For anyone not following on fb:

*"We are extremely pleased to hear the news, that thanks to the persistence of Child Protection Barrister, Sarah Phillimore, the NSPCC are finally taking the safeguarding concerns raised seriously and have now referred themselves to the Charities Commission. We are watching with interest to see how this progresses.

It is imperative that as a society we prioritise the safeguarding of children at all times. We all have a shared Duty of Care."*

Well done Sarah.

MrsJamin · 16/07/2019 13:39

Amazing work. But isn't this incredible that we have got to the point where the NSPCC have got their own safeguarding concerns?! Its just madness.

Manderleyagain · 16/07/2019 13:42

I wonder if Owen Jones and other commentators who were adament that it was all a homophobic fuss will make a mental note. I don't really wonder.

BernardBlacksWineIcelolly · 16/07/2019 13:49

DpWm · 16/07/2019 14:09

Very glad to hear this while remaining disgusted that there was any need for it in the first place.

Keep on the case, Sarah and SSA.

frazzled1 · 16/07/2019 15:36

Well done Sarah Flowers

Floomph · 16/07/2019 15:54

Wow. I'm genuinely shocked. Brilliant work, Sarah. So grateful there are people like you looking out for the most vulnerable in society.

HandsOffMyRights · 16/07/2019 15:59

Thanks Sarah. Deeply concerning that it has taken your tenacity, on the back of numerous complaints, to get the NSPCC to acknowledge concerns.

We must continue to hold these organisations to account. Shame that we need to.

WootMoggie · 16/07/2019 16:07

Hmmm... Do the charities commission now anything about safeguarding? They might be woked-up to the eyeballs and end up having the reverse effect.

EggWrap · 16/07/2019 16:10

Can I get a bit of an overview? I'm so out of the loop on this one Blush

LordProfFekkoThePenguinPhD · 16/07/2019 16:12

So was this about....

  • changing the definition of child abuse to refer to the kids being scared
  • staff member wanking in a gimp suit in the staff loos and posting it in SM (with references to work) and their later attack on anyone who raised this issue as - an issue
  • Temporarily having an ambassador who has a SM history of abusive messages and asked kids to SM them

Did I miss anything?

FormerMediocreMale · 16/07/2019 16:15

Fantastic news, well done Sarah Flowers

MeltedEggMum2 · 16/07/2019 16:20

The rot is deep in the nspcc in my opinion. Shine the light.

EggWrap · 16/07/2019 16:23

Wow......what a shit-show! Is anywhere safe for kids now?!

LangCleg · 16/07/2019 16:25

Um... can anybody see a post by an MNHQ shopbot?

Deary me.

Michelleoftheresistance · 16/07/2019 16:44

Well done Sarah, thank you Flowers

NSPCC are dead in the water, any credibility for safeguarding is long past.

Redshoeblueshoe · 16/07/2019 17:34

Lang don't say that out loud, otherwise you'll get an advert for Specsavers

Daughterofmabel · 16/07/2019 17:57

Excellent

WootMoggie · 16/07/2019 18:13

...and what with Childline partnering with Fox Fisher, I don't know who kids are meant to go to for gender-free advice if they're feeling under social pressure to transition.

Referring to it as bullying, and IIRC asking that critical posts on twitter be reported, and issuing a statement saying they support their staff.
