Oh BBC.

At it again.

A health campaign for people with vaginas.

This is for anyone with a vagina.

"One in four people don't go to their smear tests".

That's where you might mention that, statistically, two in four people DON'T HAVE A FUCKING CERVIX YOU CLOWNS.

Here's their info about prostate cancer from 2 weeks ago.

Compare and contrast.

twitter.com/BBCNews/status/1138035336859328512

"Researchers are investigating if men could benefit from a one-off scan to check their risk of prostate cancer".

Prostate cancer screening scan hope

"Hundreds of UK men are trying out a new screening test for prostate cancer to see if it should eventually be offered routinely on the NHS".

"About three in four men with a raised PSA level will not have cancer and the test can also miss more than one in 10 cancers".

Men with a raised PSA may need more checks, such as a biopsy. This involves taking small samples of tissue from the prostate gland, using a needle, so that they can be examined under the microscope".

"The experts from University College London who are running the screening trial hope MRI will detect serious cancers earlier while reassuring the majority of men that they don't have cancer".

Men found to have possible signs of cancer on the scan would be sent for more tests".

Wow, the comparison couldn't be any more blatant.

Gingerkittykat · 28/06/2019 23:19

NHS Scotland has a good balance, it acknowledges it is a woman's issue but has a link for trans and non binary people.

Don't alienate the majority of people you are trying to reach to appease a tiny minority.

Interestingly, it says trans people changing their CHI number to opposite gender will receive updates for that new gender. So a F2M will receive no reminders and a MTF will get them.

The BBC can fuck right off, and take the Guardian with them

Popchyk · 28/06/2019 23:30

Demonstrates how dangerous this stuff is. People die because of this bullshit.

Bandying about statistics about one in four people not going for a smear test.

Do you mean women?

Or all people (including all men)?

Do 1 in 4 women not attend smear tests, or is it actually 1 in 2 women? Is it 10 million women or 20 million women? Cos that's a huge difference.

The BBC, of course, does not clarify what the actual fuck they mean.

Amen.

This x 20

Threesoups · 28/06/2019 23:56

Yup.

I click on this forum to provide me a dose of reality from day to day, and consistently find threads which completly shock me, into believing the world has gone absolutely mad.
This is yet another one.
Have the BBC and supposedly MSM gone completely mad?

KitchenDancefloor · 29/06/2019 00:04

As soon as I saw that title on the BBC I thought 'is this me being over sensitive?'

Which is exactly why I clicked on to MN. I know this post would be here.

People with vaginas?
Persons avec vulvas?
Those identifying as having a cervix on their person?
Humans who have Fallopian tubes inside their anatomy?
Homo sapiens containing a uterus?

Or 'women'?

So much easier.

babysharkah · 29/06/2019 00:08

This makes me really. Fucking. Angry.

I've had a drink so can't be more eloquent but I'll come back to it tomorrow.

checkmaid · 29/06/2019 00:39

Ffs - this makes me so cross that I tweeted them back and spelled vagina wrong Blush

EweSurname · 29/06/2019 00:55

Weirdly, they’ve just tweeted this

BBC News (UK)
@BBCNews
Lesbian women cervical screening myth is 'dangerous'

IAmAlwaysLikeThis · 29/06/2019 00:58

So they're trying to persuade more women to go for their smear test, while also alienating the very demographic they're trying to reach, by appeasing the tiny percentage of people who would be offended by this.

Cool.

Makes sense.

DancelikeEmmaGoldman · 29/06/2019 01:14

Just for you BBC woke bros. Have a cupcake.

This is why I love Mumsnet [big hearty shaped emoji]

Popchyk · 29/06/2019 11:40

Janice Turner has tweeted about it.

“Anyone with a vagina”. Please can the BBC show us where they’ve used “anyone with a prostate” in male cancer campaigns. This is dehumanising garbage insults half your licence fee payers.

twitter.com/VictoriaPeckham/status/1144738598945787905

And David Aaronovitch the journalist has joined the thread. Noting that "inclusive language" only ever applies to women's health and not to men's. And asking a bloke to consider why that actually might be.

Aaronovitch says "It’s because the idea of a biological woman is now somehow controversial while that of a biological man is not".

Aaronovitch gets it.

TRAs: Feminists are reducing people their genitalia!

Also TRAs: 'People with vaginas'.

ZuttZeVootEeeVro · 29/06/2019 13:27

People with vaginas

I'm sure I have an old one in the back of a cupboard somewhere.

I hate the lie that it's it be inclusive of non binary and TM. It's really to separate female biology from women.

Why aren't male transpeople excluded when talking about men's health?

Yabbers · 29/06/2019 13:48

People die because of this bullshit.

I’d be interested to see your source and statistics for this.

Yabbers · 29/06/2019 13:50

The headline is an interesting way to grab the attention of those who need smear tests and those who may have loved ones who need smear tests. “This is for all people” or “this is for men and women” wouldn’t be quite so catchy.

Can”t get worked up about it myself. Is it going to stop people having smear tests? Doubt it.

LizzieSiddal · 29/06/2019 13:50

I must add that I heard this on Radio 2 and 4 news this morning and the term Women was used thoughtour both reports. I wonder why the internet report isn’t the same?

summerofresistance · 29/06/2019 13:51

Anyone with a vagina includes young girls also.

It's a nonsense.
