Hi, I just signed up to post this...I don't know if Michele is on here or if anyone here knows her, but I think she could do with a bit of support right now. TRAs are trying to get her sacked from her editorship of a well respected journal, Disability and Society. There is a petition circulating, signed by hundreds of academics and disability rights activists, mostly from US and Canada, but a few from the UK too. All day members of the journal's editorial board have been resigning their positions ie they are supporting the petition and demanding Michele's removal on the grounds of transphobia. it's a pile-on of the worst kind.
I am not on Twitter and don't know how else to contact Michele to offer support. She is not appearing on Northumbria University's website, so I don't know how to contact her...if anyone knows her, please do reach out to her...she is being treated shockingly. I'm really upset about it.

Just heard that the publishers are not sacking Michele Moore!
This is from the email to the editorial board:
" Having seen both the petition and online discussion circulating on Disability and Society, we are putting in place a full review of the Journal’s editorial policies and processes. This is to ensure such processes are positive, inclusive and transparent at all points of the publication process, providing the Journal’s Editorial Executive Board with a robust framework to work within.
Such support will also be for the Journal’s Editor-in-Chief, Michele Moore, whom we will not be asking to step down. "

Thank goodness commmon sense and fairness prevailed -and it just shows how important it is to push back when these injustices occur.

Thank goodness for that.

Wonderful news!

Thank god. Rather than individual women putting everything on the line to try to defend people, we need more bodies and institutions taking a zero tolerance approach to the ludicrous tantrums thrown by these idiots. Same for white male senior leaders in universities because we all know that these cowards don’t dare attack men who disagree with them- it’s only women. I am so relieved and well done to the journal of Disability and Society. Hopefully lots of people with an ounce of common sense will volunteer to replace the attention-seekers who resigned.

JessicaWakefieldSV · 24/06/2019 21:54

That is great news.

JackyHolyoake · 24/06/2019 22:01

Wonderful news!

Thankfully, Ms Moore's exemplary professional reputation exceeds that of those who attempted, without any foundation whatsoever, to diminish it.

Well done!

Yes! I hope more insitutions and companies can take this example and not cave into TRA cry-bullying. So relieved for Michelle.

Ii to have had a repsonse fot T&F. I added a second issue to my email, warning them to check the Equality docs carefully

The Equalities Act 2010 has sex as a protected characteristic, this is quietly being eroded, replaced by 'gender', this in turn opens the door for single sex spaces to be deemed illegal or, again 'transphobic'. Could you also please check your own Equalities documents and ensure that you too have not accidentally followed this trend, have not replaced sex' or added 'gender' as an equal term? If you have you should be aware that this is NOT in line with the EA2010 and could lead you to accidentally discriminate against people of either sex, leaving yourselves open to legal action. Given the link between Vercida and Stonewall the chances are very high that you are indeed incorrectly applying the EA2010

My email response included the one posted above and a sentence thanking me for bringing the issues with Equality terminology to their attention!

CuriousaboutSamphire · 25/06/2019 11:54

And yes, hi jacky nice to read you again Smile

Copied from a fb group:

CALL TO ACTION. A final push to support Michele Moore!

Michele says: “There will be the most dreadful backlash for a while so any ongoing support will be a great help too now, to stop the smear campaigns and try to limit damage.”

Email along the lines of ‘thanks for standing by Michele Moore and upholding….. [add what you will]’. Send to: [email protected] AND [email protected]
