Academics and freedom of speech

I'm reading this and literally shaking. My story is in there - one of so many - I didn't realise there are so many women who've had to go through what I went through.

It is very scary, reading how many feminists (I'm not going to add "gender critical" as gender critical is what feminism is ) have been shut down, doxxed, and faced with students (and sometimes not even students) attempts to get them sacked.

Thanks to @DocStockk for collecting them, and continuing to speak out.

I hadn’t read that collection of depressing and frightening experiences before.

I’ll post this thread on the institutional capture thread as a resource for others because it’s all part of a pattern of operation against women, causing a chilling effect.

As well as government ministers speaking up, what are Universities UK doing about this to support women?

Some good news on this:

"3/ Update on this: The head of the Royal Institute of Philosophy, Julian Baggini, says the panel isn't going to be changed. "I would rather wait until after the event before saying more. You ask about when a final decision will be made. We have no plans to change the panel."

"Happy to report that talk went ahead without incident. Turns out 6.3k likes for no-platforming campaign translates to 5 individual emails sent against me; meanwhile 3 emails were sent in support, one of which had over 300 signatures.(Thank you so much to all who wrote & signed). t.co/GvXciBKOqo "

So basically a triumph for boomer organisational skills if nothing else.

"Incidentally, another amusing thing about this: after sending his email, and getting brief reply from organiser saying talk would nonetheless go ahead, Philosophytube apparently replied in a second email “Fair dos. I hope it goes well”.

Kathleen - I don’t know how you keep going in the face of such vitriol, but I thank you for holding others to our democratic principles.

Well done to the organisers for holding firm rather than pandering to these people. The sky didn't fall in when they said no. I hope it sets a good example to others.
