Title says it all really. Amy has publicly disagreed with the detransitioners representing lesbians at Manchester pride and has been called out for being 'unsupportive' rather than a recognition she has a right to hold the views she does twitter.com/amydyess/status/1166114175367532545?s=21

Whilst I've been glad to see a public retraction from the 2 desisters and I am sure doing that Pride being booed this time will not have been easy I see Amy's point that if they are bi they don't speak for lesbians and in particular they shouldn't go from speaking for the trans movement to speaking for lesbians. I'm bi, my life experience is very different and considerably easier than being lesbian. As a bi woman I don't have the right to speak for lesbians and just as most of us here don't feel LibDems women can give away our rights and identity as women to transwomen neither bi nor lesbian women have the right to give away rights and identify as lesbian to anyone who is not.

Amy is principled and consistent so I do tend to stop and take notice when she's calling behaviours out.

There should be room for Amy's principled stance at the same time as feeling Charlie desisting publicly is encouraging. Why the need to convince Amy she's wrong?

Oh look who's chimed in!

""Looking back on her time in the “gender critical” feminist movement, she is unequivocal: it’s a cult."

Must read article by @vicparsons_ about a courageous woman who left the anti-trans cult t.co/cBCZtDjEpv "

Quite a few demanding a grovelling apology

I'm sure. Best jump to it, Amy!

BringbackLang · 17/05/2020 17:32

Nothing but complete capitulation and even then it won't be good enough.

Absolutely. It's never enough

some might say running an operation of that nature is in the territory of human trafficking &/or terrorism. shipping humans into the UK, illegally seeking residence for them, & to then commodify them as political pawns, in order to grow your campaign of extremism & radicalisation

TRAs sure like hyperbole.

Weren’t two of the authors of those three articles the ones bullying Louise Moody just before her wife died? So not exactly going to believe a word they say about anything.

BringbackLang · 17/05/2020 17:51

I'm still pondering how our view are cultish when , up until a few years ago when the gender identity nonsense started, they were and still are the norm.

SunsetBeetch · 17/05/2020 17:57

Yes they were, Alloutofwool

SunsetBeetch · 17/05/2020 18:11

I did have to laugh at this though! Grin

The TRAs do love a DARVO reversal! The more outrageous the claim and near to the opposite situation the bigger the thrill for them.

OvaHere · 17/05/2020 18:18

Oh my the hyperbole. Grin

All because Bindel (or whoever) probably said something along the lines of 'I've got a lovely single friend I could introduce you to'.

You know, how dating has worked since practically forever.

The good doctor never fails to come across as completely unhinged.

Clymene · 17/05/2020 18:28

Either we're all fighting among ourselves and so we're destroying ourselves from within, or we're a far right organisation funded by evangelists, or we're a cult led by Julie Bindel. All three can't be true at once. Grin

This is all from Twitter:

Following
@AmyDyess
excellent article shining sunlight on some of the practices and behaviours of the ‘gender critical’ movement, I thought I’d share the Top 10 warning signs from the Cult Education Institute that you’re likely to find in a cult...

  1. Absolute authoritarianism without meaningful accountability
  1. No tolerance for questions or critical inquiry (see Mumsnet)
  1. No meaningful financial disclosure regarding budget, expenses such as an independently audited financial statement... (hello, TERF crowdfunders!!!)
  1. Unreasonable fear about the outside world, such as impending catastrophe, evil conspiracies and persecutions... (predators in bathrooms?)
  1. There is no legitimate reason to leave, former followers are always wrong in leaving, negative or even evil... (‘coerced’ by TRAs?)
  1. Former members often relate the same stories of abuse & reflect a similar pattern of grievances... (preying on vulnerable women)
  1. There are records, books, news articles, or television programs that document the abuses of the group/leader/s... (google “TERF”)
  1. Followers feel they can never be "good enough"... (Have you been to a meeting? Got a t-shirt? Graffiti’d with stickers? Insulted a trans person today?)
  1. The group/leader is always right... (See Mumsnet)
  1. The group/leader is the exclusive means of knowing "truth" or receiving validation, no other process of discovery is really acceptable or credible... (we’re “critical thinkers” don’ch’a know? We’re the only ones who understand “biology” & see the “gender ideology conspiracy”!
BringbackLang · 17/05/2020 18:45

Hahahahaha! Helen is funny isn't she?

I don't recognise any of that at all. It must be wonderful in TRA la la land.

BringbackLang · 17/05/2020 18:53

Anyway, I suspect Amy is not in a good place and quite vulnerable. If that is the case then I genuinely hope she gets the help and support she needs.

Terrorism? Haddock needs to calm down.

Harrop's tweet Grin

So Amy was like some hapless jihadi bride of Terfery, groomed online and promised a mate and a job in the morality police?

Crikey.

Strangerthantruth · 17/05/2020 20:49

Amy has set herself up for ridicule sadly. I doubt she realised what a nonsensical parody Pink News would make of her life. It's cruel of them to set her up to be laughed at like this.

FloralBunting · 17/05/2020 20:55

Pink News disregarding the wellbeing of a woman?

I could feign surprise, but what is the point?

PermanentTemporary · 17/05/2020 23:18

Really finding a lot of the last couple of weeks mystifying, because I don't know who anybody is beyond what they put in their own social media or much about what they've done apart from reading some of their writing.

So I'm a bit lost. Pointless to expect there not to be rows and fallings out in something that isn't a movement or a cult or really anything except a bunch of people finding something they are worried about articulated by others, and being relieved that they're not alone in finding it bizarre.

Right now it's difficult. Is there a compromise to be found on lots of different related issues? I'm not sure at the moment. It really feels about as far from a cult as I can imagine.

Hope Amy gets some helpful support. I can even hear JB joking that AD could marry a nice British girl and stay here; one of the things I like about JB's writing is how funny she is. I know I don't trust Mimmymum or AH at all.

HerFemaleness · 17/05/2020 23:49

I've just re-read the thread. Some of the earlier comments haven't aged well. But if rollon is still about I'm guessing she's not surprised by this turn of events.

Shockingly bad article even by Pink News standards. Just a load of vague statements and unevidenced claims. Who are the powerful lesbians? Who is in the network? Which right wing groups? Who invited her over here to support our 'struggling' movement?

BlackForestCake · 17/05/2020 23:57

Wait a minute, in the "article" it says she bailed before buying her plane ticket? So she never even came here but is now mouthing off about what a cult British feminism is, from her zero experience of it? Have I misunderstood something?
