Article in The Sunday Times this morning. It appears the research has eventually been commissioned but no indication of how long it will take or when we can expect to seeing the findings published.

Sorry I don't have a share token, I read it as c+p on another website and I don't know if I'm allowed to link to it here.

There's a reader poll asking whether children under 16 should be given puberty blockers as part of the Times article following InsulatedCup 's share token link. Currently on 97% against, which is an interesting guage of public opinion.

arranbubonicplague · 07/07/2019 12:47

They deliberately set out to recruit new children 3 years after the start of the study. But didn't anticipate that these children requiring 4.-5 years of treatment would have an effect on the overall length of the study. They just didn't anticipate that part of it.

I find it all very worrying.

As somebody who has held research funding and is only too familiar with the detailed form-filling and endless clarifications, I find it puzzling that neither the funders nor the ethics reviewers seem to have noticed the obvious timing problems and its implications for the study.

Glad the Lupron article has made it into the comments on the times.

I bet the RCGP had the Webberley 's in mind when they talked about oversight of all providers

Popchyk · 07/07/2019 15:32

Helen Webberley here lobbying the RCGP into giving "gender specialists" more power in the RCGP steering group.

twitter.com/MyWebDoctorUK/status/1142372810314125312

"Two young trans people in my knowledge ended their lives on the train track this year".

Webberley doesn't mention that at least one of them was GenderGP's patient at the time. Nor that she and her husband are currently suspended by the GMC.

The thread is nauseating.

AnyOldPrion · 07/07/2019 16:49

Gender dysphoria: Distress or discomfort experienced due to a discrepancy between a person’s gender identity and their biological sex observed at birth.

Transgender/Trans: An umbrella term for people whose gender identity and/or gender expression differs from their biological sex observed at birth.

I know this shouldn’t be a big deal, but look at this language from the RCGP.

Sanity breaking out!

I wonder if Penny had to say this, to refute the incorrect PN article, but without saying that? The PN one stated that she was doing an investigation into something totally different that does not come to mind at present..I remmeber though, that I thought when reading it 'no thats not what the investigations meant to be about!' so know it was not the same thing..

Either way IF its an unbiased investigation, its of course welcomed. The GIDs update is just, disheartening and quite bizarre. Does not give me faith in them at all that they seemingly did not realise adding more kids 3 years in might change stuff.

That mermaids correction is just [shocked]

Since publication this article has been amended to remove a comment from Mermaids, a charity supporting transgender children, which incorrectly represented their position on hormone drugs. The article stated that they consider these drugs ‘can subject a young person to distressing bodily changes that can lead to an increased risk of anxiety, depression, self-harm and suicidal ideas’. In fact, the full comment from Mermaids refers to their belief that it is ‘waiting times’ for these drugs which can be the cause of distress. We are happy to make their position clear, and apologise for the error.

What they were said to have said sounded very reasonable tbh. Showed they understood that this was not an easy process at all and it could distress kids, and basically acknowledging the downsides rather than just crowing about the 'good' of fast treatment or whatever. Should have known it was a misquote and they would be quick on the case to correct it. The correction makes them sound a bit derranged to be honest. So much so that it hald makes me wonderif they were purposely misquoted just for the correction to show it up!
