/2019 09:21

Yes, I got that too.

Strava is inclusive, and has no method to verify the personal data you input, so anyone could be lying about their age or self identifying. It's also clear from some challenges that it's possible to hack and input winning results. I doubt anyone takes 'winning' on Strava as an actual achievement.

But you don't like their philosophy, then use a different tracker. However of the others I've used, none verify personal details, so there are the same issues in terms of whether the person in your age/sex category should be there.

If you want verified age/sex, then you need to seek out affiliated events. And use whichever tracker you find least objectionable (without linking to friends) for your own training and progress records

DidoAndHerLament · 13/09/2019 09:30

I won't be resubscribing to Strava then. Is there some way we can tell them why we are no longer using?

There's no way to send them a message when you delete your account, so I sent an email to their customer support (link here)

LikeothersIamjustme · 13/09/2019 09:35

AuntieStella I get that, but there is one thing not verifying data and another glorifying a woman-hating cheat, I think that's the issue here!!!

willywillywillywilly · 13/09/2019 09:44

self identify your car as a bike Grin
I got this email yesterday and was raging. However I explained it to DH showing him photos so that is 1 more human added to the peak trans list.
Facebook comments on this post are also about 98% biology-based outrage so that is good news for common sense.

LordProfFekkoThePenguinPhD · 13/09/2019 11:14

Im self identifying as a zebra today. I can run very very fast.

ThePankhurstConnection · 13/09/2019 11:29

faces harassment just for pinning on a number.

Is that all it takes these days? For shame.

Taswama · 13/09/2019 13:06

@willywillywillywilly I have accidentally broken some records by forgetting to turn Strava off after cycling to a colleagues house for a work journey and only remembering 10 mins into the car trip! I did delete it though.
I saw the email and thought, why are they getting involved.

willywillywillywilly · 13/09/2019 13:23

@taswama Grin

HumberElla · 13/09/2019 13:36

Supporting McK who publicly stated that women should “die in a grease fire” is bloody horrible.

Sending out a mass message to users, promoting sympathy for McK feelings, when McK publicly tweeted relishing the idea of one individual woman (a lesbian) dying prematurely from brain cancer, is disgusting.

If Stravas PR and media monkeys are reading this, you should be thoroughly ashamed of your organisation in standing with this individual. Trans aside, nobody should get away with death threats against a protected group and McK’s behaviour is utterly unforgivable.

ErrolTheDragon · 13/09/2019 14:00

I wonder if Strava have read McKs wiki page recently? It's protected now following the earlier 'vandalism' but now contains additional factual information about publications and there's a controversy section I don't remember being there before.
