Some American TRA believes Caroline to be guilty of WRONG THINK and decrees that she be boycotted.

Also targeted by the ever delightful Arthur Chu, who helpfully retweets all of his own tweets so no one misses out on his absolutely riveting thoughts on all subjects

Only a matter of time, I suppose. Women must NEVER be allowed to talk about their own bodies. Dangerous Terfism, that.

What’s all the stuff about getting people arrested?

womenspeakout · 25/06/2019 14:28

womespeakout I am glad to hear that! At the end of the day, what we do is impacted by what our bodies are. My female body means that I lose several days every month to severe PMS, where my mood and my work suffers considerably. Over my life, it will add up to about 9 years. It doesn’t matter how I identify- I can’t change that. That doesn’t mean that I define myself by my biology, but I live in a world where the default is a male body who does not have monthly PMS that affects their ability to work. That means that my being female puts me at a disadvantage. Same as the default white, abled, heterosexual impacts on those who are poc, LGB or have a disability. Not sure why it’s so hard to fathom for these idiots, especially since it’s only a century since women were given any voting rights. Would be a bit odd if a massive historical problem suddenly vanished wouldn’t it?

Yes, exactly.

I have severe endometriosis, every month I have a certain amount of days where I cannot leave the house, literally, I can't go out as I'm in too much pain and my flow is far too heavy. Like you say, those days will add up.

I can't believe I ever felt differently, now I know I had been brainwashed/gaslit into believing what I was told and repeating the basic quotes. With only a small amount of critical thinking I saw it for all the stupidity it is.

Listening to the author made me realise how different we are and saying your something doesn't make it true, and doesn't mean you suffer in the way every other woman has suffered from the bias that the world has towards men being the dominant sex.

InionEile · 25/06/2019 14:32

Not surprised. Caroline is oh-so-second wave, dontcha know. The way she focuses on the social reality of inhabiting a biologically female body is very 1998. It’s almost as if she thinks there are two sexes and that one is subjugated by the other due to reproductive labour or something. It’s literal violence!!

I’m amazed the TRAs didn’t come for her sooner....

FloralBunting · 25/06/2019 14:40

EweSurname, I wouldn't like to comment. Winks or wanks probably have the same linguistic effect in the context of my remark which, although a slightly humourous dig, I wouldn't be at all shocked to learn was true...

Pota2 · 25/06/2019 14:40

I used to be confused why the TRAs were targeting gender critical women rather than, y’know, the men who beat up or harass and abuse trans people. It’s all trf this and trf that. Most GC women I know are unfailingly polite and respectful of trans people and none of them pose any sort of threat to them. But then it struck me- they think what we are doing is worse than violence because we are refusing to deny reality. And what they want is a world where reality no longer exists, which is why they want to erase references to biological sex. It wouldn’t matter to them if there was zero crime or discrimination against trans people- it would not be enough. They won’t be happy until it’s illegal to mention biology.

GrinitchSpinach · 25/06/2019 14:43

So pleased I just bought Invisible Women this week. Will pass it on to DH after I finish reading it.

Datun · 25/06/2019 14:46

They won’t be happy until it’s illegal to mention biology.

Correct.

I'll never forget Munro Bergdorf saying that women were allowed to march in the women's march, as long as they didn't mention their reproductive biology.

Manderleyagain · 25/06/2019 14:48

Arthur states that he hasn't read Invisible Women.

Is the letter from CUSU and the tweet about misogynist men the only evidence they are showing of her transphobia? Kelly Ellis's tweets are pretty defamatory with their vague insinuation.

AudacityOfHope · 25/06/2019 14:53

See, this is what I'm really curious about. I was reading Sue Black's book about death, and she talks about how they identify the sex of decomposed dead people by, for example, femur length, etc.

How, in the face of actual facts such as this, do TRAs get around it? Do they never look in the mirror and just start screaming at how they've basically signed up to spend their entire lives lying to themselves and everyone around them? It's like an episode of Black Mirror or something.

Same with CCP's Invisible Women. I too am amazed she's gone under the TRA radar for so long, but I'd be amazed if she gave a single fuck.

Oncewasblueandyellowtwo · 25/06/2019 15:04

I'm crying, I'm crying, why didn't I do my pelvic floor exercises! Grin
Now off to get a copy of of Caroline's book on amazon. This thread is giving me lots of good ideas today.

FloralBunting · 25/06/2019 15:09

Well, that is rather the beauty of being an actually educated, thinking, reasoning woman with a fuckton of research behind you which enables you speak with authority.

We are all aware why they've gone after her now? It's because her work was actually referenced in the Scottish statement about stopping the relentless ploughing ahead with law changes with adequate impact assessments. We know what the cult members are like. They need to lash out vindictively. Criado Perez was mentioned by name. Natural target for them.

FloralBunting · 25/06/2019 15:10

*with = without.

Pota2 · 25/06/2019 15:15

Luckily I don’t think she’s the type to cave to a load of entitled bullies. And her book sales speak for themselves. She’s great.

They also hate her because she is a ‘white feminist’. The people who peddle this accusation are nearly without fail white themselves and are shamelessly using an oppressed group to try to silence those they disagree with.

BernardBlacksWineIcelolly · 25/06/2019 15:18

I did think Uh Oh when she was name checked by Shirley Anne Somerville

RosaWaiting · 25/06/2019 15:20

re Twitter

I love Twitter! It's such a shame about all the crazy.

AncientLights · 25/06/2019 15:25

Oh no! Caroline rejects the use of 'cis': shocking. Off to the gulag with her.

FloralBunting · 25/06/2019 15:27

Bernard, well quite. Being an intelligent outspoken woman is one thing. Being an influential woman can never be permitted unless under strict controls.

JustAnotherWoman · 25/06/2019 15:54

I've seen a few of Arthur Chu's pompous hateful tweets and wondered who he was and bewildered by his self description of comedian. One of the tweets in that twitter storm references this article which is an interesting read [https://hyperallergic.com/501442/who-is-arthur-chu-documentary-jeopardy/]
I'm still mystified why he has so many followers Confused

never come across Kelly before, was

JustAnotherWoman · 25/06/2019 15:59

Posted too soon

Re Kelly, I don't know who she is either, has a blue tick but bio doesn't really help. Does anyone know who she is?

She's awfully invested in the trans rhetoric, I started reporting her hateful tweets calling women 't' but there were sooo many

AudacityOfHope · 25/06/2019 15:59

I'm pretty sure Nicola Sturgeon tweeted about the book when she was reading it one weekend. Amazing what CCP has achieved, a real direct link from her work to women's safety.

❤️❤️ for CCP

Victoriapestis01 · 25/06/2019 16:05

But doesn’t CCR go along with the rhetoric and pretend TWAW, despite all her focus on biology? I didnt buy her book because of that- have I misjudged her?

I notice she seems angry to be called a terf- her very denials seem to me to suggest she does think feminism should centre....men.

Victoriapestis01 · 25/06/2019 16:05

Sorry CCP I mean!

BernardBlacksWineIcelolly · 25/06/2019 16:07

She just doesn’t major on trans stuff

But the introduction to Invisible Women makes it quite clear that she understands that women are oppressed on the basis of their biology

NoSquirrels · 25/06/2019 16:09

We are all aware why they've gone after her now? It's because her work was actually referenced in the Scottish statement about stopping the relentless ploughing ahead with law changes with adequate impact assessments.

As lovely Helen Mermaids has commented on Kelly’s thread.

I notice she seems angry to be called a terf- her very denials seem to me to suggest she does think feminism should centre....men

That’s a bit of a leap, isn’t it?

BlingLoving · 25/06/2019 16:22

I have no idea what CCPs stance on trans women is. But her book is not about trans women. It's about the biological reality that men and women are different and that data and science don't take this into account impacting female bodies in all kinds of scenarios from medicine, to work, to the very concept of meritocracy. She points out, repeatedly, the way in which male bodies and experience are used as the default. So the uniforms worn by scientists in Antarctica to technologies designed to reduce the use of fossil fuels in rural african communities.
