JFC

the mail do sterling work reporting these cases of horrific violence against women

JessicaWakefieldSV · 02/07/2019 15:24

Horrific case. A measly 3 years, which he won’t serve all of. For his victim Flowers

DeRigueurMortis · 02/07/2019 16:04

He'll serve a lot less than that.

Utter scumbag.

MenuPlant · 02/07/2019 16:09

3 years?

This is getting really out of hand.

MrsTerryPratchett · 02/07/2019 16:12

Say he serves half, which is fairly normal. 20 months inside. There aren't words.

MoltenLasagne · 02/07/2019 16:16

How is that a credible sentence for that violence? I can’t see anything that says the sentence was reduced for some reason so is it just standard to get such a paltry response?

TremblingFanjo · 02/07/2019 16:24

And they have a child together - who has a mother who by the sounds of it, is struggling to look after him with her injuries, and who I presume will also, even with a restraining order, will somehow have to faciliate contact between them.

AngelsSins · 02/07/2019 18:49

My god, I feel sick. Rape is pretty much legal, and domestic violence is heading the same way. He should have been charged with attempted murder.

truthisarevolutionaryact · 02/07/2019 19:09

Awful violence - that poor woman.

Sadly it seems that this crime doesn't come under one of the categories where members of the public can apply to have a lenient sentence reviewed:
www.gov.uk/ask-crown-court-sentence-review

Prawnofthepatriarchy · 02/07/2019 19:17

This is unspeakably terrible. He'll serve less than two years. I feel quite sick. Envy

Voice0fReason · 02/07/2019 23:09

3 years! What kind of a sentence is that?
What a piece of shit he is.

ZebrasAreBras · 02/07/2019 23:11

Horrific.

Just unbelievable.

ZebrasAreBras · 02/07/2019 23:17

How could a judge hear her statement and give such a lenient sentence?

I personally know (of) a man who punched and kicked a man in a pub brawl - and he got 5 years. And there were no such serious injuries involved.

A fight in a pub can get a higher sentence than a man doing this to the woman he supposedly loved??

Italiangreyhound · 03/07/2019 01:26

He has deprived this woman of her liberty and the children of their mother in a very real way, although she is alive she cannot care for the children as she would want to.

I do not understand why the public can only request a review in these set cases. I wonder who one can write to, is there any kind of campaign. If this was a stranger in the street I think he would have got a much tougher sentence. I think this violence played out because she was a woman so that makes it a hate crime, at least in some parts of the UK.

Mishtry · 03/07/2019 02:26

3 years, wtf, the figures on rape cases being prosecuted, the increasing number of “bondage” deaths of women. Fuck it, may as well just make it all legal. He’s a piece of shit. I despair sometimes, When I was in my 20’s I genuinely believed this shit would get sorted.
Italian, i always say the same, men get away with doing stuff to women they wouldnt get away with doing to another bloke on the street.

MenuPlant · 03/07/2019 08:23

You can write to the attorney General about an unduly lenient sentence there's a link on their page if you Google it

MenuPlant · 03/07/2019 08:24

This feels ridiculously lenient

Agree should have been attempted murder

They chose a charge they think they can win which in the case of VAWG in particular seems to result in some ridiculous decisions.

twelvecolourfulbirds · 03/07/2019 10:35

How was that not attempted murder? He took her phones from her to prevent her calling for help.

I hope she sues the fucking arse off him with a personal injuries claim.

MrsBertBibby · 03/07/2019 10:43

The public's right to refer lenient sentencing doesn't apply in assault cases AFAIK.

Imnobody4 · 03/07/2019 10:55

I can't understand this at all. He deliberately took her phone away so she couldn't get help. This isn't just random loss of control but deliberate vicious sadism. This man shouldn't be let out for a very long time. I just feel so helpless. The review sentences doesn't seem to cover GBP.

misscockerspaniel · 03/07/2019 11:35

This is absolutely appalling. As pp mentioned, please contact the AG.

[email protected] and for referring unduly lenient sentences handed down by the Crown Court

[email protected]

misscockerspaniel · 03/07/2019 11:48

I have received an automated response from the office of the AG (using the ULS.Referrals email address) and it says that they have 28 days from the date of sentencing to refer a sentence to the Appeal Court. So if you think that this sentence is lenient, please do not delay in contacting them.

PerkingFaintly · 03/07/2019 11:49

Tried the "self-defence" line, too. Though doesn't seem that got very far.

Thug stamped on girlfriend like 'squashed beetle' and severed her spinal cord

Swamy was arrested but initially claimed he was acting in self defence.

MenuPlant · 03/07/2019 12:30

Sorry if I have given duff info about attorney General

IStillMissBlockbuster · 03/07/2019 13:19

This is horrifying! There is basically no protection at all for women in law.
