Gender-neutral bathrooms can save women from waiting forever in line

Not sure if this isn't the Guardian trying to use a different article to achieve the woke arrangements they want.

But primarily the article is saying by going gender neutral woman would get more loo time. ie women should compromise rather than have their needs catered to.

Quote: "With the current most common bathroom design, women wait an average of six minutes to go while men wait just 11 seconds"

If the choice is longer wait or increased risk of assault, sexual assault or being a victim of voyeurism - I’ll take the wait thanks.

What she said

Ha
Fucking
Ha

WitchSharkadder · 09/09/2019 00:14

Here's a radical thought, why don't we just design and build women's loos that actually cater for women's needs in the first place. You know, like more space & cubicles... Hmm

Sallycanwait1 · 09/09/2019 00:15

But that doesn't account for the extra time you'll have to spend cleaning piss off the seat.

Tartyflette · 09/09/2019 00:16

I don't get it -- we will have to share the same bathrooms with men as well as women but the waiting times to use them will magically be shorter?
I am sceptical. And that's just for starters.

Mxyzptlk · 09/09/2019 00:24

Let's have more toilet provision for females and less for males, to even things out.
You can bet that's how it would go if males were the ones with longer waiting times.

ErrolTheDragon · 09/09/2019 00:30

Quote: "With the current most common bathroom design, women wait an average of six minutes to go while men wait just 11 seconds"

A lot of men want urinals so design 3 is out. Design 4 - which seems their preference - appears to have open plan urinals. Confused that's not going to be ok with women or men.

Design 2 significantly improves women's time - nearly as low as design 3 - with less impact on the men. It's overall more efficient than the gender neutral design 3. It's silly to insist men's time is increased unnecessarily to make it match the women's time for a mere 8 second gain, oh, and the loss of safer loos for women.

So, overall it seems clear to me that the best result in improvement for women with minimal impact on men is - ta dah - to have more women's loos than mens.

Which we've all known all along.

Caucho · 09/09/2019 00:43

Don’t your women realise how stupid you are opposing this though? You’re all a bunch of inferior brained females who can’t see a good deal when presented on a silver platter

ErrolTheDragon · 09/09/2019 00:48

Or on piss-stained porcelain sanitary ware.Grin
(You were being ironic, weren't you? This time of night some of the blokes who wander into FWR would mean that!)

testing987654321 · 09/09/2019 06:47

I didn't read the whole article because it's such a no-brainier that you can even up the times by providing more loos for women.

The only way they come to a different conclusion is by putting in specific conditions like amount of space. I don't want to share my loo space with men.

Rufusthebewilderedreindeer · 09/09/2019 07:42

Redesign the ladies bogs then, its not fucking rocket science

Rufusthebewilderedreindeer · 09/09/2019 07:46

And i like the separate cubicles

But I understand the arguments and against them and strongly favour womens views...obvs

Mona is very dedicated to pushing the transagenda.

Waffleswaffles · 09/09/2019 08:14

Why ,when talking about trans issues, do they keep calling public loos "bathrooms" (and "waiting in line")?

StrawberryPi · 09/09/2019 08:18

Have you read the whole article? At the end she says:

But it is a shame that the researchers did not consider a bathroom layout with men’s, women’s and gender-neutral facilities. There are some people (including those with the gender identities mentioned above) who might still feel more comfortable using a divided bathroom facility, especially one that is unavailable to cis men.

...so I think your ire is somewhat misplaced. She realised that it is a complex issue and is simply exploring the options.

StrawberryPi · 09/09/2019 08:19

Waffles the guardian has a large proportion of American aimed and written content so I suspect this is the reason for the choice of language

AmericanSlang · 09/09/2019 08:25

I was in Copenhagen at the weekend, had to use the loo at the airport - first time I've been in a mixed sex loo and sincerely hope it's the last! The place stank, and there was wee all over the floor of the cubicle and on the seat - it was disgusting. I'd rather wait half an hour than go through that again, thanks very much.

Ereshkigal · 09/09/2019 08:26

I have both read the whole article and cited another article she wrote in the other thread.

HandsOffMyRights · 09/09/2019 08:31

The TES has tweeted an article about 'mixed-gender' toilets in schools at 10.05pm last night. It talks about the negative impact on girls.

I'm banned, otherwise I'd comment on the TES feed. Is anybody able to reply to this as current comments seem to think mixed sex toilets are fine!

InfiniteCurve · 09/09/2019 09:19

The solution to unequal waiting times is to have more and bigger women's loos.
How is that complicated?
I had my first exposure to mixed sex loos attending a uni open day with DS,it was dimly lit, very maze like. It'd feel safe when busy I think, and when very quiet but it felt risky as it was.I wasn't expecting to be bothered, and was surprised that was how I felt.

ErrolTheDragon · 09/09/2019 09:35

I'm guessing that TES comments won't include any from schoolgirls. Hmm

HandsOffMyRights · 09/09/2019 12:08

Quite, Errol!

The solution is to create more women's toilets. Like OP said, I'd rather wait than risk sexual assault or hidden cameras (please see the 'It'll never happen' resource thread for numerous examples).

We had mixed sex toilets at work. They were previously female only. They were vile once they became mixed sex.

The women were very vocal about our disgust (helps we are all middle aged and won't take any nonsense, but this is not the norm elsewhere where women are blindly ignored when we dare say we don't want males in our spaces) and eventually they were made female only because the majority of women in real life do not want to share with men.

And guess what? The men didn't want to use mixed sex toilets either!
