He was unhappy at having to pay more for his beer because he was male.

Oh my gosh. Look at that twat.

SchooledUp · 18/06/2019 19:23

He needs to go and look at the price of women's razors compared to men's and then cry me a river.

NailsNeedDoing · 18/06/2019 19:24

Looks like he had a fair point. Good on him.

Hellbentwellwent · 18/06/2019 19:25

Wauw.... talk about male privilege, don’t get me wrong it’s stupid not to sell the beer to men as well, the message is still there, but that beardy dude bro spectacularly missed the point didn’t he?

womanaf · 18/06/2019 19:26

Gosh. A man lied about his gender to access something intended for women.

That would never happen.

(This actually is a fascinating case because I applaud what Brewdog were trying to do, but I can’t imagine how they thought they’d get away with it.)

Doyoumind · 18/06/2019 19:27

I don't think they should have been selling cheaper beer for women.

LarryGreysonsDoor · 18/06/2019 19:27

Brewdog were being a bit twatty about it even though I appreciate the point.
I guess the difference between this and razors etc is that nothing is stopping women buying men’s razors.

OP posts:
Bluestitch · 18/06/2019 19:28

Considering that the beer was cheap to anyone who 'identified' as female it was a load of nonsense anyway, especially as they served him the drink as soon as he said those magic words.

ErrolTheDragon · 18/06/2019 19:28

Less 'satirical campaign', more farce.

Doyoumind · 18/06/2019 19:30

Yes. They didn't have a leg to stand on refusing to sell him the beer. Also, it was a cynical marketing ploy rather than genuine support for women so automatically gets a thumbs down in my books.

boatyardblues · 18/06/2019 19:31

I always buy men’s razors. The women’s ones are crap, as well a pink. 🙄

calpop · 18/06/2019 19:31

Has he had his beard trimmed of hair cut in a hairdressers rather than a barbers recently? Why do I pay 5x as much for a haircut as a man I wonder?

buy yeah, the beer thing was never going to fly brewdog (despite all those years of women getting into clubs for free so there'd be plenty of fodder for the paying customers).

LikeARedBalloon · 18/06/2019 19:32

Brewdog were also sued after sacking an employer who had lost his sight. £120000 they paid out for that!
Sounds like they're a crap company all round!

SchooledUp · 18/06/2019 19:32

True, women can buy men's razors but it's one of the many ways, including the pay gap, that we're 'penalised' for being women yet one of the few times it works the other way round, to make that very point, a man complains.

yetanotherusernameAgain · 18/06/2019 19:32

He had a point though - it was discriminatory.

Not sure he was justified in taking it to the small claims court to ask for damages and a public apology though. He was awarded £1,000. Don't know if he got a public apology.

LikeARedBalloon · 18/06/2019 19:32

12000 not 120000!

OvaHere · 18/06/2019 19:35

It's in the Mail too

www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-7153225/Software-engineer-27-successfully-sues-sex-discrimination-refused-beer.html

There's a lot to unpack here. On one hand it does seem discriminatory to refuse any customer a lower cost item especially something like a beverage. I understand what Brewdog were trying to do but I have very little patience for corporate virtue signalling these days more so if they 'pinkify' it.

Where does that leave other groups that sometimes receive discounts though? Pensioners, people with disabilities, under 18s, students etc...Can we identify into those groups too?

We might start to see a lot of these legal cases popping up. I recall it was pointed out regarding Labours AWS that men would have a good discrimination case if other men (who identified as women) were allowed to stand and not them.

Ultimately the take away from this should be a warning for commercial companies trying to be overly virtuous.

Doyoumind · 18/06/2019 19:35

They clearly let this go to court as the publicity wouldn't do them any harm. He got £1000 and they got publicity worth a lot more.

LarryGreysonsDoor · 18/06/2019 20:37

The public is worth more than £1k which is nothing to them.

OP posts:
Erythronium · 18/06/2019 20:45

Um, "identify as a woman". I bet those special women Brewdog is also targeting don't suffer the gender pay gap.

Still, Brewdog should have done a sarcastic apology to him instead of going to court. Winning is just going to make this male chauvinist feel smug.

thirdfiddle · 18/06/2019 21:16

Well that nicely demonstrates the problem with using identity as a classifier.

S1naidSucks · 18/06/2019 21:28

Yeah. And such a tiny thing. Just imagine if there were things of value at stake. Hmm

auldcraw · 18/06/2019 21:41

Yes man identifies as woman to save £1 on beer! What else can possibly go wrong?

TheRedBarrows · 18/06/2019 21:42

Brewdog are a totally twatty and hypocritical company.

They introduced a stupid pink beer as a marketing ploy and cooked up a stupid tale about it being ironic and in support of raising awareness about the pay gap.

They are the most litigious company against other small breweries, I know if a local one that was fucked over by them.

They have also deliberately courted legal cases against them with their oh so daring names and packaging. The court cases affirm their faux rebel / punk brand.

They would have been absolutely aware that someone would take them to court for sex based pricing, Their brand lawyers would have pointed it out immediately. They are probably disappointed it took so long. LOL, they probably even paid the guy to do it.

Despicable company, and their beer has a horrible harsh edge to it.

DpWm · 18/06/2019 21:53

I felt forced to lie about my sex in order to receive the product at the lower price and told the bartender that I identified as female. The bartender then served me the drink
But... But.. this sort of thing never happens!
