The other thought that ran through my head was to raise a purchase order for some single sex female portaloos for the car park - but id want to keep my job too

sakura184 · 09/07/2019 20:02

Patriarchal reversal #1

Men are full humans and women are a sort of amalgamation of an undefined spectrum .

Any look at biology can tell us this is a reversal of how it all really works

LordProfFekkoThePenguinPhD · 09/07/2019 20:02

I’d get a sharpie and colour in between the mans legs and give the poor chap an arm and possibly a handbag.

PaintMePurple · 09/07/2019 20:05

My 12 year old had her hair pulled by a creepy old man in the middle of a supermarket IN BROAD DAYLIGHT last weekend, so you'll forgive me for not wanting her, or any other woman or child, in an enclosed space with men thank you very much

Just out of curiosity if you had a 12 year old boy which toilet would he use?

LordProfFekkoThePenguinPhD · 09/07/2019 20:06

Men’s

KatharinaRosalie · 09/07/2019 20:08

Ask them directly why men deserve their own toilet, in addition to having access to women's.

CaptainKirksSpookyghost · 09/07/2019 20:10

What, no, Nooooo women aren't being erased.....

leeloo1 · 09/07/2019 20:10

If you're willing to have some relatively dramatic surgery and have everything below your tummy button removed then you could be this person? Though I'm not sure if you'd need a toilet as you may be bereft of any genitals?

IS it actually allowed under the equality act to provide facilities for the Male sex and not provide the same for the female sex? Either all should be gender neutral or Male plus female plus gender neutral should be provided. Providing Male only is clear discrim8nation

Grimbles · 09/07/2019 20:17

Maybe all of those who dont see why separate female and male toilet facilities are important should start using solely the male toilets?

MagneticSingularity · 09/07/2019 20:20

I think if you approach it on the basis that men since they have access to both get twice the toilet facilities that women do, they won’t have a leg to stand on. Either both should be unisex or neither, it’s clearly discriminatory.

smashamasha · 09/07/2019 20:37

Think I like @LordProfFekkoThePenguinPhD and @Grasspigeons ideas best at present.

It the assumption that women must share which irks me.

No, that's my fucking space!!!

I totally support trans rights but I also support women's rights. Stealing from one minority group to give to another is a shitty way to deal with the problem.

In addition, as a woman I do not want my spaces to be given up to anyone who decides they are a woman or are gender neutral. I totally support that choice but then there needs to be a third and possibly fourth option. Taking my space away from me should not even be considered!

DpWm · 09/07/2019 20:45

Yes I'm sure they're in breach of the equality act by providing twice the space for male people compared to female people. I'm sure that's equality 101.

DecomposingComposers · 09/07/2019 20:48

What's the toilet provision in the toilet that's for everyone? Is it just a single occupant toilet? If so that might be a way to challenge it - it's the only disabled toilet, plus the only ladies toilet plus it's also gender neutral too so how many people do they want using only 1 cubicle?

KatharinaRosalie · 09/07/2019 20:56

I don't know much about this topic, but according to Google:

The relevant legislation is the Workplace (Health, Safety and Welfare) Regulations 1992. Regulation 20, Sanitary conveniences, states:
Suitable and sufficient sanitary conveniences shall be provided at readily accessible places.
Without prejudice to the generality of paragraph (1), sanitary conveniences shall not be suitable unless -
/.../
separate rooms containing conveniences are provided for men and women except where and so far as each convenience is in a separate room the door of which is capable of being secured from inside.

Separate room, not cubicle in a shared toilet

Rufusthebewilderedreindeer · 09/07/2019 21:00

Either both should be unisex or neither, it’s clearly discriminatory

absolutely

sakura184 · 09/07/2019 21:28

So if one toilet is for men, one toilet is for "anyone

Well men are the ones who are fully human, let's be honest here

Graphista · 09/07/2019 23:17

"Stealing from one minority group to give to another is a shitty way to deal with the problem"

As a disabled woman who is also a mother to another disabled woman I'd say this is a clear case of stealing from TWO minority groups to give to ONE other while ALSO not inconveniencing the DOMINATING group at all!

How about

"Dear ...

Please can you let me know when the old mens toilet will receive its new inclusive signage as it doesnt seem to have arrived yet.

I have put up a temporary sign for now as its a bit confusing otherwise - with the delay in signage it looked like you only felt women AND THE DISABLED had to be inclusive, and that able bodied men are not required to be so - and i am sure that was not your intention at all. I'm sure you wouldn't wish any women or disabled colleagues to feel as if their needs are in any way unimportant."

Arseholes! 😡

Graphista · 09/07/2019 23:20

Just to be clear (should have put this in first post)

I am not in any way saying disability trumps sex equality I consider them equal, but in the current climate I have a feeling they'll shit themselves more about possibly being in the wrong over the disability aspect than the self ID stuff so including it might get op further

heidipi · 09/07/2019 23:32

Graphista's amended letter/email is the one - please send OP and customise the Gents Alone door!

Erythronium · 09/07/2019 23:46

I agree you should start by asking them why they've done it like this, what is their reasoning behind it. Put them on the back foot then take it from there.

Yes, I would also start by asking why they had done it, rather than suggesting the men’s also be inclusive. The men’s also being inclusive does not solve the problem, which is the need for female only space.

The only way it makes sense is if the men’s has a urinal but even then, what they should do is provide a unisex toilet in addition to a female toilet and a disabled toilet.

There are gender neutral toilets (unisex) in a building where I work. They have floor to ceiling walls and doors on the cubicles. I do not really like them (men leave the seats up apart from anything else) but you can go up a floor to single sex ones and there is separate disabled provision.
