I'm on holiday, so don't get much access to the net. Can anyone tell me how the debate went?

It has a whole section on No Outsiders, which is being used by the school.

This claim that Moffat is merely teaching the Equality Act is completely disingenuous in my view. Judging from the materials and reading list, there is hardly any (or no) teaching about sex as a protected characteristic, which would of necessity have to go into the women's rights aspect and then beautifully tie in with marital status and pregnancy & motherhood as two protected characteristics that help to address sexism. There's also barely anything about age either. And so on...

From what I've seen it's sexual orientation, gender and gender identity.

Nothing wrong with seeking to teach the kids about LGBT people and the issues they might face, but if you're going to sell this as state-mandated teaching of national equality laws, you don't get to a) misrepresent them and b) put such a heavy focus on a select few characteristics while all but ignoring the others.

Well plenty of Muslim in the area have good English, of course uncle probably needs to approve it

oopsie, your prejudice is showing

if you're going to sell this as state-mandated teaching of national equality laws

which isn't state mandated by the way. There's not requirement as far as I know that schools teach children about the eqaulity act. I'm a bit baffled as to why it's become a thing. schools have to comply with the act yes, but not teach it.

what other acts do we feel we must teach children? Police and Criminal Evidence Act? The Planning Act 2008?

I do wonder if, actually a big part of the problem here is Moffat. we know he was sacked from a previous school for using teaching materials the governors weren't happy with, and he was teaching at Parkfield. Is the issue that on this occasion he was able to get the school leadership team to buy into his folly?

I quoted the man who is mediating, local MPs but you aren't open to considering anything other than the baying mob outside the school led by someone's uncle who decided he didn't like it.

If you read my posts, dumpling, you'll see that I have quoted the local MP, who has talked to the parents. I also said that there was a problem with some people who are clearly homophobic using this issue as an excuse to spread hatred. I have not, at any time, said that I agree with the 'baying mob'.

So nothing being taught about women's rights, plenty on fucking gender...

Now why doesn't surprise me?

I started quoting CharlieParley's excellent post but didn't know when to stop. I agree with every word.

I think you'll find most regular posters know transgender people, thedevondumpling. Weird thing to say. That's not the same as examining the pros and cons of the primary school curriculum.
