It's real life experiences like yours that make people see what madness this all is. I have very serious concerns about Devon Rape Crisis and all of the rape crisis and support services for victims in Devon and Cornwall.

Something trully terrible is happening in the South West, both in terms of infiltration of rape and sexual assault service and of the promotion of the trangender agenda via various dubious charities and community groups.

According to their 2015 - 16 annual report, Devon Rape Crisis volunteers have received training in a range of subjects including:

Trauma and the Brain. Camilla Batmanghelidjh, The Tavistock and various dangerous cults and quacks are active in brain research re trauma. See Dr Brandon Porter and NXIVM. I would be very interested to find out who delivered this training and the nature of its content.

Ritual Abuse - It would be extremely intersting to discover who supplied this training and its content. This is a major red flag IME

Dissociative Identity Disorder - It is important to find out who provided this training and the nature of its content. cause for extreme concern

Somatic Experiencing - dangerous quackery that claims to recover memories trapped in the body (somatic memories). Responsible for false memories and resuting false allegations of sexual abuse. Used by many neo-tantric sex cults and their promoters e.g. Mike Lousada. It is an outrage that survivors would be offered this as a therapy by a rape crisis centre

Mindfulness - concerns detalied in other posts / threads

EMDR - controversial therapy considered quackery by skeptics and scientists, concerns about the generation of false memories

Pre-Trial Therapy - given the false memory inducing quack therapies on offer I am extremely concerned about what this therapy involves and the implications of miscarriages of justice

I know Kevin Felstead of the BFMS, whose beloved sister Carol was abused and died in mysterious and sinister circumstances following "therapy" and inpatient treatments from quacks promoting dissociative identity disorder, satanic ritual abuse and the like.

I have endured multiple rapes and sexual assaults and being referred to batshit insane mental health "professionals" was one of the worst things that has ever happened to me.

I can honestly say that I have received significantly more support regarding the abuses I have suffered from the BFMS than I have from any rape crisis centre.

Fucking hell hooda, that’s horrific. I didn’t actually take up any of the counselling on offer due to childcare difficulties and it sounds like I had a lucky escape. The woman who was my contact was absolutely invaluable to me though - I can’t imagine she’s still there as there is no way she would've put up with this shit.

One of the problems with these dangerous quack therapies is that well meaning feminists undertake training courses, usually with CPD credits awarded, run by apparenly lovely women who often identify as "survivors".

Many of these trainers and training organisations have long track records of working with the NSPCC, NAPAC, the police and statutory organisations.

Most people know little about the satanic panic, science, medicine, corruption and associated issues.

Many very decent, kind, well-meaning people get drawn into believing in bizarre, irrational things because for most people they believe what they are told on accredited training courses.

My experience of rape crisis centres and of various charities offering services to vulnerable people is that all of them combine some truly wonderful services combined with atrocious services that put vulnerable people at risk of abuse and exploitation.

I just want to clarify that I am not saying that the staff and volunteers woring at rape crisis centres are bad people. Some might be but most are probably lovely people whose consumption of koolaid has compromised their ability to provide a proper service

@vegtables, I read your contribution to the Twitter post and was in awe of your strength. Hearing your experience is frightening and awful. I hope you get a response from them. As a resident of Devon I can't work out if anyone truly believes the hype about TWAW or we are just so backwards and sleepy, everyone is naive to the abuse self ID is open to.

Also, I don't want to railroad this thread but am confused by some of @hoodathunkits concerns over trauma therapy.

I have a diagnosis of PTSD (not because of sexual trauma but other child abuse). There is a large literature about trauma and the brain. Some good and some bad. But all life experiences affect how our brain processes new experiences. This is not quackery, just meeting the human need to understand what's happening to us on many levels, including a biological one.

As for some of the therapies mentioned, no therapy is perfect but the ones mentioned are not used to 'recover' memories. I personally have benefited from EMDR (one of only a couple of therapies offered for trauma on the NHS and in fact EMDR makes a point of never having to voice a memory, you only deal with whatever is coming up and don't have to elaborate on it to the therapist who will not ask you any details about it). I have also made much progress understanding some of the theory that underpins somatic therapy. No, it is not an evidence based practice but neither is it used to access memories. All it does is help you recognise and work with how your body responds to the world. For someone with PTSD this is generally an exaggerated, flight or fight response.

Some other concerns I feel are also outdated. Dissociation is now a know consequence of trauma and the recognition of Dissociative identity disorders is now a lot more nuanced than the intial burst of multiple personalities that made headlines 30 years ago.

And with regards to ritual abuse, this is not my area of expertise but my understanding is that this has nothing to do with the mass reporting of satanic abuse but more to do with the fact that many abusers are systematic and unrelenting in their abuse. This systematic abuse is akin to a ritual.

I understand the need to be cynical when we have been hurt before. I too have had very bad therapy and been made worse. But it was the attitude of the therapist that was the problem (which takes us back to why MtF transexuals as rape counsellors is such a bad idea) not the therapy itself.

I agree trauma theory and therapies are in their infancy and there is a need for caution but don't want others reading this thread to think that what's on offer is not going to help them. Used thoughtfully and carefully, WITH A COUNSELLOR WE FEEL SAFE WITH, I believe, and have experienced, that it can help.

I am open to being challenged on this, I am not a psychologist but have read widely the current literature on how traumatic life experiences affect us.

Oh Vegetables so sorry. I had a pile on a couple of weeks ago due to being featured in a Sunday Times article re TRAs. There were hundreds of responses along the lines of "Shouldn't be a transphobe then"

What stopped me being upset (and I am easily upset ...) was that most of them hadn't read the article, knew nothing of the circumstances, and were posting from accounts in the USA - so they know absolutely nothing They are ignorant social justice warriors aka keyboard warriors, all about 15 and posting from their bedrooms.

I use Tweetdeck on my laptop & I find that makes it easier as I can just filter out stuff into another column.
