Why are company logos still Rainbow-coloured?

I noticed lots of company logos on facebook and twitter had been rainbow washed in June and assumed it was because of pride month.

I found pride month to be quite stressful, having seen the abuse the TRAs were dishing out to people online who dared to so much as question their ideology. It felt a bit like we were all forced to plaster on smiles and join along, otherwise we would be subjected to abuse too.

I assumed the companies' logos would all return to their normal logos when the clock struck July but I've noticed lots of them are still rainbow coloured and it's nearly the end of July. Have I missed something, is 2019 pride year or something?

Our society has so many issues right now such as poverty, the housing crisis, environmental crisis, animal rights etc etc but I don't see these causes getting whole months and lots of funding put towards them. Why is this?

To clarify, I say this as someone who has always supported people's rights to love who they want, dress how they want and marry who they want and someone who has always voted for left wing parties. Those rights were met years ago so I'm confused why we still all have to focus on them so much.

It's corporate virtue signalling and I hate it. It's a token gesture that costs little and fixes nothing. See also pinkwashing.

I look.at "Get The L Out" snd think that the female B should follow them.

HeronLanyon · 27/07/2019 02:29

I agree it is virtue signalling.
As for why - just look at rise in homophobic hate crimes and that might explain.
I too find it difficult to feel great about it now as reminds me of society forcing me to accept all sorts of nonsense re what a woman is and increasing loss of safe spaces and rights for women and girls due to men.

Mrstwiddle · 27/07/2019 06:33

Agree...virtue signalling, I’m so fed up with seeing it everywhere

Bespin · 27/07/2019 07:44

those rights were not meet years ago and in some places are being rolled back. the fact you find a logo annoying maybe says that we still have a long way to go in making diversity exceptable to people. it's there logo they can do what they like with it, they are totally cashing in on this because a lot of the said company's don't support practical things like there employees rights in relation to lgbt issues but I suppose its a start.

also rainbows are cool who don't like a nice rainbow lol

MoreNiceCereal · 27/07/2019 07:45

Pride marches are still happening, it's more like pride summer not month.

Bezalelle · 27/07/2019 07:54

Me, when it has come to represent the marginalisation of women and the celebration of straight male fetishes and paraphilias.

HeronLanyon · 27/07/2019 07:56

Me too. I have very sadly now come to see the rainbow logo as oppressive and male centric.

dianebrewster · 27/07/2019 07:56

Pride season. Brighton pride isn't until next week. London is one of the very early ones in June.

MrsGrindah · 27/07/2019 07:58

Agree completely. What does “ proudly supports LGBTQ “ even mean?! Do I even need to know this from my local supermarket? How does that affect my weekly shop?

Campervan69 · 27/07/2019 07:58

I've come to hate rainbows TBH. Ruined for me by the aggressive tactics of the male rights activists

LadyOfTheCanyon · 27/07/2019 08:02

It's tricky - I agree that I find myself feeling slightly antagonistic towards it as a symbol these days. I support the right of anyone to love who they want and live how they please. But a LOT of my experiences with gay men over the years have shown just how misogynistic they can be. You can't be an ally of women when your reaction to their biology is either to fetishise it or be "Urgh, a FANNY, how icky!"

LizziesTwin · 27/07/2019 08:02

I’m sick of Pride & rainbow logos. Black history month only lasts the month and has more focus as it is a set period.

LadyOfTheCanyon · 27/07/2019 08:03

Yes, I saw a Royal Mail van covered in rainbow livery saying " supporting LGBT" and I thought: how?? Were you previously withholding their post?

Bespin · 27/07/2019 08:06

proudly supports LGBTQ often means with a logo and not by changing there policies or supporting groups. but some organisations to actually support and work with the community quite a bit. Asda in Leeds do a lot, so there's another place you can stop shopping at.

daisychain01 · 27/07/2019 08:07

What does “ proudly supports LGBTQ “ even mean?!

In reality it means organisations are willing to consider employing someone who happens to be trans by putting aside their conscious and unconscious biases and recruiting them on the basis of their skills and capabilities when formerly they would have discriminated against them and said "no way will I recruit a bloke in a dress".

That's the positive side of the rainbow agenda, however I do agree it comes across as virtue signalling because I'm cynical enough to know global corporate use every opportunity to jump on the latest bandwagon to self-promote.

If only I could believe in purist motives around diversity and attracting talent without bias but I can't!

MrsGrindah · 27/07/2019 08:28

Who said I was banning shopping at places displaying the rainbow? What I mean is surely these places should be “ proudly supporting “ everyone. And “ proudly supporting “ other often marginalised groups such as disabled people, making sure their recruitment policies support them etc. But they don’t because it’s not got as much kudos at the moment.

ShootsFruitAndLeaves · 27/07/2019 08:36

Surrey police still have it as their logo

ArnoldWhatshisknickers · 27/07/2019 08:43

Intentionally or otherwise this sums up exactly why I, and seemingly others, are no longer comfortable with rainbows everywhere.

The rainbow was a symbol of GAY rights. HomoSEXual rights. It was not about fucking trans.

I have always supported the rights of homosexual people. I do not support the demands of trans privilege activists.

FormerMediocreMale · 27/07/2019 08:52

Pride is the complete oposite of what it used to be. It has becone a fetish parade for MRA. The rainbow logo has been tainted by a load of perverts.

I fully support people to love who they choose as long as they are consenting adults but do not agree with sexual fetishes being paaround in public.

If there has to be a pride month then make it a month not all bloody summer. Use other months for the other protected characteristics.

DtPeabodysLoosePants · 27/07/2019 08:52

I hate rainbows too as does 12 yo dd for all the reasons stated above. Sick of seeing them everywhere and what they now represent. I like seeing them in the sky as a natural phenomenon but they can fuck off on everything else. A whole week at school dedicated to lgbtq+ but just one day to women. A rainbow means I'm not welcome with my gc views.

Bespin · 27/07/2019 08:53

our rights have always been intertwined, it was powerful gay men in the 70s and 80s who moved the movement away from the rest of the community for a long time in order to gain lagitacy the community has come back together since then.

FormerMediocreMale · 27/07/2019 09:03

formerly they would have discriminated against them and said "no way will I recruit a bloke in a dress".

Yeah because predominantly white middle class males have really had it hard trying to get a job and fair treatment - ffs how have we got here Confused

ArnoldWhatshisknickers · 27/07/2019 09:07

I think you've answered your own question FormerMediocreMale. We've got here because trans privilege activists are predominantly members of the privileged classes.

ThinkIveFoundYourMarbles · 27/07/2019 09:20

In reality it means organisations are willing to consider employing someone who happens to be trans

No, in reality it's probably about organisations blindly obliterating all sex-based boundaries for their staff and customers, whether that's toilets, changing rooms or all-women shortlists. And then expecting their staff to joyfully indulge in 'equality and diversity' training, pronouns on email signatures and rainbow lanyards, whether it makes them uncomfortable or not.

I am so, so sorry to be cynical, but this is where I'm at with all this.

FormerMediocreMale · 27/07/2019 09:31

Arnold a bit of equality started to creep in so the fuckers suddenly became the most oppressed ever and everyone else is literally so violent. Now Dave in accounts can be Davina at board meetings on a Friday morning and equality ticks alround. No need for any cunty people any more!
