These ads creep me out on their own (a hedgehog/seal in school uniform just standing there staring? Confused how does that sell school uniform?) but the resemblance to the “furry” movement is just too much. I’m possibly just over exposed to the grimness of the whole furry underworld and see anything depicting kids as furry animals as sinister.

Am I alone or is this weird?

This one is a hedgehog. There is one with a seal. Not sure if there are others.

For some people.

And by "some," we mean, er, 99%, according to a recent study surveying 334 male furries:

DpWm · 05/08/2019 20:02

For other people it’s more of a fairly innocent, albeit deeply weird, spirit animal thing
That glossing over is exactly how they attract minors to their "thing".

AndNoneForGretchenWieners · 05/08/2019 20:07

Ugh, the masks are bloody creepy.

DS works with a furry. Apparently he's quite popular Confused

6942a · 05/08/2019 21:01

Yes there is "yiff" in the furry fandom, although theres nothing wrong with it. It's the same as anime is with henti. It's for older people +18 and the movie has nothing to do with that side of the fandom. It's mostly highly detailed art work which there is nothing wrong with and to give credit to the artists their really talented people.

CaptainKirksSpookyghost · 05/08/2019 21:06

although theres nothing wrong with it.

As i said above it's fine when it's adults, the problem is it spreads to a lot of children's cartoons and gets kids involved in fetish culture.

6942a · 05/08/2019 21:23

@DpWm what is wrong with you. Stop being so closed minded and stupid. You have nothing to backup you words. It's a subculture that has nothing to do with beastality if anything its shunned by the community so do some research before opening your mouth.

CaptainKirksSpookyghost · 05/08/2019 21:33

It's a subculture that has nothing to do with beastality (zoophilia)

www.furcenter.org/pubs/SF_2008.pdf

This Would suggest otherwise:

17.1% of furries identified as zoophiles

Kennebec · 05/08/2019 22:48

so do some research before opening your mouth

Oh, there's been research! Journal-published and everything! Didn't you see my link?

www.researchgate.net/publication/331375793_The_Furry_Phenomenon_Characterizing_Sexual_Orientation_Sexual_Motivation_and_Erotic_Target_Identity_Inversions_in_Male_Furries

"A large majority of our sample reported...some degree of sexual motivation for being furries (99%)."

PancakeAndKeith · 05/08/2019 22:52

There was a very unsettling event at a pride march a while ago where furries were encouraging children to come to their stand and ‘play with the puppies’.

6942a · 05/08/2019 23:22

you can't just blame an entire subculture for few peoples wrong doings. That a 17/100. Theres still 83% you dont take into account and as I told you but none of you picked up on it us as a community hate people who do things like that. You can't just place the blame on everyone. That's just judgemental

6942a · 05/08/2019 23:27

I came to help and to let you get an understanding that not all of it is wrong. But it just seems you all dont take any of the points I'm making into account.

6942a · 06/08/2019 00:05

Does anything on here not involve all of your tearing it to pieces. Your all shallow minded. The articles you pulled up. Right it's an article, did you even stop to think that it could be fake?? Yes a small amount of people might do things that aren't right but you can't take it out on people that have done nothing wrong. I'm right, you just can't hate people who have done nothing wrong. And if you think I'm protecting the small amount of people. They can burn in hell, I couldn't care any less about them at all. Just dont hate everyone.

PancakeAndKeith · 06/08/2019 00:14

They can burn in hell, I couldn't care any less about them at all. Just dont hate everyone.

You sound very angry.
You can’t say things like ‘burn in hell’ followed by ‘don’t hate everyone.’

No one is hating. Do what you want in private.

6942a · 06/08/2019 00:24

Right I know, I'm not angry at all. I'm just trying to say that it's not all bad. Yes I said someone them can do that and for them it's true. Sorry if I'm coming out like that. I just dont think that fandom on a whole should be judged, yes there people like that who do wrong things but you get that most places you go and let them be judged. I'm not trying to upset people at all. I just find it hard that me and friends do enjoy this (spending time together) get hate for being a part of this community. I'm sorry

6942a · 06/08/2019 00:44

I just dont get why its disliked so much because of certain l people. I just want people to understand that its not all bad.

6942a · 06/08/2019 00:47

I'm sorry

RosesAndRaindrops · 06/08/2019 01:21

@Endofthedays Well this is escalating!

I really only mean it’s not a connection most people would make. Culture is full of human animal hybrids, and it almost never has anything to do with furries. Most people don’t even know what a furry is

Exactly, don't know why your post is getting jumped on so much

RosesAndRaindrops · 06/08/2019 01:24

I found Rupert creepy too when I read them to my kids as an adult. Something about the animal heads with human hands

WTAF, Rupert Bear?! He's not creepy lol.
Loved Rupert as an 8 year old!
These boards are barking sometimes

Sashkin · 06/08/2019 02:54

Um, you know that “Puppies” aren’t furries, right? They are a specific subset of gay S&M culture. In the same way that bears and otters aren’t furries, they are older hairy chunky lumberjack-type guys, and younger slimmer hairy guys respectively.

Furries are something completely different. Often female, as it happens. And completely different again from paedophiles using dolls to groom children by normalising sex acts.

OrchidInTheSun · 06/08/2019 08:23

Puppies aren't the same as furries. Still gross tho

ChattyLion · 06/08/2019 08:38

I think that even children who love animals will be creeped out by seeing adverts with realistic animals’ heads put on to real children’s bodies.
Agree it feels like someone in the team is either having a nasty in-jokey type of laugh at M&S customers’ expense by referencing this fetish in marketing of a product for kids, or someone is getting a thrill on putting their stuff out there in plain sight.

6942a · 06/08/2019 08:42

It's not like its putting anything on them, advertising has always had werid ways of getting products across to buyer's. I mean look at some of the tv ad's from the early 2000's they were weird as anything. It's used to catch the eye of someone and that's what marketing does, it's a tool to get people to buy said item.

RiddleyW · 06/08/2019 08:54

Those pictures don’t “read” as furries to me at all. I think they’re ugly and it’s a stupid campaign though.

CaptainKirksSpookyghost · 06/08/2019 08:54

Furries are something completely different. Often female, as it happens.

That's wrong, see the survey sheet I linked above.

Anotherusefulname · 06/08/2019 08:55

I don't know what furries are.
However clearly these adverts are using the characteristics/appearance of animals to highlight a feature of the uniform using puns/language.
Eg. Hedgehogs have sharp prickles.
Our shirts have sharp creases.
I really think you are over thinking it.
