Is this what walking the dog means now?

I was out yesterday with some friends and we were standing outside the venue we’d been to, on the Mall, so central London at about 3pm.

A group of about 30 or so men, accompanied by a couple of police officers walked by, and I was extremely taken aback to realise that it was some sort of pup fetish walk. In masks, with tails, on leads. Some of them were being walked “roughly” for want of a better word - let’s just say I would never yank my dog’s lead like that.

I was really uncomfortable, knowing what I know about this particular fetish. Is this now OK, to literally parade your fetish down the high street in broad daylight? Does the fact that no one was naked make it ok? What is the point of the march ? Because I can only see it as an attempt to normalise sexual behaviour in public places, and I’m not ok with that.

My friends thought it was kind of harmless fun, and that I’m a joyless old prude. I’m actually starting to get really concerned about the pressure for people to be welcoming of any old sexual behaviour in any context. Cui bono- who benefits when we break down the barriers of public and private behaviour? (Or in this case, cui bonio I suppose).

Thoughts?

I don’t get that reference, always, help me out?

That sounds like what I saw, thered, I’m not on Twitter as it’s a cesspit.

tenbob, yep, they were heading to Trafalgar Square. Sounds like the same organisation.

What a time to be alive.

What do the official LGBT groups say about puppies wearing rainbows and joining in?

averylongtimeago · 14/07/2019 09:29

As you gradually break down social taboos, anytime becomes acceptable.
So harmless puppies now, "inter generational" sex next?
Then what? Incest?

Childrenofthestones · 14/07/2019 09:40

What's New Pussyhat said.....

"Can you see the common denominator here?"

Er.....all being advanced by left-wingers?

JoxerGoesToStuttgart · 14/07/2019 09:46

They had a police escort?

Money well spent. Sure the police have loads of it anyway Hmm

DtPeabodysLoosePants · 14/07/2019 09:49

Sick puppies.

I actually stopped mid chew of my breakfast reading your OP. Do people have no boundaries now. Why are the general public being forced to watch this behaviour? People dressed up as non-humans so I can't see their face really freak me out. Have done since being a child. Someone on FWR explained the psychology behind that in terms of men dressing as women and our brains telling us that things don't match up and therefore ringing alarm bells that this person is a threat.

Isbrexitoveryet · 14/07/2019 09:54

This is so odd. Like people with foot fetishes wouldn’t be sucking toes in public.
Get a grip and get a room sick puppies

NorthernNic · 14/07/2019 10:00

I've just googled Puppy Pride and within 3 clicks I saw photos on twitter of men suffocating themselves. I'm not even on twitter. Scares me to think children in all innocence could stumble across these images. I just don't know what's going on anymore. I suddenly feel old and not with it - I'm only 45!

FannyCann · 14/07/2019 10:25

I don’t want to be part of their fetish, and presumably part of that is humiliation, which I, and everyone else doing their shopping and walking through St James Park of a Saturday afternoon, are supposed to provide.

St James Park! NOooo Don't upset Pongo and Missis out on their daily walk.
The twilight bark will have extra howls and dogs 🤮 up and down the country.

misscockerspaniel · 14/07/2019 10:26

The name Puppy pride suggests that they want the P to be covered by the LGBTQ+ alphabet soup too

I think they will find that the P has already been claimed, several times over.

LassOfFyvie · 14/07/2019 11:13

According to pup pride there is a meeting in Regent's Park on 28th July.

I have not seen them in real life but I find the photographs very sinister , disturbing and threatening.

One of the, in my opinion, valid arguments against the burka and niqab is that we expect to see uncovered faces. Our social interactions and responses are based on that. I'm very uncomfortable about a large group of men being masked in a public place.

LassOfFyvie · 14/07/2019 11:31

had to google to convince my DH that this was "a thing". It seems that you stumbled uponFetish Week

I see from the programme of events that Côte Brasserie in Wardour Street , Soho is hosting The Spit Roast sit down and dine event at 14.00 today.

SophoclesTheFox · 14/07/2019 12:02

Jesus. I don’t even want to know what’s on the menu.

What is the “pride” element, other than this seems to be an all male, and I’m guessing gay, group? This isn’t what most people understand as a pride or gay related issue.

Love cui bonio

LassOfFyvie · 14/07/2019 12:21

For anyone not familiar with Côte Brasserie Soho, it's part of a reliable, serves unpretentious but good food, chain similar to Browns. Very popular with theatre goers and tourists. It's absolutely mainstream (nothing wrong with that)

I think therefore it is a hugely inappropriate venue, at any time, but especially Sunday lunchtime, for hosting men in fetish gear. Possibly it's closed to the public for a private function, but if not, it should be.

TheRedBarrows · 14/07/2019 12:26

And you have to wonder about the menu choice for “The Spit Roast sit down and dine event at 14.00 today.”

picklemepopcorn · 14/07/2019 12:27

When my little darling asks why the funny people are dressed like that, I'd have to reply loudly "Those funny men think they look sexy dressed up like that. Poor things. Look, they've got some nice policemen to keep an eye on them."

RosaWaiting · 14/07/2019 12:31

The only time I’ve seen this in public was about midnight with a group en route to a fetish club. I used to been route to another club so we saw them a few times, but it was like a small group of friends, maybe six guys, two on leads. And it was midnight. This seems different.

The only thing I kind of hope is that there’ll be some sort of backlash and people will start demanding more privacy and better public behaviour?

Cocolapew · 14/07/2019 12:31

A couple of years ago DH was away working and was being put up in a Premier Inn.
It was next to a place where there was a fetish convention.
He said what people were wearing in the middle of the day in front of children was unbelievable.

FannyCann · 14/07/2019 12:36

My mother (90) loves a trip to Cote. She, and I, would be appalled if we found a group like this at the next table. I hope they've closed to the general public, they can expect much outrage if not.

CarolDanvers · 14/07/2019 12:37

Is this happening all over the world? Serious question. We must be an absolute laughing stock in some places.

AlwaysComingHome · 14/07/2019 12:40

always I think that is a bit of a stretch.

It was a joke. It’s hard to take the combination of puppies and rainbows innocently these days.

Is it wrong be nostalgic for those more innocent days when ‘dogging’ just meant having sex in your car while other people watched while having a wank?

Pissing up each other’s bum holes makes the whole thing sound kind of sordid.

OvaHere · 14/07/2019 12:42

OMG this is fucking nuts (as opposed to the dog's bollocks, which it most definitely isn't Grin)

I despair that we've ended up in a place where this is acceptable public conduct.

LonginesPrime · 14/07/2019 12:52

I've seen people in fetish gear being walked around on leads on Brighton pier before - makes for an awkward conversation with the DC...

kendoddsdogsdead · 14/07/2019 12:59

A bunch of furries have "meets" in the marshes near where I live. It's a nature reserve, such a beautiful and educational area.

It's also a much used dogging site. I don't walk my children or dogs in that area now due to the weird things we have seen and the amount of used condoms on the floor Angry
