Cricket Australia to let TW play on women's teams

I don't really follow cricket and am in the UK but have just seen this on Twitter. The response is very negative so far. I wonder if they will stand strong against the backlash. Probably.

Another nail in the coffin of women’s sport.

Campervan69 · 08/08/2019 09:54

I've just started an AIBU about this if you want to hop over and comment. I am so mad at this. It's just unbelieveable.

Campervan69 · 08/08/2019 09:55

www.mumsnet.com/Talk/am_i_being_unreasonable/3659916-To-think-that-males-should-not-be-competing-against-biological-females-in-sports

Thread is here. I just can't even understand the thinking behind this.

littlbrowndog · 08/08/2019 10:21

🤦‍♀️

littlbrowndog · 08/08/2019 10:21

Bumping

Doyoumind · 08/08/2019 10:41

It just smacks of them not really taking women's sport seriously. It's good to see a lot of men on the threads objecting but it's really only common sense.

Some confusion here. Cricket Australia appear to say they will accept a T limit of 10nm, but the ICC reflect the IOC policy (they want into the Games for T20) and say it is 5nm.

www.news.com.au/sport/cricket/cricket-announces-new-transgender-policy/news-story/42bf52e3ffbb5a3638a6f9b4b170bbd9

Megan Schutt seems fine with it. Maybe she'll think again when some big lump sends her 70mph max deliveries out of the ground.

dancingcamper · 08/08/2019 10:54

This T limit stuff is just nonsense. The women's team is for women. If a man wants to play cricket with women he needs to find a mixed sex team. Including men with artificially reduced T in the women's team just excludes women.

littlbrowndog · 08/08/2019 10:57

I still don’t understand how a man taking some hormones and perhaps some surgery suddenly becomes a woman and can play in women’s sports

Am still like wtaf and how did that actually happen

MockerstheFeManist · 08/08/2019 10:58

ICC have replaced tea with the KoolAid interval:

I saw this today and couldn’t believe it. They’re getting ratioed on Twitter.

mobile.twitter.com/CricketAus/status/1159238036879581184

It’s not just stupid it’s dangerous. It could kill a woman. The fastest bowling by a woman at the moment is around 125 km/hr (I looked this up today). That is sedately Medium pace for men. If a man, over 6ft, bowls a bouncer at 130 plus, the woman facing would be in serious danger. A testosterone level of 10 is still WAY above normal for women and doesn’t factor in - as fucking usual - all the other important parts of male physicality.

Wrong, wrong, wrong.

BiologyIsReal · 08/08/2019 11:07

I follow cricket and I believe it is no coincidence that the increasing profile of women's sports, including cricket, with e.g. in the UK and I imagine Australia also, much more TV coverage, especially by Sky, means the time is right for these imposters to get themselves a public profile.

MockerstheFeManist · 08/08/2019 11:14

"It could kill a woman"

It has killed several men, notably test batsman Phillip Hughes in 2014:

andyoldlabour · 08/08/2019 11:16

If this is allowed to happen, then someone could be killed. The women's cricket ball is lighter and slightly smaller than the ball use in men's cricket, and I know from my youth how much pace you can get from the smaller ball.
It should be noted that in other sports where they have allowed male bodied people to compete against women, the regulations are different - net height in volleyball, hurdles in athletics, javelin. discus, shot and hammer.

FFSFFSFFS · 08/08/2019 11:19

I think sports will be the key hook that gets men to understand this.

As someone in the comments said - so why can't this male transgender person play in the male team.

Very heartening comments on the twitter feed.

TriptychDebbie · 08/08/2019 11:40

Great to see so many men saying hell no! Shame it took trans infiltration into sport to make them realise how misogynistic the whole ideology is.

terfsandwich · 08/08/2019 11:45

The ABC news just ran propaganda about it. Apparently it will finally allow transwomen to play sport.

I said to my partner, two years ago we would be swallowing that line hook and sinker. He agreed.

JessicaWakefieldSV · 08/08/2019 12:39

Jesus Christ, they’re insane to do this. Not only dangerous but of course completely unfair.

Transwomen can already participate. In the men’s category.

TriptychDebbie · 08/08/2019 12:49

List of cricketing fatalities. Anyone who thinks men should be playing against women is certifiable.

Phil Hughes (Australia, 25) – 2014

The Australia batsman was struck on the head by a bouncer during the match between South Australia and New South Wales. He suffered a ruptured artery and required mouth-to-mouth resuscitation on the boundary, before being rushed to hospital. Hughes succumbed to his injuries two days later.

Darryn Randall (South Africa, 32) – 2013

Randall was competing in a South African domestic match when he was hit on the side of the head when attempting a pull shot. The wicketkeeper-batsman collapsed and was immediately rushed to hospital, but he could not be revived upon arrival.

Zulfiqar Bhatti (Pakistan, 22) – 2013

The Pakistani player was struck in the chest by the ball while batting during a domestic game in his homeland, and he collapsed to the ground. Despite being taken to hospital from the venue in Saukkur, Bhatti was pronounced dead on arrival.

Alcwyn Jenkins (England, 72) – 2009

Jenkins was umpiring a league match in Swansea when he struck on the head by the ball after a fielder had thrown it in Jenkins’ direction accidentally. Jenkins was airlifted to hospital but did not recover from his injuries.

Raman Lamba (India, 38) – 1998

The former India international was hit on the head while fielding during a club match in Dhaka. Standing at short-leg close to the batsman, the opener sustained serious brain injuries and went into a coma three days after the incident before being pronounced dead. As well as India, Lamba represented Ireland in unofficial ODI matches.

Ian Folley (England, 30) – 1993

Folley had been tipped for an England call-up before a left-arm injury saw him retire from the game. He would return in 1991, but was hit below the eye in a freak accident while batting in a domestic match for Derbyshire against Workington. While under anaesthetic in hospital, Folley suffered a heart attack and was pronounced dead.

Popchyk · 08/08/2019 12:56

If any of the female cricketers in Aus want to take legal action against Cricket Australia, I'd donate to their crowdfunder.

Cricket Australia has discriminated against women because of their sex.

They are effectively keeping men's cricket single-sex and making women's cricket mixed-sex, putting women at a disadvantage in their own category.

DanaPhoenix · 08/08/2019 13:11

FFS just when our women's team had finally achieved hard earned respect. My extended family are complete cricket tragics they're gonna be livid once they here this....

Looks like it won't be just our men's team being caught up in ball tampering scandals...

DanaPhoenix · 08/08/2019 13:11

*hear.

So 😡

furrytoebean · 08/08/2019 13:14

I know a tw in real life who plays in a woman’s league. They are well over 6 foot and are very much of the ‘kill all terfs’ variety, they’ve also played against men their whole lives, in men’s teams with better resources, training, money. No one says a peep.

Doyoumind · 08/08/2019 13:17

No one says a peep because they daren't furry.

GC Twitter here in Australia is tiny. We had limited responses on Facebook and looked to have no traction on Twitter when (thank you northern hemisphere sunrise) some international people leant a hand.

Our peak sporting bodies keep doing this. No asking women. No asking parents of girls. Just telling us that inclusive is more important than fairness or even safety.

The video of the poor ickle person who had spent years indoors playing video games before (happy ending for that person) is nauseating. All the misery music to show how serious the issue is.
