Violent offender Sevu Reece named in the All Blacks

I’ve been banging on about this guy since the season started. Last July he beat his girlfriend on the street. Got off conviction because it would ruin his rugby career. He’s now representing me.

I’m just disgusted. Fucking disgusted. Women are rugby players punching bags in NZ.

Rugby can fuck off.

Jesus, that’s awful

Is there any push back in NZ over this?

JessicaWakefieldSV · 02/07/2019 08:22

I doubt it. I commented on a recent All Black video about it, they insults I got. The victim herself was trashed on their channel, lies being told. Nobody gives a shit. NZ is a disgusting cesspit of misogyny and violence.

There is this article JessicaWakefieldSV, but note that Brad Lewis is only suggesting that Sevu Recce should not be included in the All Blacks this year, not that he should be permanently excluded.

JessicaWakefieldSV · 02/07/2019 08:42

Yes I saw that a while ago. The All Blacks removed that article link from their YouTube but left misogynistic slurs.

I really hate Kiwis today. This happens because ordinary kiwis do not care

I did a bit of a browse Jessica and found this article which does condemn the attitude of NZ sports organisations when it comes to women.

www.rnz.co.nz/news/sport/382641/nz-sport-codes-letting-women-down-bidwell

Also this article on what sounds like a very good programme for rugby players at all levels.

A provincial rugby boss is taking the brave step of revealing the very personal toll domestic violence has taken on his life. South Canterbury Rugby Football Union chief executive Craig Calder spoke for the first time about the abuse inflicted by his father at the launch of New Zealand Rugby's (NZR) Te Hurihanga programme in Wellington on Monday. The programme aimed to educate players across all levels on healthy relationships, domestic violence, child protection, sexual assault, consent and bystander responsibility, while building supportive environments to "positively shift attitudes" within our national game.

It's a bit depressing though to google 'domestic violence and sport and nz' and find articles going back years on how the behaviour of some sportsmen towards women has been excused ... because careers might be damaged etc.

Theoldwoman · 02/07/2019 09:47

I disagree with you, Kiwis do care!

TheInebriati · 02/07/2019 09:55

Individuals may care but its clear from the posts so far that there is an institutional problem.

JessicaWakefieldSV · 02/07/2019 09:56

South Canterbury Rugby Football Union chief executive Craig Calder

Unfortunately, Craig also made a statement shortly after that article about a man who threatened his family with a rifle, ran over a policeman injuring him badly and was killed threatening another, that said, ‘ his death is a sad loss for Canterbury rugby’ with no comment on his victims. I have no faith that that man has an appropriate and fair attitude to domestic violence, considering they signed Sevu, I think that’s a fair comment. I’m sorry he lived it, but so did my brother and my brother went on to abuse me and assault women ( was in prison for it ).

Some individuals do, overwhelmingly they do not, otherwise there wouldn’t be so many articles defending him, and so many fans doing so and abusing anyone who speaks out.

OP posts:
JessicaWakefieldSV · 02/07/2019 09:59

Look at all the fans calling him wonderful humble etc here. The All Blacks removed some of the criticisms of him, there were a handful:

OP posts:
JessicaWakefieldSV · 02/07/2019 10:34

Contrast this with the public outcry, especially from bearded woke bro’s in rugby like Scotty Stevenson, James Haskell etc who went on and on about Folau.... for words... and literally not a word about this

OP posts:
Gingerkittykat · 02/07/2019 14:34

Not at all surprising, see Ched Evans and others. When a man is good at sport this trumps everything else.

JessicaWakefieldSV · 02/07/2019 14:43

When a man is good at sport this trumps everything else.

Not quite, Israel Folau will never play rugby anywhere again.

I think it’s: When a man is good at sport, he can treat women any way he wants.

Coyoacan · 02/07/2019 15:12

An ex-friend of mine was an actor who beat up his girlfriend, his career ended because no actor would work with him again. That's the way it should be.

JessicaWakefieldSV · 02/07/2019 15:15

Coyoacan

Wow. Yes it should be like that! That’s my point. It’s why Folau isn’t playing really, no players or sponsors wanted to be associated with him. Shame they don’t have the same standards when it comes to abuse of women.... or drink driving... or taking cocaine while playing... or endorsing apartheid in sport.... strange it’s just LGBT that get their total support.

JessicaWakefieldSV · 03/07/2019 09:28

Thank you to the six people who supported this post. You might consider contacting sponsors, as I have.

I am disappointed that this didn’t gain more comments considering this is the number 1 rugby team in the world, representing the country with the highest rate of domestic violence. Maybe if it was a trans issue it might have got more support.

littlbrowndog · 03/07/2019 10:05

I support you Jessica.

I have had this conversation with a kiwi I know who thinks he is a liberal lefty.
His silence was very obvious

littlbrowndog · 03/07/2019 10:07

And I was also talking about it with someone I know who worked in New Zealand for a time about domestic violence there

He was astounded that what I was saying was possibly true.
New Zealand is so welcoming and friendly he said

Thank you, I always love your contributions on this board.

I feel genuinely upset about it. These are my people, my country, and nobody seems to care that much.

NZ has a dark dark underbelly, that’s why the terrorist didn’t surprise me. We just aren’t honest about who we are at all. I think a lot of it is that he’s Polynesian and people don’t want to appear racist. Well I’m Polynesian too, and we have a big problem with violence and misogyny.

JessicaWakefieldSV · 03/07/2019 10:53

Chris Rattue has written but you have to pay to get it. I emailed him a thank you using the email at the top of the article. I think it would be great if others also thanked him.

Yes Jessica. I like what you say. It comes from the heart 💓
Violence against women and children it seems like we are bottom of heap.

I love all blacks and so pissed that he wasn’t thrown out of team at once.

They are I think the word is apologist

He felt so sure that he wouldn’t get the boot that he beat up his girlfriend in public

JessicaWakefieldSV · 03/07/2019 12:10

I love all blacks and so pissed that he wasn’t thrown out of team at once.

He actually wasn’t in the team before and looked never to play. He was signed to Connacht in Ireland, looking for big bucks overseas. Since the assault, it was obvious nobody would take him but NZ. He’s also only been in NZ a few years, a conviction would have meant deportation. He’s actually now better off than before the assault- in public so makes you wonder what happens behind closed doors.

I’d like to point out that no NZ refuge or violence association has said a single thing. That’s the problem with NZ charities, they all want a piece of the All Blacks too

OP posts:
NotBadConsidering · 03/07/2019 12:27

It’s such bullshit. The argument is he should be given a second chance. Why? They’ve basically made the decision that his try-scoring ability outweighs the history of him dragging his girlfriend to the ground in public. It’s not like New Zealand doesn’t have other good players the All Blacks could select. You know, good wingers who don’t beat their girlfriends Hmm

JessicaWakefieldSV · 03/07/2019 12:49

NotBadConsidering

I always find the ‘second chance’ line particularly infuriating. I understand the whole concept of, you’ve done your time now people should let you move on. But this guy escaped conviction entirely because he plays rugby, and he only missed one game. To be catapulted into the All Blacks is disgraceful. Again, Israel Folau compared to this is really enraging. I note none of the rugby men, who also happen to have beards!, who came out attacking Folau, have said anything about this.

It’s the message it sends, along with coach comments like, ‘he’s a great human’, that is concerning.

Watch everyone’s darling Jacinda go and watch them and have a beer in the changing rooms with a violent offender. And watch the left stay silent over it. Traitors.

I am always astounded (well not really, my expectations are never met) that women who achieve high office never stand up for other women who are victims of DV - its as if they would lose their street cred. It is nearly as if there are certain topics that women are allowed to stand for (equal pay, childcare (so they can quickly get back to work and keep consuming) education of women, em, what else????

And in all other topics, women who achieve must STFU and stay with the establishment. Honestly, I often wonder if those poor suffragettes are turning in their graves.

Oh and OP, I'm 100% on you with the comparison between this guy (and all the other violent, women hating male athletes in every other sport) and Israel Folau. AS you note, women and children last.
