Kathy Burke's 3 part documentary "All Woman" starts on ITV next Tuesday 13 August. There's an article about it in The Grauniad today which you can read here...

It sounds to me as though she wanted to make a programme about women and by women, and has.

The trans issue is something that she clearly thinks is significant, but doesn't perhaps know enough about. Her comments are tentative to me.

I have zero doubt that the woman who understands exactly what being a woman means, will eventually be an ally to women everywhere. Time is the only thing required.

Just watched the "beauty" episode and there is no way - no way - that Kathy wouldn't clock what's going on with girls IDing as boys in 2 seconds if she looked into it. That was a brilliant episode. Kathy is just utterly wonderful - I love how she points out at every opportunity that it's male artists, philosophers, photographers etc who are still controlling the narrative about what is and isn't beautiful. And some of those one liners need to go on t-shirts . "What's wrong with a hairy fanny?" - perfection. I did have a little cry though when she talked about being grateful for not having kids because I've just had a daughter myself. That young woman getting the breast augmentation who said "obviously no one is born perfect" - yes, yes we are. Those were the very first words I said to my daughter - "you're perfect". She was absolutely born perfect and it makes me sick to think she might grow up to believe otherwise.

That surgeon who said that we need to embrace plastic surgery because "it's part of our culture now and there's no going back" needs to fuck to the far side of off and stay there.

HelenaDove · 20/08/2019 19:41

That surgeon isnt thinking of anything beyond ££££££££££££

Michelleoftheresistance · 20/08/2019 19:58

Embrace plastic surgery....

Here's a thought. How about developing society (and its provisions and its media messaging) to support people in accepting and loving their bodies and themselves exactly the way they are?

Manderleyagain · 20/08/2019 20:46

Has the second episode been on yet? I watched the first and thought it was excellent.

We'll still exist in reality, even if legally we don't.

Do you not see a problem with this? Of course we'll always exist but without sex as a distinctly different legal concept to gender we have no protection against sex based discrimination and will not benefit from any measures put in place to give us equality of opportunity, this is why a 20 something biological male is a women's officer in a politically party which has all women shortlist.

Just watching this. Wish I could show it to my 12 year old. The message she is giving is so important.

hoarderadvice · 20/08/2019 22:35

'I like to go home, shut the door and skin up'. Grin

HelenaDove · 20/08/2019 23:33

God shes brilliant. So glad this prog has covered being child free by choice too.

Voice0fReason · 20/08/2019 23:35

I loved the first episode. I thought she really highlighted some of the pressures faced by women, particularly young women. And the plastic surgery was just horrific.
Looking forward to seeing the rest.

HelenaDove · 21/08/2019 00:01

Id bloody love to see her chairing Question Time.

Defender90 · 21/08/2019 00:06

I think this is a fab prog, I'm enjoying watching and tonight really resonates with me.

hoarderadvice · 21/08/2019 14:01

She annoyed me a bit when she didn't reply that yes she is a feminist. Everything she does and says screams that she is, why wouldn't she say it? It's not a dirty word (not that she's averse to them anyway!).

koshkat · 21/08/2019 14:28

I think that she was just label dodging which is her right. I thought last night's show was great. She has made a three part series about WOMEN! She has not mentioned TW once and I love it - whatever she has said about this is important yes, but the main thing is that she has made three programmes just about us!

HelenaDove · 22/08/2019 01:40

The next one is about relationships and the compromises made while in them.

Voice0fReason · 22/08/2019 21:14

She is clearly a feminist, she just doesn't realise it.
I think there's a lot of confusion over exactly what it means.

derxa · 22/08/2019 21:21

I love KB.

brownbreadicecream · 28/08/2019 23:45

Really refreshing to see an honest 'childfree by choice' situation. Would've been even better if they could've mentioned that women are discriminated against even if they don't want children i.e. it's often assumed women of fertile age will go off work to have kids (I know they mentioned how childfree-by-choice is often looked down on, but not that they get this assumption in the workplace!)
