Do any of these 'woke' companies do even the tiniest bit of research before jumping on the transwagon? Staff tips to Mermaids; how generous of them. Wonder if they asked the staff?

Weird I can’t see any of the replies to the original tweet. I even logged out and same deal. Do I need to follow them to see the conversation?

Why do they keep saying “top surgery”?

It’s a double mastectomy - tell the truth, ffs.

Yes- all the replies have gone.

Cowards as well as child abuse enablers.

Nothing wrong with also having a charity collection box on the bar, but expecting all staff to hand over all tips for a month, to a charity they may or may not personally wish to support? That’s utterly wank behaviour.

Exactly. Doesn't matter which charity they donate to, forcing low paid workers to donate their income is morally wrong. Plenty of ways for a business to fund raise or donate that don't involve docking staff wages.

(So, in the circumstances really not surprising that they haven't checked out the charity)

JessicaWakefieldSV · 07/08/2019 22:27

I got a reply from them... something about not knowing enough, staff can donate to whoever they want and that they’ll look into the word T* and don’t support any personal comments made by staff..,,

merrymouse · 08/08/2019 06:05

staff can donate to whoever they want

So why are they telling punters that tips will be donated to a particular charity?

If individual staff have a choice and can keep their tips they are misleading the public and this seems like false advertising.

This is like that other thread where Robin made the women's-only (eyeroll) fitness instructor ask everybody personally if they objected to Robin joining the class.

All that's missing is an angle-poise spotlight to shine in staff's faces when they ask if they voluntarily want to give their tips to the company endorsed charity that they've tweeted about and if they support their beloved colleague. Or not. Completely up to you of course...

stucknoue · 08/08/2019 06:43

I've never been in a brewdiog bar, but I've been in thousands of others and I've never tipped bar staff, never even seen a tips box. The exception is food service and surely that goes to the server or the tronc? If not it's misrepresentation unless clearly states no tips but you can donate to our charity of the month

JessicaWakefieldSV · 08/08/2019 06:52

Yes I agree and will reply with that.

As it should be. Not staff made to donate their tips to charities. Which is how it appears. No way are all the (low paid) staff willing to hand over a chunk of their wage to make the company look woke. Big boss man/woman can hand over his/her own cash surely? Not other peoples..
