Gosh, it had open comments!

Apocalyptichorsewoman · 22/07/2019 18:14

I know - I wasn't expecting that!

OvaHere · 22/07/2019 18:23

The comments in the main aren't really buying it either. Lots of discussion about sex and the reality of DSDs.

Goosefoot · 22/07/2019 18:35

Yes. I really think the narrative on this is changing somewhat. It looks a lot different than it did 5 years ago.

truthisarevolutionaryact · 22/07/2019 18:37

And they've disabled the like function as well Grin. So typically controlling the agenda Guardian.

The comments were very sceptical.

I think the title of then article is misleading, I've never thought I should be able to decide another's gender, I reject the concept for myself but if others want to embrace it then they can fill their boots. I don't however expect to be labelled a bigot for acknowledging biological sex or for failing to correctly recognise your gender as you would like me to. And I definitely don't think creating a legal fiction is a rational or logical move.

TurboTeddy · 22/07/2019 18:53

Comments closed now..... how very fucking Guardian!

Goosefoot · 22/07/2019 18:53

And they've disabled the like function as well

They usually only leave that on for a little while I think. But they didn't leave it open for long.

Chocalatecappuccino · 22/07/2019 18:55

So it's not for others to decide gender but they can decide women's gender? They can force 'cis' on us? They can say sex doesn't matter and is a social construct? So hypocritical!!! This massively gives me the rage. Fuck. That.

WrathofStrawberryWhittleKlop · 22/07/2019 19:21

Simona Castricum is a transgendered women.
Obvious really

FFSFFSFFS · 22/07/2019 19:32

www.theguardian.com/commentisfree/2017/jul/22/im-surviving-transphobia-when-id-rather-just-play-footy

Simona totes doesn't stand out in her footy match - good on ya Simona bet women totally feel safe playing footy against you.

What possible physical advantage could you have? What possible danger could your physical form pose to women who want to play the traditionally male dominated sport of football.

Makes my blood boil.

Prawnofthepatriarchy · 22/07/2019 19:33

One of the many infuriating and illogical aspects of the ideology is that no one can tell anyone what their gender identity is unless those people are middle aged women. Then we're told we're "cis". Another is the insistence that everyone has a gender identity.

The frothing rage when many of us gender critical women announced that we were #genderfree showed the nonsense up for what it is.

TurboTeddy · 22/07/2019 20:16

That headline! That photograph!
Are we sure the Guardian aren't just trolling now?

NotAtMyAge · 22/07/2019 20:19

Guardian Australia, so the comments are at least partly from Australians, who don't seem to be wholly on-board. The article used all the tropes of "administrative violence" and "coercively assigned gender at birth without consent" but most readers weren't having any of it. The top-rated comments are really very good and definitely gender-critical.

As for comments being closed, this is par for the course with The Guardian after a couple of days and this article was 4 days ago. It costs money to moderate and money is scarce at The Guardian,

MrsJoyless · 22/07/2019 20:24

The writer seemed particularly concerned that a person's trans status should be kept private. Is there any protection in law to prevent a man who hopes to become a father from unknowingly marrying a transwoman with an altered birth certificate?

CaptainKirksSpookyghost · 22/07/2019 20:26

money is scarce at The Guardian

There is a reason people are not wanting to read it.

OldCrone · 22/07/2019 20:30

It's from a month ago. And with articles like this, if they open comments at all it's usually only for a few hours. And most of them don't pass moderation (most of mine don't, anyway).

OldCrone · 22/07/2019 20:34

Another article from the lovely Simona, telling us how brave and stunning Simona is.

www.theguardian.com/books/2015/nov/19/simona-castricum-a-letter-to-everything-ive-lost-and-found

SouthChinaSea234 · 22/07/2019 20:38

As an adopted person I have always found it quite extraordinary that I cannot obtain a birth certificate recording my adoptive parents as my parents.

The justification for this is that they were not my parents (even though legally they are my parents! ) and that to create such a birth certificate would be to create a lie.

Why can the 100s of thousands of adopted people in the UK be refused this?

Why should this right be offered to transgender people?

Outanabout · 22/07/2019 20:43

"When I experience transphobia I just tackle harder". What does that mean? That they play rougher? Confused

As always, under the whinging about delicate feelings and being hurt, the sense of entitlement is ginormous.

ArabellaDoreenFig · 22/07/2019 20:48

So this person chose to be know as Simona Castricum

And we have to call this person by that name. But we can’t call this person a man because it could hurt feelings.

The media can try to pretend all it likes but we do see these arseholes for what they are. And do you know what @MNHQ if you don’t like that we see it, we name it then you need to have a word with yourself about who exactly your website is for.

Apollo440 · 22/07/2019 20:49

Jeez what a text book narcissist.

Rubidium · 22/07/2019 20:50

Sidebar link in the article:
"Trans Victorians can alter birth certificates without surgery under Labor plan"

Is a Trans Victorian someone who was born in either the 20th or 21st century but identifies as having been born in the 19th? A bit like Jacob Rees Mogg? Do they campaign for their birth certificates to be changed from e.g. 1975 to 1875?

OvaHere · 22/07/2019 20:59

I puzzled about that for a second. They are talking about Victoria, Australia I think.
